We ate here on Sunday night with a 5 o'clock PS. We were seated and our server sat with us and talked about our day with our sons (their favorite rides, what we like to eat, what Boma offered, etc.). I thought she was going to be a great server.
Instead we barely saw her during our entire meal. DH and I sat with empty glasses for the majority of this meal. She was serving the table beside of us as well, and their glasses were also empty.
The pod with the children's food was a mob scene. It is located on one side of the entryway the server's use to get back and forth to the kitchen area. The servers were having an almost impossible time getting through here.
The food: DH liked the prime rib, but there was no au jus that we saw. This would have given it some flavor. Instead they had an African BBQ sauce, a mustard sauce, and one other sauce. They had roasted vegetables which we would have loved, had they not been overwhelmed by far too much balsamic vinegar. The ox tail soup was too sweet for our tastes.
We tried a great deal of the food, but just didn't care for it. We had really enjoyed the food served in the concierge lounge at AKL, so we expected to love Boma. The seafood gumbo was good. The curried pasta salad was good, and the desserts were very good. The chocolate crunch beats out even the zebra domes IMHO.
We will not be returning to Boma. I know many people rave about it, but my family did not care for the food or the service.

Sorry you didn't care for it. I'm sure that the spicing isn't everyone's cup of tea. I loved it--one of the best meals I have had, but DW and DSD were less impressed (except for the Zebra Domes--DSD ate enough of those to pay for her meal).

Hi! It wasn't the spices. It was the selections. As I said, we enjoyed the concierge lounge food. It was from Boma and Jiko. We loved the sugarcane skewered chicken and salmon served there, and the peanut sauce was fantastic. Perhaps that is served at Jiko?
I recognized some of the desserts from the lounge, as well. That is where I first tried the chocolate crunch.
The food at Boma, was just... different. For example, they had coconut Tiramisu. Now I may be wrong, but I thought Tiramisu was Italian- not African. I love Tiramisu, but the addition of coconut just killed it for me. There were no just plain veges. There was a type of corn relish, the grilled veges in balsamic vinegar I spoke of, and a salad. Even the pap was OK, but that is corn. Corn is not a veggie.
The service was far beyond bad, however.

It's amazing how we come up with totally different views on the restaurant. We went on Wednesday at 7:20 pm and our server was wonderful. We thought the food was wonderful. The coconut chicken curry stew was to die for. This was our second visit to Boma and it will not be our last.

I too dislike Boma as I have posted many times before. It truely is funny how people can have such different perspectives...I sometimes just can't believe when I see people raving about this place, but everyone is entitled to their opinion...

It was hands down the worst meal I've ever had at Disney.

I didn't find too much I liked at Boma's either :( Later in the evening I was running down to the Boardwalk to purchase some Pepto Bismol because I had the worst heartburn and upset stomach.

The desserts were good though :)

Ohhhh dandave, you just don't know what you're talking about!! The food is exotic and different and since you don't know what it is supposed to taste like, they can tell you it is EXCELLENT!!!!

LOL....<Tongue firmly planted in cheek>.....We didn't like it either. Now you know why the kids 'pod' was so mobbed, that's where the edible food is.

Hi Bob!! Yes, I know. I am just so unrefined and all... :D :D :D

We were at Boma last weekend (Saturday night). We had an 8:20 PS and were seated at exactly 8:20 p.m. We had been to Boma once before and enjoyed it. However, I didn't enjoy it this time quite as much. Our server was okay, not great. He disappeared for long periods when we could have used fresh coffee/beverages. We enjoyed the prime rib and salmon. Apparently, they had ribs earlier in the evening, but ran out. Our server told us they would be bringing out pork loin, but we never saw it. The kids' pod was very crowded. Overall, it was a bit of a disappointment. The noise level in there is quite loud. It is difficult to have a conversation without shouting. I'm not sure I would go again. Since there are so many good places to eat at Disney, I will probably try something else. Actually, Jiko looked good to me. I may try that next time.

Our party of 7 loved Boma .. It was the best meal of our trip. Just as some of you can't imagine why some like it, I can't imagine why someone would not. I don't even think the 3 kids in our group ate from he kids pod.

My kids barely ate anything from the kids pod, either. You really couldn't get close enough to it to get much of the food off of it.

[QUOTE. Even the pap was OK, but that is corn. Corn is not a veggie.

Ok..I'll bite...if corn is not a veggie ,what is it? ;)

Hi! I'm no expert, but to me corn is a starch. Wheat, corn, potatoes, anything like that, I consider a starch. I'm sure someone will come along and explain how potatoes are tubers and wheat is a grain and all, but to me they are starches.
I did have a couple of malted hops and barley beverages later to help me forget the whole Boma experience, but I generally do not care for "starches".

Thanks for the review dandave.Probably not my cup of tea, either(since I dislike WDW coffee!!), but folks on the boards have seemed to rave about Boma.

Glad to hear a different perspective. But then, I'm the one who sat down at Kona Cafe last year and left because I didn't like the selections.

Different strokes!

melomouse:)

Hi melomouse!! Remember, though, I'm the one who <b>likes</b> the coffee. ;)

Thanks to everyone here for warning me in advance about the 'spicy' nature of Boma's food. I have a severe allergy to any type of hot pepper or curried dish, so I guess we will be passing on this one :(

I just made my 3rd PS for Boma today for the end of the month. I get to take MY DA, and 2 DC's to let them try it. They are all vegatarians, and I had to make a special note with the PS. I am so worried they will not enjoy it, but I took them the menu and let them try to decide. It was between that and chef mickeys. My fingers are crossed, but the 2 kids are very picky. At least I know they will get their fill of desserts. ;) We have gone 2 times already, and did not like everything, but defently found our fill of good food, even a little mac and cheese. I did not like their prime rib, but 1900 Park Faire's was much worse. We love trying the new resturants, and hopefully will get to try quite a few more.

FYI... I love their tairimsu. I normally do not like it at all, and my DMIL is 100%italian, hers is really gross.

Kitten516, I sincerely hope you all have a wonderful time.

FYI, I recently discovered that the probable reason behind my liking WDW coffee, is that I have been drinking the stuff DH brews at home. You can have my share of the tiramisu w/coconut.

thank you. I hope we do too. If not at least we were able to spend some time together. That should be fun in itself. You can have my DMIL's tiramisu.;)

Kitten516, I really do hope ya'll have a great time. While I very much disliked Boma, I wouldn't wish my misfortune on you and yours. Have fun, and enjoy your meal! I agree, being together is fun in itself.

Please do send me some of your MIL's tiramisu. Maybe it will overpower the taste of my DH's coffee. ;)
