Day 7

Today we said goodbye to BIL and SIL. They met us at the Beach Club around 11 and drove us over to the Poly. We had Bell Services move our luggage so we wouldn’t have to lug the heavy suitcases. We were denied a late check out at the Beach Club so we were hoping they would have our room ready at the Poly. They dropped us off and headed back home. I was sad to see them go. We really had fun with them. But we were so excited about staying at the Poly. I can describe the feeling that came over me. I have been visiting the Poly since I was a kid. I’ve done the Luau and have eaten at the Kona Café and Ohana’s several times. I’ve always dreamed I would stay here someday, but it’s just so expensive! We chose the Poly as part of the package that my husband won so we only had to pay for one night.

It was so cool waiting in line to check in. Everyone is so nice at this resort. You get a smile and a Aloha from everyone you meet. The staff here really takes pride in their hotel, you can tell. The cast member checking us in was so nice. Our reservation was a little confusing because our room keys would have to be exchanged the next day for new ones, which contained our unlimited park hopper passes. She understood the reservations perfectly and told us she found us a nice room that was ready. She gave us all our paperwork and our map and we were off to explore.

We were located in the Niue building, which is right next to the Great Ceremonial House. We were in room 2702. We were on the second floor with a view of the GCH and the Volcano Pool. The location was perfect. It was just a short walk to the monorail. We didn’t have a balcony. This building only has 2 floors. The balconies only seem to be on the third floor rooms. It was ok though. I could still open the sliders and enjoy the view. The room was beautiful, just how I always imagined and in much better shape than the Beach Club room. It looked brand new and meticulously maintained. I asked the mousekeeper if the room was new and she said no, it was one of the oldest buildings. I told her that it looked brand new. She said that it was because they do such a great job. I have to agree. The staff seemed to take great pride in this resort and they take good care of it. I didn’t get the same feeling when I stayed at the Beach Club. Although, I did get a note slipped under our door from the Beach Club's manager inviting us for coffee and conversation. I would have loved to have gone to give them feedback, but we couldn’t fit it into our plans. We loved the Beach Club but I have to say that the staff at the Poly made us feel a little more special.

After checking in, we went to the Kona Café for Breakfast. I had the Tonga toast. I’ve heard so much about it. It didn’t disappoint. We had a great waiter there, I’m sorry I forget his name, but he was from Cape Cod so we talked about life back home and the seafood. He was quick with the coffee refills, he knows how us New Englanders love our coffee. After breakfast we rented a water mouse and sailed around 7 Seas Lagoon. With 2 of us in the boat it didn’t go very fast. There were kids zooming circles around us. It was pretty funny. We just bounced around in the waves they were so kind enough to make for us.

We still needed to do some serious souvenir shopping so we went to Downtown Disney. It’s a pretty far bus ride from the Poly. The bus also picks up at the other MK resorts. It does a loop from the Contemporary to the Poly and the GF and then to DTD. It takes about 20-25 minutes to get there. We decided on the RF café for dinner. It was around 5pm and it wasn’t too crowded so we decided to eat early. We did lots of shopping and took the bus back to the Poly. We made it in time to catch the MK fireworks from the beach.

We were going to take a swim in the volcano pool but it was pretty busy. Someone said that the cruise people checked in and the hotel was about 90% full. Big difference from the Beach Club, although the day we checked out of the BC a huge convention checked in. I heard they filled up the Y&B Club, Boardwalk and part of the S&D. I’m glad we got out when we did! We decided to make it an early night. Tomorrow would be the beginning of my husband’s prize. Our unlimited magic passes kick in and we have free tickets to Circus du Soliel.

One of my favorite past times - shopping in Downtown Disney - thanks for posting!
