Our DVC 25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration

:)How lovely! Thank you for sharing your beautiful day and belated congratulations. My DH and I will celebrate a significant anniversary in 5 yrs. and I am thinking it will be at WDW. Only thing, it is in August and with the heat at that time I just don't know how that would work. Again, thanks for sharing!

Absolutely gorgeous! Our 25th anniversary is one year from tomorrow- and we plan to celebrate one year after that in Hawaii (that DVC isn't going to be open in August 2011 when we want to go! :sad1:). Anyway, you have certainly given me lots of ideas!!!! Thank you!!:goodvibes

What wonderful memory to have, to celebrate a 1st, a 25th and a 50th anniversary. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.

This gives me something to think about for our 40th.

Can i just ask whether Absolute Limousines provided you with a good service? I am currently looking in to transportation options and need a little help!!

I enjoyed reading about your special day. Thanks for sharing the amazing pictures. The Boardwalk and the Christmas decorations made the perfect backdrop for your event.

What beautiful memories, and so nice that you could share it with your close family members. Family is what it is all about.

We have witnessed a number of weddings held at the pavillion betweeen the Boardwalk and EPCOT over the years, more in the fall months than the summer.

It makes me wish we were married in December like my parents were rather than August, in New Orleans, almost 32 years ago.

What were we thinking?

Yes, we were very happy with all of our vendors. The limo made a huge difference in the way our day progressed. There was no worry over keeping the party together while driving or searching for the church. There was just sitting back and enjoying the day with our family. Absolute was prompt and they also stayed an extra two hours when we went over on the time for the luncheon (for an added fee... but that was prearranged in our contract with them). They really helped make the day totally stress-free (a feeling we definitely didn't enjoy on our actual wedding day!).

HAHA! I'm a South Louisiana girl too, so I can relate entirely. Of course, you can always have surprises the opposite way too. Our wedding day was much like this past winter... we got married on literally the "coldest day of the quarter century" in 1981 and had certainly not anticipated temps in the teens for South Louisiana. I can vividly remember sending out a groomsman in a mad search for StaticGuard as my poor bridesmaids stood there plastered with their static covered gowns clinging to them like Saran Wrap from the unexpected cold!!! Their hair looked like they were all Einstein impersonators. We're just not used to primping in those kind of temps down here! :rotfl:

Oh my, I really cannot imagine have the luck to have my wedding day be on one of the snow days we have had in recent winters around here.

What a shock!

My dear husband is a New Orleans boy through and through. He simply does not "do" cold.

Sounds like you guys like boardwalk, as do we. Kind of reminds me of a VERY tame version of the certain crescent city neighborhoods.

Wonder how the oil leak will affect the seafood at Disney?

Disney deals in volume, and I'm sure they don't want to be caught in the position of having to say "Sorry, we're all out of that." I predict we will see some significant menu changes over the next few months. PERHAPS they will have some favorite seafood dishes available for the "regulars" upon request that do not appear on the menu, but as seafood is already doubling in price here, I foresee the Florida destinations having the same problems in the near future. With all the folks hit by the oil situation (not just workers on the rigs or affiliated business or even those that service those folks, but literally anybody who is touched by the state budget that is so closely tied to oil revenue... ANY public servant, State Police, fire marshalls, LSU employees, teachers, etc., etc., etc., etc.), Louisiana has a VERY rough road ahead. I hope the other states are spared some of this, but I fear they may not be.

You hit the nail. . . the non profit I have worked for for 3 years just lost half of its regular funding from the state.

Unfortunately, we assist people with disabilities.

Everyone is affected, not just the shrimpers and the restaurant owners.

The restaurant in New Orleans that my DD20 just began working for is closing to revamp to switch from a seafood restaurnant to a sports bar.

What tourists are going to travel to the city to eat cuisine at a sports bar?

Beautiful pictures! One question: Did you get any hassle from Disney staff about taking wedding-type pictures without purchasing a vow renewal package through them? We would love to do this for our parents' 40th but the cost of a Disney vow renewal is a bit prohibitive.

No, all of the Cast Members went out of their way to make us feel very welcome and special for our anniversary. Afterall, Disney is in full advertising blitz encouraging folks to come and "celebrate" with them. It would be pretty hypocritical to invite us to come celebrate our special occasions and then fuss at us for doing that very thing!

We were not disruptive with our photos, but respectful of the fact that the resort is open to everyone. All of our photos were taken in publicly accessible spots and without interfering with the activities of other guests. In fact, other families took photos in front of the Christmas tree together after we did. It also helped tremendously that we selected a photographer who knew Disney policies and was thoughtful of those around us. All of our vendors were selected from a list of Disney-approved providers.

There are certainly big differences in the day we had versus the Disney vow renewal packages. We wanted our ceremony in a church, so our actual renewal was perfect for us. But, if I had dreamed of a "fairy tale" wedding, then we would have gone with the Disney package. Also, if I had ever considered wearing actual wedding attire (which never even tempted me), then we would have gone with the Disney package. Our cake was just what we wanted, but I believe you can get something much more customized and/or elaborate with the Disney package. We enjoyed our lunch very much, and the Cast Members made us feel like royalty... but we also went on a very good day for this. The restaurant was somewhat empty when we were there and we ordered right off the luncheon menu. Since there were many empty tables around us, the Cast Members were able to provide us with the extras we enjoyed... a separate table for the cake and space for our photographer to move around and take great shots. He even took photos of the folks around us that we emailed to them later (we collected their email addresses as he took them... it was really a friendly atmosphere around us!). But, what if our anniversary had happened to fall on a very busy day? Then, it could have been a very different experience. Booking a Disney package avoids that uncertainty. So, if you want to guarantee a perfect day, and certainly if your anniversary falls sometime that isn't an Adventure or Choice season, then you would probably be better off with a Disney package rather than a self-planned event.

HTH! Evey =)

Congratulations! Great pictures- hmmmm-do you think I should pass the link along to our kids? They wanted to do something for our 25th that never happened due to too much going on-deployments, etc. Our 35th is coming up. The kids/grandkids would probably enjoy this a lot.

Thank you for taking the time to share this. I hope you get your Aulani trip just right.

Thanks Heather, how did your plans with Jose turn out? I was so glad to see y'all could get the DVC woes worked out!!!

K-wa and Disney_Mama, thanks for taking a peek at our day! It helps us relive it each time I read a comment! =)

wdwnut, definitely pass on the link... and if they want help with the planning, tell them to shoot me a message. I have all the contact info for our vendors, if they need it.

Tassma, thank you so much for the well wishes (we need them!). I will probably drive myself nuts with wonder between now and the time we can call to try to book our reservations... but in the meantime, I'm researching what is around the island. We've never been to Hawaii, but a friend of DD is now there with her hubby (he's a Naval pilot) and she's scouting things out for us. I'll just keep hoping for that pixie dust!!!

As a professional photographer I appreciate reading your comments about your experience with your photographer. Having a seasoned professional photographer capture your event not only ensures excellent photographs but also we know how to make ourselves as transparent as we can so that you can enjoy your day. I applaud the way you prepared for the day, sounds like it was a truly memorable time for all of you, congratulations!
