Day 5
This would be a 12 hour marathon day for us, no breaks. We were up and out by 9 A.M. and walked to Epcot. We got to the United Kingdom when our brand new video camera started to malfunction. Couldnt be because I mistakenly dumped some of my bottled water on it the day before? Just a tip, if you dont close the cap to those Dasani water bottles they leak a lot! Walked back to the hotel to drop off the video camera. I decided not to attempt to record any more since the camera sort of ate the tape. No big deal I was able to fix it and the footage is fine. After I got home I read that it was due to the moisture in the camera. Oh well, were going to have to go back, so I can capture everything we missed on video!
Back at Epcot we decided to have a quick bite for breakfast (no more all you can eat stuff) at the electric umbrella. After we went directly to Test Track. There was no line. Ive never seen that ride with no line, ever. It's such a blast!! There still were no people when the ride was over so they let us stay on. Woo hoo two times in a row. I could stay on that one all day. DH dragged me off the ride and we went to Ellens Energy Adventure. I love Ellen and I never get sick of this one. The Jeopardy sequence is so funny.
We were starting to get hungry for lunch so we decided on Italy. Both my DH and myself were both brought up in Italian families with some great traditions. Most important to us is a good dining experience. We just love Alfredos. We especially love the musicians playing the old Italian songs. I was disappointed that they didnt have the musicians for lunch. The restaurant was actually kind of empty and we know that that is one of the busier restaurants at Epcot. We spoke to a staff member and they said that Disney has had the worst September ever. They were hopeful that business would pick up in Oct. I truly hope that it does. I would hate to see them cut back on things that we love.
DH and I both had pasta dishes, which were good, but I was really there to try the tiramisu. Have I mentioned my serious addiction to tiramisu. I have to have it everywhere I see it on the menu. It was my plan to try it everywhere I saw it at Disney. I have to say that Alfredos has the best tiramisu I have ever had, and Ive had a lot. The waitress told me that they have an exceptional pastry chef and she was right. They also sell it at a small pastry stand near the entrance of the Italian pavilion. I highly recommend it if you like tiramisu. We shopped a little and then moved on to the American Adventure.
I dont think I will ever tire of the American Adventure. Its always given me chills and of course I always get weepy, but it seems more special since 9/11. I think it means more to everyone now. I feel such pride and patriotism when I leave there. Its a good feeling. We caught American Vibe before we went in and the Fife and drum when we got out. I love the Fife and drum and all those patriotic songs. They were making some children honorary patriots and giving them certificates. It was really sweet. I was sorry that we didnt get to see the Voices of Liberty on this trip. Just have to add that to the list of things to do when we go back.
Next we did SSE again and then caught the monorail to the Magic Kingdom. Once there we did HM, CBJ, BTMR and then got the traditional Dole Whip. I got the Dole Whip float this time. I think I like this better. Its pineapple juice with some dole whip spiraled on top. It was refreshing. We then walked over to Tomorrowland and did Buzz. Im too ashamed to tell you my score. It was all my husband's fault he was moving the car around way too much. Next we took a few trips around the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. We were tired and its a nice way to relax for a while. We needed to get back some energy so we did Space Mountain next. No wait at all, we were very lucky, most of the rides were a walk on today.
Our goal was to try to catch FIS fireworks at the MK and Illuminations at Epcot. We figured we would get a quick exit if we watched the fireworks in front of the train station on Main St.. We weren't too hungry so we decided to skip dinner. Instead we grabbed a bench and a bucket of popcorn (the souvenir buckets make great change jars) and waited for the fireworks. The fireworks were as beautiful as ever. The MK has the biggest fireworks Ive ever seen. We got to see a glimpse of Tinkerbell too. When they ended we made a dash for the monorail, which pulled up as we got to the platform. We were whisked away to Epcot. Got to Epcot with plenty of time to spare. We walked to our spot in Canada, grabbed a couple of cold Molsons and enjoyed Illuminations. We were pretty exhausted at this point and walked slowly back to the room. It was the best day yet. I slept really well that night. Tomorrow is MGM.
