OUR DISNEY STORE IS CLOSING!? anybody else's?

I didn't know there were even any Disney Stores still open... All of them I knew of closed years ago, and Children's Place took over the remaining few, I thought. Like others, I miss the OLD Disney Stores -- they were like mini "World of Disney" stores, with lots of adult clothing and housewares. And pin trading every Tuesday night! :( Then they became nothing more than stuffed animal and baby clothes stores, and then they closed.

I did read recently that a brand new "Disney Store" is supposedly going in at a new mall in my town, but if it's the same crap as right before the old ones closed, they can keep it.

They are closing the Burlington Massachusetts store too. Just too bad that there won't be many left. It's just sad that the kids won't have the store to go to. Soon it will just be in Disney World. I know they weren't owned by Disney but they did have alittle of the same magic.

It is suppose to open in the Summer. The Mall said that the store has not signed the contract. We drive to the new Disney Store in Arundel Mills Mall now.

OH!! I had no idea there is one in Arundel Mills now....how long has it been there? I'm heading there tomorrow. Do you know which area it is in??

**Edited to add: Nevermind....I looked up the mall map on the website & found where the store is

Anyone in NJ near the Freehold Raceway Mall know if the Disney store there has reopened yet? :confused3 I miss that store, but I'd hate to waste the hour drive north to find that its still not back in business.

The Disneystore in Freehold, NJ was supposed to reopen this coming summer, maybe July. It is ALL on hold. Children's Place is selling the stores BACK to Disney! But more stores will shut down before, during, and after this transaction.

Many of us former CMs are holding our breath on this. I want to go BACK now! I guess you could say the current CMs are anxious, excited, but worried (many stores will close) as this goes thru.

Freehold (my former store) will hopefully still reopen someday.....

The surviving Disney Stores will no longer be affiliated with Children's Place.

Ours here in Southeast Michigan closed ages ago, but I'll admit that I never bought a thing there that wasn't on the deepest discount clearance rack; otherwise, waaaay too expensive.

They closed the gorgeous Braintree, MA store years back and reopened in another location in the mall - it's always felt like a temporary store though as they never even bothered with carpeting, decor or lighting like the real stores. I wouldn't be sad to see that one go as it's very depressing.

I grew up going in/out of the Burlington, MA store. I'll be heartbroken to see that one go, especially since there's a RFC in that mall and the two just go hand in hand.

I love the little Taunton store though & the people who work there are the best! Disney had better leave this one open or I'll... I'll... (yeesh, I can't say I'll boycott Disney now can I?) *sigh* I'll be vewry vewry sad.

Ok the disney stores aren't doing well. I'm on another board an a person the works at TCP said the stores are being sold back to Disney. I don't know how true this is. But I sure hope it is better product.

Had to add they said it was in some sort of letter.

My cousin works at the Disney Store, and she was told that about 150 stores will be closing before this is all done. So far, she hasn't heard if the one she works at (Manchester NH) will be on the list or not.

The Disney Store in Amarillo, TX is closing if it hasn't already.
:sad1:

On the other hand, I am excited that Disney may be buying them back. I had wondered why I couldn't find the really good stuff anymore.

Thanks for the info! I hope the transition goes smooth and happens quickly. I'm actually glad to hear that Disney is taking the stores back (hopefully better item selection will be a result), but I hate to hear that any of the stores may be closing. :sad1:

There are several threads going about this. There was a press release on Thursday about Children's Place wanting out of the Disney Stores.

From what I have read, Disney is thinking about taking the stores back BUT they will close one third of the stores. There are about 300, so about 100 would be gone.

As far as what merchandise they will have, what benefits CM's will have, I think all of that is very premature. The first decision will be which stores stay open. What to do with the open stores will follow. Lots of stores were slated to be remodeled and now all of that is on hold. I hope we get to keep at least ONE Disney Store within reasonable driving distance.

I had no idea that TCP took over the Disney Store, but that sure explains a lot. I mean, I like TCP for the deals, but I think Disney Stores sure have gone downhill. I remember the very first one I was in, I was practically in tears over how great it was for the adult stuff (my life pre-kids). My DD4 likes to make a weekly trip to the Disney Store, but so much of the product is junky and falls apart instantly. It is really cheaply made stuff with inflated price tags. I thought it was just me being nostalgic or just plain desensitized to Disney products, but now I can see that it isn't just me. Just the other day I was wishing for more Studio stuff... When did TCP take over?? Lets keeps our fingers crossed for old school Disney Stores again.

OP said there is an outlet in Atlanta? Where???
When I worked at TDS north of Atlanta, we were one of 10 in the nation who remodeled, yet they did close ALOT back in 2003 so they are scarce around Atlanta and south....

It is at Discover Mills! :goodvibes

Twinklebug, thank you for your kind words about the Taunton store. I have been a CM there since we opened, almost 15 years now. Yes, Disney has bought us back and yes, they will be closing 110 stores. We are so hoping we stay open. It will be a very long 4-6 weeks as they close stores. I am thrilled we will once again be a part of the WD Company. I stayed after the sale because of the cast and management team, we are the best!!!!!
All stores will have a phone # available to guests with questions regading the "rumors".

The one in Rivergate Mall in Nashville is closing too! We do have a Disney Outlet at Opry Mills, however, that is not closing.

I was just in that store at Opry Mills last week and it was pretty sucky. Trashed out, dirty, a big mess. And a big disappointment to me since my Disney Store closed many years ago when before they sold them to the Children's Store.

Am I the only person who doesn't miss them?

I loved this store before Children's Place took over. Now I don't even bother to go in. Thier "adult" stuff is just horrid!

You are so right the adult merchandise is awful.

I was just at the store in Knoxville yesterday. I was told the stores have just been sold back to Disney:woohoo: and will no longer be owned by Children's Place.

Is the Gwinnett Place Mall store still open??? When does it close??? Anything left??

We go to the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN on occasion, and we were so disappointed after TCP took over. It went from an intimate store with different rooms and themes, and beautiful colors, to a bright and contemporary store with no character what-so-ever. The one in our mall closed a few years back, and we hardly ever go to the mall now. We were so disappointed, because we liked to head up there as a family to see what was new and more importantly - what was on sale!

Really hoping Disney does start to rebuild the Disney Stores and reopens them even better than the originals!

We need to get our Disney fix, right?
