Day 4, August 31st – Grand Cayman

It was beautiful to see the water from our porthole. I have always wondered how doctored ads were for the Bahamas and Islands to show their water that blue and sand that white. But I saw it with my own eyes now and it is truly that beautiful. We had an excursion at 12:45pm so we slept a bit late and then headed to Lumiere’s for breakfast before headed down to tender in to Grand Cayman and look around. Tendering was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Once on land, we hit the shops. Of course we had to stop at the Harley shop and pick up a shirt or two! We also made a stop at Tortuga Bakery to sample all of the rum cakes and continued toshop in the MANY stores in the general area. We decided to do lunch at the Hard Rock Café. Afterwards we went to meet for our excursion at the dock.

We booked the Aquaboat Tour and Snorkel. We had Dennis and Nick for our guides. Both of which were very nice and helpful. We were put in two-person boats and given operating and safety rules before we took off. This was fun but unfortunately we got a bum boat. It kept stalling. At the stop for snorkeling at Smith’s Cove our guided tried emptying water out of ???something??? to fix it but on the way to the Callie shipwreck it still was not working right. It even died by thetime we were trying to go back to the dock and one of the guides had to pull us the rest of the way! They were very nice and apologetic about it. It was a fun excursion and the snorkeling around the cove and shipwreck was great but would have been more fun if our boat could go a bit faster.

After, we headed back to the ship. Tonight’s show was Hercules The Muse-ical. I loved this show! Pain and Panic really make the show – they were great! After the show we hit Shutters to check out all of of pics to date and purchased the 6x8 pic package and our 8x10 formal pic - $105!!! YIKES!!! Dinner was back in Animator’s. Before and after dinner we walked around deck 4 a bit and lounged in the chairs. Being in the sun and water all day wore us out and we decided to turn in. Afterall, we had Cozumel and Tulum Ruins in the morning early.

Day 5, September 1st – Cozumel

We had put an order for room service the night before and had it delivered early for breakfast including some fruit and chicken fingers to take along on our excursion to Tulum Ruins. After hearing about the ferry ride to Playa del Carmen on the boards and then receiving a stateroom message about the ride frequently causing nausea, Adam and I decided to take motion sickness pills before going even though neither of us ever get motion sickness. We went to meet for our excursion in the Buena Vista theater where they again strongly recommended motion sickness meds. This was making me nervous. After boarding the ferry and being on for a bit we started to see the workers handing out little baggies. The ride did not bother either of us at all although the boat was certainly rocking.

After getting to Playa del Carmen we followed the guide to a parking lot where the busses would take us to Tulum. On the way to the lot, people whistled ahead to shop owners and people selling merchandise on the route that we were coming and they came at you trying to sell hats and other things constantly which was annoying. Once at the lot we boarded our bus and met our guide Saul who was part Mayan decent as well as European. On the ride to Tulum, Saul gave us history of the area and people as well as facts. Once we arrived at Tulum we boarded a tram to the actual ruin site. Saul showed us some of the ruins and told the stories while a woman photographed our groups individually in front of one of the buildings to be purchased on the way back. The ruins were gorgeous. We were able to walk around and explore on our own or enjoy the beach there. Adam and I walked all around and took tons of pics. There were iguanas running around all over there to which Saul told us that they are a tasty dish there tasting a bit like chicken and good on tacos! LOL. It was very HOT there and I say this as someone who lives in Florida –IT WAS HOT, EXTREMELY HOT!!!!! We were told to meet back at the busses around 3pmwhere we found a Subway lunch waiting for us. On the ride back to the ferry we both snoozed as well as on most of the ferry ride back- I think it was the motion meds even though we didn’t take more on the ride back! We did purchase our pictures from the ruins on the ferry when we first got on. There were more sales people on board trying to sell jewelry to you in your seats seeming quite annoyed at every “no”. But the ruins were worth all of the annoying salesmen, heat, and travel to get there.

When we got back to Cozumel, we went back onto the ship to get cleaned up and showered after the HOT ruins. We went back out into Cozumel to do some shopping and look at the ship at night all lit up (It’s beautiful by the way!) before reboarding. Dinner tonight was in Parrot Cay with a Pirate Theme including flags and a limbo! The show was movie PremEAR choice between Princess Diaries 2 and then a late show of The Village. After dinner we headed to the Pirate Deck Party, which was real cute. And then ran to make the showing of The Village. Very good movie. Another long day ends…..

I agree, seeing the ship at night is a beautiful sight!
