Hi everyone:
First of all, sincere thanks for your suggestions and support so that we would have a fun trip, and we did!
We did end up hiring a car for transportation and while it was not cheap, it worked well for us. We arrived at DLR with plenty of time to spare but just before we were going to line up with our e-tickets in hand, (thanks for that suggestion!) I had a medical issue and we were delayed. Grumble grumble.
So we missed rope drop and about 20 minutes of "first thing" ride time, and thus did not ride Peter Pan's Flight which is usually how we like to start the day. But, my daughter was anxious to ride Space Mountain anyway, so we toddled over to Tomorrowland and I waited for her to ride Space Mountain twice - walked on. I was good to go by the time she was ready to ride again, and was so surprised to find the coasters are quite different than WDW's configuration and that we could sit side by side which was fun. The Daughter rated the DLR ride better than WDW so it was all good.
Indiana Jones was down for the first 2/3 of our day and that was so disappointing. We kept popping back to see if it was "up again" throughout the day, and there was serious joyous squealing to find it was "up" about 3pm. We rode 2x as single riders and really enjoyed it.
We also managed Tea Cups, and the Matterhorn. The Daughter especially loved that ride! We did Thunder Mountain and Haunted Mansion Holiday and then went to Toontown so the teenager could ride Roger Rabbit and Gadget Coaster. I went into the gift shop and purchased personalized Gingerbread Mickey Hats which were new and we got SO MANY fun comments and smiles for the rest of the day, especially CMs. (Actually, when we got home, I was amazed that she wore her hat to school - for the entire day!!! Apparently, it is a vair cool hat =o)
We hopped to California Adventure around 4pm and it was only then that we were able to pick up our World of Colour FP - red section. Oh well, it was all good and a lovely show. We rode California Screamin' twice - once walk on (15 minute wait) and once by FP. We also walked on to Soarin' and enjoyed Little Mermaid twice. Toy Story was very busy everytime we walked by, so we gave that a miss. It was fun to ride Monster's Inc and for some really weird reason, my teenager wanted to ride the Golden Zephyr and let me tell you, those CMs need a hug because it was cold up there.
We grabbed a bite to eat, and a holiday cookie and stood in our section for World of Colour for about 45 minutes, but lots of people walked up at the end. I guess it just wasn't that busy a day.
It was nice to see the Disneyland Christmas tree, and it was tough not to stay for the fireworks, but when you only have one day, you make the most of both parks, and we had never seen World of Colour before, so it all worked out.
We had enough time to shop for souvenirs before our driver came. By the way, I had asked about drop off areas before our trip and the driver suggested using the GCH front entrance as our meeting place which was perfect, not busy and we found him with no problem at the end of the day. My daughter fell asleep in the car on the way back to Century City.
So, that's how you know, when you have managed to tire out a teenager, and she's happy and asleep, you really are the best.mom.ever.
Wuffs to you all for all your help,
Kelli
