Our first cruise- should we switch from 4 to 7 western?

My husband and I planned to take our first cruise next March- a 4 day Disney cruise.

We were talking about where to stay when we get back- on site, off site etc., car rentals and then we thought how much of a difference would it be to do the 7 day cruise? We would be interested in the Western Carib cruise. We both have never been to any of those ports and would really like to go.

Should we make the change from the four day cruise to the seven day cruise?
We would be giving up a Navigators Verandah and be a category 8 for an additional 1300.

For those who have cruised before, what would you do?

We want to make up our minds soon to ensure the lower rates.

We did a land/ sea the 1st time to see if we would enjoy cruising, well here we are on #4 so I guess that we do!!!

If I had to do that trip over, I would do a 7 night instead. We also did our 2nd cruise as a 3 night. And in hindsight, I wish we had budgeted better and done a 7.

So finally, we did the 7. LOVED IT!!! Planning another in 6/2006.

If you think you'll like cruising and you can afford it. Go for the 7 night.

Not much I can add, except we were also trying to decide if we would like crusing. After much thought and discussions with friends who had gone we decided on the 7 day.

We wanted a chance to enjoy everything and not feel rushed. We are seasoned boaters, and once had a Lake Michigan type boat. Once I got my husband over the thought he would be sea sick (remember, Lake Michigan boater...never saw him get sick on our 210 in rough seas) we booked the cruise. We are on the Western in March of 2006, we sail on the 25th. Hope you will join us.

No Question....7 night!

4 nights isn't even enough time to see the entire ship and get to experience everything on board, not to mention the ports which are a blast!

I wouldn't even consider anything less than a 7 night. Think of it this way, the first day is spent boarding, unpacking, signing up for things... the last day you disembark right after breakfast, and the last night you spend a few hours packing, buying photos, getting last minute gifts, tipping special CMs personally, so that evening is shot. So, basically you have 2.75 days to enjoy that immense ship/port/CC etc. Definitely NOT enough time.

My husband and I are seasoned Lake Ontario and St Lawrence River boaters. So, with the recommended meds as back up I really think we should do okay. I just could not imagine having a room without any kind of window.

We have never been out of the country except for Canada, Italy and I lived in central mexico for a semester (near mexico city) and never made it to the east coast there. I have heard such great things about Cozumel and this would be a great way to get there.

We planned to try a Boardwalk resort this time, but that could be as much as 300.00 a night, which is almost the difference between the two cruises.

we did a 3 night in 2001 to see if we liked it, and have done 5 DCL cruises, one RCCL cruise, and have 2 NCL cruises booked.

I would go with the 7 night--you really don't miss that much time from work, especially since it sounds as though you were going to spend some time at WDW. It is so relaxing.

absolutely switch. You will not regret doing the 7 nighter.

Book the 7 night - book it now and don't even think twice!!!

I have not done the Western itinerary, but have been on the Eastern and a few 4-nights. I would much rather go for the 7 nighter!!!

Have fun!

We have #'s 5 and 6 booked with DCL (7 night Western and 10 night x-mas 06) My only problem is that after our 10 dayer I might think the 7 is too short.... :rotfl2:

We have cruised several times on other lines and much prefer the 7 day so you have time to get the know the ship and then enjoy it. When we have done the shorter cruises it just seems like by the time you get to know everything you are done! When booking our Disney Cruise for March 2006 we talked about maybe doing the 4 day to save money.... when comparing it was a much better value to do the 7 day! More money but much less avg per day!

:earsgirl:

It sounds like we just might make the switch. I will make sure we can make up our minds asap to ensure we get the lowest rate.

and who knows... if we are given an upgrade, that would be great. if not, that is okay too. :)

SO EXCITED! :cool1:

I just got an email from our travel agent from mouseearvacations.com and it was only 900 more for a verandah! She said her company was offering a group rate for the trip!

So glad we thought about this, she said there were hardly any rooms left. :cool1:

I've done 7 cruises.......5 of them were 7 days (only one on Disney).....one was a 10 day, and one was a 14 day. I don't think I could handle just a 3 or 4 day cruise, you just get settled in and it's time to leave.
I would recommend the longest cruise you can afford.

But what if you want to go to the parks too? Never cruised before, don't really think DH is going to be that excited about it, so thinking the 4 day might be the best for now. Would that be a horrible mistake?

My husband and I have been to the park a couple of times and wont really mind missing out to go to all of the ports.

As of this morning, its official, we are booked for a cat 6! Woo hoo!

If Feburary here yet? :)

Do the 7 night. Did the 4 night the first. We loved it but it wasn't enough. We're doing the 7 May 7th and planning the next.
As far as the room goes, you are rarelly in the room. I would rather go for the 7 nights with the cheaper room than the 4 night. I promise you won't be sorry.
:wave2:

Okay, so what would be better? 4 nights in a really nice room, say cat4 or above or 7 nights in a cat 9 or below?

Definitely 7 nights in which ever room you could get!!! :) We have stayed in an 8 & a 10 & either one was great for us.
