Saturday, February 17, 2001 - Mickey's wakeup came at 6:30 am. He said there were going to be "Big Doin's Today". Paul and I had been awake for awhile, but the kids were both still pretty tired. We had breakfast at the foodcourt (as we did all week) and we were out at the bus for Animal Kingdom at 8:30. We had a great morning at Animal Kingdom. The first thing we did was the Kilimanjaro Safari. We practically walked right on. It was probably the best safari that we have been on. Since it was so early many of the animals were out. After the safari we did the Pagani Forest Exploration Trail. After that I can not remember the order of the rides, but we did Dinosaur, Kali River Rapids, the Lion King Show (which was fantastic as usual), Maharajah Jungle Trek, and It's Tough to be a Bug. We ate at the Flame Tree Barbecue, which is my favorite place to eat at Animal Kingdom. We left Animal Kingdom at 1:00 and headed back to Port Orleans. We changed into long pants since we knew we would be out late, and Paul went to Alamo to take the car back. Ben, Chris and I headed to Epcot. We met Paul in front of Spaceship Earth at 3:15. Before Paul arrived we checked the line at Test Track. It was over an hour wait, and all the fast passes for the day were gone. The rides we did in Future World were, Spaceship Earth, Journey Into Your Imagination, Honey I Shrunk the Audience, Universe of Energy, Ben and Chris did Body Wars while Paul and I did Cranium Command (a favorite of mine). After we finished in Future World we headed over to the World Showcase. I went and confirmed our reservations in the UK at the Rose & Crown Restaurant. We had 7:30 reservationsand we requested a table on the patio near the railing. I had read that these are wonderful seats to view Illuminations from. After I checked the reservations it was almost time for the 6:30 Tapestry of Nations Parade. There was an empty spot on the curb in front of Rose & Crown so we sat right there. We had a wonderful view of the entire parade. The parade ends in the UK so it is an especially nice place to watch it from. I just love that parade and music! While we were waiting for our table for dinner we listened to the British Invasion Band in the UK. Ben really liked them this year since he is so into the Beatles and they play a lot of Beatles music. Our table was ready at just about 7:30 and it was exactly where I wanted it to be! We knew that we need to take our time with dinner, so we ordered an appetizer to share. We all got an entree, and Christopher ate all of his!! We got 2 desserts to share. Ben got a special chocolate cake and Chris and I shared the Spaceship Earth Millenium dessert. It was a hollow chocolate spaceship earth filled with white chocolate mousse. It was delicious. Ben said his cake was delicious also. He was very impressed with the chocolate decoration of the Princess on the plate. The view of Illuminations from the Rose & Crown was indescribable. It was the most fantastic thing any of us had ever seen. Thanks to the DIS on the Internet for that helpful tip! After Illuminations we checked the line at Test Track, but it was still too long. Back to Port Orleans and to bed at 11:00 pm. Tomorrow we start the day at MGM - Disney Studios.

Enjoyed your trip report! The Tapestry of Nations parade is so inspiring and pretty and my kids loved it last year. :D

Thanks for the report! We did the same dinner on our first night. The food was terrific, the view awesome! Since it was just DH & I, we shared the beer sampler too. (I was amazed at the people who walked up, expecting to get a view seat w/o PS!)
