Apparently she doesn't.

Leaving a dog on a chain outdoors for any length of time seems cruel to me whether you're home or not.

We live out in the country and we're not allowed to let our dogs roam loose either. There's a simple solution. Fence your yard or don't have an outside dog.

Sorry, I don't feel bad for her. I feel bad for her dog. What a horrible death he must have suffered.

You are exactly right.

So sorry about your loss. I'm sure you never intended for your dog to get hurt much less die such a tragic death. Unfortunately we ALL make mistakes. (Choke collars should only be used for training but this could have happened with a regular collar too).

I love my dogs very much, they are like my children. In two weeks, though, we are going away and leaving a 13 y.o. blind, frail dog as well as a 4 month old pup (if we could take them we would). I pray they are alright when we're gone and have taken great effort in planning their safe care. Hopefully they'll be ok but there are no guarantees in anything.

I'm sorry for your loss. :(

I dont know for sure what happened. The cable he is on was tied around his legs and she thought he couldnt get to his water. Could have been that he had a choker collar on to and exerted too much energy trying to get to it.

Yes, that is probably what happened. I don't know why he was on a cable AND wearing a choker collar. That is torturous for an animal.:(

It really upsets me when animals are not looked after properly.

I'm sorry for your loss. It could have been avoided.:(

Our dog is on a cable daily. We live in town and he isnt allowed to run free.

I didnt post to get critcized. It wasnt intended to be a debate and I will not particiapte in such a thread.

Thanks to those for your condolences. Just thought perhaps you could help me get over the situation.

Oh my, how very sad. I have 5 Toy Poodles and I always worry about them while I'm on vacation. That kind of news would KILL me.

I don't understand why you couldn't put him in a kennel? My kennel has the vet's number and local family numbers for emergencies and they also have our cell phone numbers. They called us on our last Disney vacation to tell us one of our dogs had a sezure (which they do sometimes) but the call scared me! They just wanted to make sure the sezures were normal for our dogs. The kennel and shots to go into the kennel are just part of our vacation cost; budgeted in automatically.

I have a fenced in backyard which I let the dogs hang in but I'd never leave them there for more than a few minutes and I don't have a runner or chain for them either. My DH always tells me they'd be fine for hours but NO WAY.

I didn't think any town let dogs run free anymore?? Except I would think they can run free in a fenced in backyard.

How very unfortunate and so so sad.:sad1:

Sorry you are getting criticized. Sorry you lost your dog. I know that's a hard thing to go through. Don't let the negative people get you down.

I am very sorry for your loss and will pray for you and your family. Please don't let some of the posters that were on the insensitive side bother you, there are others here, like myself, who care and only wish you condolences and prayers.

No one should be making these awful comments, none of you were there or really know the situation, so how can you judge?
A fellow DISer came here to be comforted by friends and if you can't do that, why bother to post? Keep your mean comments to yourself, because there is no point to them.

jstbcuz94--please don't let the comments of a few stop you from talking to the rest of the friends you have here.

There are some very insensitive and even cruel people here....I'm sorry for your loss.

What a sad situation to return to. I'm very sorry. :( And I've sent you a pm.

So sorry to hear about your dog. I know it can be so hard on children to lose a family pet.:(

The OP made the situation pretty clear.

Sounds like the poor little guy strangled himself on his choke collar trying to get to his water. :( How awful to be left outside like that.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I lost a dog in May and it's so hard!

Please don't get another animal.

I'm crying thinking about how that animal suffered. May he rest in peace now.

Bojangles

Seems like you are here to start a debate rather than help someone to feel better. I am sure if the good Lord were here right now He wouldn't be posting some of the things some of you have. I would venture to think he would be trying to comfort the OP. Some of you are unbelievable!

If the good Lord were here? are you kidding me? It was the good Lord who took her dog when he saw how he was suffering.

Hulabird, don't you know that some of them think they are God? After all, only God is supposed to judge others. It's one thing to educate others by saying that this isn't a good idea (the choke collar)....it's another to make someone who has lost a pet feel as bad as some of you are trying to do. I'm sure she wouldn't make this mistake again now that she knows what can happen.
