Hello everyone
I will give you as much detail as I can, some of the posters remember their meals so well here.
Our first night we ate at San Angel Inn in Mexico at Epcot. It was one of the best places we dined. I loved the backdrop and moonlit sky and our server was wonderful. I had the mixed grill with shrimp and steak and my dh had the filet. Both were so good, I feasted on both. Our son got a taco which he enjoyed. I could not understand the bad reviews of this place. It seemed like a can't miss to us.
Second night we ate at the Coral Reef. Boy having your reservations really helps, I would never go with out them. We loved the place and how can you not enjoy watching the fish. My dh got the Mahi and I got the steak. Both meals were so so. I just did not love the food. But the service was great and when she learned it was close to our anniver. she brought us each a glass of free Champagne. Very special. The deserts were average as well and I think we would go back, if the menu changed and offered us something that was more appealing.
The next day lunch was at Columbia H. House and we liked it a lot. You can get fish or chicken, we tried both, but the fish was much better than the chicken, IMHO.
Dinner was at Chef Mickey's because it was my son's birthday. The mashed pot. and london broil were yummy, but overall the noise level and very average food left me cold. I am happy my son liked it, but we would not go back.
Our next stop was Mitsukoshi. It was fun, but very much like any steak house where they cook the food in front of you. Our son liked it, and we all got the shrimp and steak. I had heard that Le Cellier was very good, and that was not our our list so next time I would pick that. AT home, they cook the rice on the grill with egg and I love that....here they bring you a bowl of steamed rice, but it was still good. Just not stellar.
While my ds 7 went on the
cruise, we ate brunch at the Yatch Club. That was so good. So much food. They eggs were so awesome and they had meats, gravy, pancakes and salmon. More food than you can handle, but very wonderful.
That night we went to Victoria and Albert's for dinner. We sat in the fireplace room and there were 2 other couples in there as well. Our menus did have our name on them which was nice. I got the wine pairings but dh did not because of his chemo treatments. He can drink, but he does not have the taste for it like he used to. I must say that they 'say' it is only 3 glasses of wine, but I assure you, it seems like a lot more than that.
Also the man next to us asked his date to marry him so they brought everyone in the room champagne. More to drink!
I will be honest with you all. It was a wonderful experience and the food was good, but I am not sure I would go back. We got all these tiny packages of food. Small tid bits, which were all very good and different. And it was enough to fill you up. I like the John Dory (I hope I spelled that correctly) the best. It was a tender fish that tasted like it was coated in parm cheese. All of it was beautiful and well presented, but I have eaten at better places. Many people said they got a chocolate card to take home, but we did not. We enjoyed ourselves and I will be happy to answer any questions that you have. Our bill, for those curious, was (with out dh wine pairing) $288.00 before tip. We did not go for the extras on the menu because we liked the choices that were included.
Last meal was California Grill. It was more sterile that I expected. Open place where you can see the kitchen and the lack of walls made for a lot of noise. I got the bone in ribeye and wow was that a huge piece of meat. Everyone at the table laughed at how huge it was. It was not tender but the flavor was good. My dh got the tenderloin and he loved it. We shared the blueberry tart which was very good. We were on the dining plan and the server went to a lot of trouble to check our card and make sure we understood it was 2 credits. Then, we noticed they charged the meal plan but also charged the credit card we had used to hold the reservation $177.00. Then about 2 days later, the $177.00 was removed. I have no idea why that happened but it was odd. We also spent about $60.00 extra on drinks. We did have the flat bread and everyone was right, it is wonderful.
The dining plan was fun and well worth it. I am sad to hear that there will be changes because it was great just the way it is now. It is a lot of food, but we did not fill our belly everytime just for the sake of it. Mara (we stayed at AKL) was a great place to use snack credits for breakfast and we ended up using our meal credits perfectly. We had none left over. Careful planning helps with that.
Ask me anything you like and I hope I was not too long!!
Maggie
