Our Anniversary Week at the Happiest Place on Earth!! TR DONE 8/30 SOUVENIR POST SOON

I never heard of NYC being sales tax free. Their taxes are rather high, like 8 or 9%. Maybe it's a tax holiday.

Yeah Kristen if your old then I don't want to know what I am! LOL!

Sounds like 9 people died in that crash today over the hudson most were italian tourists , I believe! I think they said there was one survivor! :sad1:

HAHA none of you are old! I swear!

Thats so sad about that crash...I havent heard the whole story of exactly what happened yet...

Your birthday out in NYC sounds like a blast! Did I read your post right? The NYC Disney Store went out of business!? :confused3 You guys packed a lot of stuff into one day! And ya got some great shopping deals! Is NYC tax free all the time? We're having tax free weekend here right now...on school clothes, computers, etc.

It was so much fun. The WoD is going to go out of business I believe this fall. dont quote me on that but I know its definitely going out, I'm just not totally sure when. I was soooo excited with my shopping deals. Yea, its always sale tax free. On the Island we have things like tax free weeks like you're having right now but I asked a manager at Foot Locker and he said anything under $110 is sales tax free!

I never heard of NYC being sales tax free. Their taxes are rather high, like 8 or 9%. Maybe it's a tax holiday.

It is, any item under $110 is sales tax free. The sales tax on the Island is 8.625% but there its NOTHING, NADA! I'm definitely living in the wrong place LOL

Hey girl! Saw you were on-line.. just thought i'd say heyyyy!!
:jumping1: LOL nope not that bouncy.. just bored.. at work.. haha. how are yah!?

Sounds like a fun time. It's been 20 years or so since I've been to NYC, but I remember the taxes being high then. So don;t know why you had a tax free day, but how cool! LOL!
WOD is closing sometime after Christmas.

Kristen, glad you had such a nice time!

I haven't read everything. Is World of Disney closing or just moving to a different location? I had read months ago that it was moving to a different place, but has that changed?

We had a tax-free weekend here in Nashville this weekend as people prepare for a new school year. It was some kind of crazy out there!

I'm just tuning in! Better late then never right? ;)
What a great trip report...I'm so glad you guys had a good time!
You're a really cute couple! :flower3:

I wasn't sure exactly when they were closing, thanks for the info :)

Yayy, you're back MeMom! I can't wait for you to start your TR. I heard WoD is closing, unfortunately. Jenseib just told me after Christmas. IT stinks.

We have tax free weeks here sometimes too but according to the Foot Locker store manager, NYC is always tax free! Lucky them!

I'm just tuning in! Better late then never right? ;)

Thanks Kristen!! it was!

Glad to hear you had a happy birthday.

Thanks!! :)

Well guys, we're at the last day! The best day! Our Magic Kingdom day! On with the show...

So unfortunately for us, today was our last day. And I'm sorry to report but I seriously lacked on my trip journal for the day. I'm going to have to rely mostly on the pictures and what I can remember all the way back from April. Shame on me! I'll do better next time. We woke up that morning around 7 I believe. We did our usual routine of me showering then waking up Chris to get showered and ready while I finished. At around 8:00 we were ready to go. Both of us were really excited to be heading to someplace we'd totally been looking forward to...Captain Cooks at the Poly to try some Tonga Toast! :woohoo: Originally we had plans to eat at the Kona Cafe but we just didn't want to wake up so early to get there and have time to eat and everything and then make it to the MK by rope drop. So we opted for CC instead. We got a bus really quickly to the MK and then from there hopped on the monorail to CC. We probably made it all the way there in 25 mins, great time!

We walked into our new favorite resort and headed Captain Cook's. It was pretty empty in there and we walked up to the touch screen computers to order. Both of us ordered Tonga Toast and then one side of scrambled eggs to share. We grabbed a seat inside after paying and waited for our buzzer to go off. When it did, Chris grabbed the food. It looked like heaven on a plate as he was approaching the table...here it is...

Chris literally took a picture on his camera phone to send it to his brother to make him jealous LOL Sooooo yummy!!!! If you haven't tried Tonga Toast, pleeeeeease do, you won't regret it (or the 1808430743 calories in it! It's worth it!) Here's the scrambled eggs
417.jpg

Seriously, never have I ever tasted better eggs than these, except for the ones my dad makes. Sooooooo good! Almost as good as the Tonga Toast! I probably only could eat like 3/4 of the TT and then I ate almost all of the eggs though because they were that good! Anyone whose never eaten this stuff needs to asap LOL Ok enough about food.

It only took about 20 mins to eat so by 8:50 we were rushing out of Captain Cooks to get to rope drop.
418.jpg

Hopping on the monorail, I got soo excited! The best park for last! We got there just in time as the opening show was just starting. I'm not going to lie, I teared up during the show! I was so unbelievably happy and excited, it was overwhelming!

This opening show is the most adorable thing in the world. I sooo hope that when I have kids we get chosen to be the lucky family to open the park with Mickey and the gang!

Finally it was time to go in! City hall..

Kristen, Your last day already?? Great update and I really like those MK PICS! :) Can you stretch it out for at least 12 more days ? That will take me to the Sat before I leave  I'll be in Disney that Monday the 24th! :thumbsup2

We had talked about taking the guys over to Captain Cook's for Tonga toast on this trip, but it was one of the 187 things we didn't get done this trip! It is some good stuff, but I like to scrape some of the banana much out. There's a little too much in there for me.

The Magic Kingdom opening show is a dose of happiness!

Aww, I love the MK opening show! A while ago I found a website (someone posted a link on the DIS actually) that had all sorts of Disney park music and the opening song was on there! I love listening to it on my ipod. And I am guilty of tearing up during it too. It's just adorable! :goodvibes

first off.....

:flower3: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!!! :flower3:

sorry i missed it. i've been totally MIA from the disboards lately and i'm slowly but surely catching up on the TRs as i find time. sounds like you had a great day in NYC....glad you got to go there!

i was curious about the no tax thing because i don't remember it from when we were there and i found this:

http://manhattan.about.com/od/citylife1/a/taxfreeweeknyc.htm

apparently it's on clothing and footwear....cool!

oh, about the disney store, i heard that they're closing the big one when the lease expires next year and are going to open a smaller one somewhere in manhattan. but that could totally just be a rumor.

oh, and a morning at MK.......:cloud9: glad you liked tonga toast! it's in the cookbook i got at world of disney in NYC and i'm totally gonna make it one day soon!

Oh gosh, Tonga Toast! Can we please go to Capt. Cook's and get that some morning?! :flower3:

OMG! That tonga toast looks soooo yummy and it made me sooooo hungry! I totally agree its worth all 15 million calories! I think I ate half of mine but it was so good!

I tear up at the opening show too!

I'd love to be picked to be the opening family too! I read a trip report on here once where the mom had everyone get up insanely early and head to mk. They were the only ones there! The mom struck up a conversation with the CM's standing around at the front gate and they talked for awhile and they got picked to be opening family!! The mom had planned it out so that they would hopefully be picked and it worked! :cloud9:

Your MK pictures are giving me a longing for WDW!!! I can't wait to read more!

Wow. That Tonga Toast looks soooooooo good. So I've been to Disney World like 20 times and I have NEVER been to a rope drop. I guess with 7 people in your family being slow in the morning it never happens. I had no idea they did a little show before opening. That is soo cool.

I got all excited for you to go into magic kingdom just looking at the pictures!

When we last left off we had just entered the MK...and I was in my happy place :) Based on the fact that Space Mountain was closed, we decided to head towards Frontierland to do Splash Mountain and BTMRR. Pictures along the way...
428.jpg

429.jpg

We both were looking for the little log raft that takes people across to Tom Sawyer Island because we remembered it from when we were kids! One of the, like, 3 things Chris remembers LOL

We made it!
430.jpg

Typical of the entire vacation, Chris's big head in front of me while I take pictures
431.jpg

432.jpg

We walked right on, i think only one boat loaded before us. Throughout the ride...
433.jpg

Chris and his 5 o clock shadow enjoying the ride
434.jpg

I loveeeee SpM themeing!!
435.jpg

436.jpg

Of course we loved it! Next we went over to BTMRR.
437.jpg

We grabbed FPs for it and then ran right on.
438.jpg

Again, we walked right on the wildest ride in the west! (I think thats what it says, right? LOL)
439.jpg

Next we decided to save our FPs (since they were ready already) and go over through Liberty Square to the Haunted Mansion!
440.jpg

I have a picture of my me, my brother and my gram and pop by this heasrt lookin thing over there from when we went to WDW together in 1998. RIP Pop, we miss you :guilty:
441.jpg

Love this themeing!
442.jpg

443.jpg

I was a little nervous getting into my doombuggy (which we also walked right into, no wait) because I remember tinkgurl telling me that one time one of the CMs scared the bejesus out of her sister by sneaking around the side of the doombuggy and jumping out at her LOL It didn't happen though and we had a great ride!! Love this one!

Wanted to eat here later in the day...would we?
444.jpg

Next up:: The attraction Chris has been asking about and looking forward to for months....
