Our dog died while we were at WDW

On our first full day of vacation, my little sister called while we were on the boat for an Illuminations Cruise, and said she found our dog dead.

I dont know for sure what happened. The cable he is on was tied around his legs and she thought he couldnt get to his water. Could have been that he had a choker collar on to and exerted too much energy trying to get to it.

Anyway, DH and I cried..........but didnt tell anyone what was wrong til my inlaws were at the airport coming home as they were going to take care of Nick the rest of the time for us.

Told the girls when we got home. What a sad, sad, thing.

I think I took it harder than anyone, and I'm not really a dog person.

I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm sure if you realized what could have happened you never would have done it. Don't take the following warning too hard.. I just can never tell people this enough.

people, please realize...Choker collars should NEVER be used for ANYTHING BUT training for just this reason!! NEVER tie your dog out or even leave him in the house walking around in one. It's like leaving a noose around your neck just waiting for a disaster. After training, immediately remove them from their necks.

Well put Laureen, I wasn't going to say anything because she is obviously very sad and I felt this was not the time for a pet safety rant, but you put it very, very well. A very situation all around.

I too have to agree with the majority of the posters here; we have two dogs who we love like children and when we go on vacation we leave them at my aunt's kennel in a huge cage with an inside area to sleep and an outside area to run around in; my aunt feeds and walks them twice a day, gives them their daily vitamins and my mom comes over daily to see her 'grandpups' to play with them. No matter how harsh this sounds, we would never leave our dogs tied up (most especially if it was a choke collar)!!! I only feel sorry for the poor animal that had to choke to death!!! My apologies if anyone thinks I am being too harsh but I love animals and this really bothers me!!!

I am also sorry for your loss. It looks like you learned your lesson the very hard way. Everyone else, don't you think she already knows what she did wrong? There isn't any reason to keep beating her up for it.

Our dog is on a cable daily. We live in town and he isnt allowed to run free.

I didnt post to get critcized. It wasnt intended to be a debate and I will not particiapte in such a thread.

Thanks to those for your condolences. Just thought perhaps you could help me get over the situation.

Apparently she doesn't.

Leaving a dog on a chain outdoors for any length of time seems cruel to me whether you're home or not.

We live out in the country and we're not allowed to let our dogs roam loose either. There's a simple solution. Fence your yard or don't have an outside dog.

Sorry, I don't feel bad for her. I feel bad for her dog. What a horrible death he must have suffered.

I wasn't intending to beat her up over it. The reason I posted the warning was so that maybe another dog would be saved by someone realizing how dangerous this could be.

I know if I lost a pet or loved one due to an accident I didn't realize could happen, I would be the champion of a cause to make sure it didn't happen to anyone else.
