Our 2nd Trip to Disney! Did it Measure Up? (w/pics) **THE END**

We're flying down Saturday. I'm pretty sure it's 29 days. 4 weeks from tomorrow. (4 x 7= 28 + 1=29) So you have one less day to wait than you thought. WHOO HOO!

...Any ideas on what to do at DS when we get there? It'll probably be crowded by that time (I'm figuring around lunchtime). This is just an extra trip so there's nothing we *have* to do. I'd love some suggestions on how to handle this visit...

Maybe just do some character meets?? And you could do the Animation thing and then play the computers in there. And of course you could do the parade too.

Ahhh...what's the animation thing? I did think about the parade, but you know how I feel about those and the waiting and crowding. Might just play the parade by ear and see how we feel and how things go when the time comes.

Maybe I was counting the current day :confused3 I have recounted and now see I am at 29 days. Thanks for the math lesson ;)

Is this what you were talking about Liz?

MGM is probably the park I am least familiar with. We only spent a few hours here on our last trip. Things like this would probably be great ideas for that first day. I don't want to do any of the major attractions because I want to do them with my parents. And something like this animation thing, we probably wouldn't normally get to fit in on our big MGM day.

Has anyone else done this (Disney Animation)? I'm wondering if the boys will keep quiet and be interested during the tour? That's always my concern! Is it set up in a way that one of us could take DS3 and leave with him if need be?

Who does the driving in your family :drive: (when you're all together, that is)? I would imagine the majority of households have the husband/father doing most of the driving. I know men usually like to be in charge of their machines. In our family, things are done a tad differently. :cool2:

~ Carissa's Tips for Driving to Disney World ~

1) Carissa must do most of the driving.

My husband did not get his license and begin driving until he was 21. My husband does not have a great reputation as a driver (ask his military buddies :scared1: ). My husband has been in a few accidents :sad2: . Therefore, I tend to complain about his driving when I'm in the passenger seat. This tends to make my husband a smidge angry  . In order to keep peace during our long drive to DW, I will do most of the driving.

2) Carissa is not allowed to drink much during the drive.

Normally I have a cup of coffee every morning :surfweb: . When I know we are going to be traveling, I will forego my cup o' joe. Do you know what coffee does? It's a diuretic (in layman's terms, it makes you pee). My bladder is about the size of a thimble to begin with :sad2: . If I drink coffee or water (who am I kidding? if I even think about liquid!), we will be stopping every five minutes to find a restroom :scared: . My boys all have great holding abilities. The pee breaks are for moi. However, we have been known to use an empty water bottle for my DS5 if we couldn't make it to a bathroom in time.

3) The DVD player/stereo system MUST be in working order.

I really don't mind the drive to Florida. As I mentioned before, the DVD player runs non-stop during our trip and the trip passes quite pleasantly :happytv: . We've recently begun having issues with our stereo/cd player. It keeps seizing up on us. Thankfully, dh has figured out how to reboot it and we've also figured out the main issue is the cd player. But, if this machine stops working on our trip, we're screwed :headache: .

4) The two older boys will be receiving Game Boys for Christmas :santa:.

I will admit that part of my reasoning behind this gift was thinking about the drive down to Florida. If the DVD player/stereo does indeed stop working, we have a back up plan. Our youngest has a Leapster. Perhaps we could possibly survive a DVD malfunction :badpc:.

5) If all heck breaks loose and the crying/screaming/fighting/bickering/whining begins, imagine yourself on a deserted beach :beach: with Cap'n Jack Sparrow pirate: . You can pretend the noise escalating in your van is actually the sound of tropical birds playing a concert for just the two of you. Put the window down a bit and let the breeze blow through your hair as you imagine the wind off the waves lightly blowing sand over your entwined bodies...

(play the sound of a needle being dragged across a record)

Ahhh, yes. Back to reality.

I really do enjoy driving places :drive:. I prefer driving new routes so that everything I see is new and exciting. But, knowing our travels will be taking us closer to Disney World makes it all worth it. It really isn't that bad. We'll have a few moments here and there of difficulties, but overall, really not bad.

I don't plan on bringing a ton of items for the boys, besides movies and the electronic gaming devices. They really won't do much more than that anyway. Dh and I will bring our ipods :music: and a book for when we're not driving. I will probably bring a notebook and pen as well to jot down ideas and takes notes along the way (so that I can remember to write about them once I return!). We'll have snacks, of course popcorn:: .

We do stop every 2-3 hours (if not sooner for moi to pee) just so everyone can stretch and we'll do lunch somewhere quick. I'm looking forward to seeing the crazy signage along I95 in NC, SC and Georgia.

We've driven a lot with these kids. We regularly travel 2 hours up to Pennsylvania to visit my in-laws (that's a drop in the hat, though). Earlier this year I traveled by myself with the boys to Maine to visit my family. That took me 10 hours each way (I made great time :hourglass). I was amazed at how well that trip went. While we were living in Australia, we drove from Alice Springs to Kangaroo Island (that means nothing to most of you). That was well over 20 hours (and actually, you can't drive to Kangaroo Island...you take a ferry for part of the way).

I'd say we're seasoned travelers with our children. If anyone ever has any questions on plane or car travel with young children and long distances, I'm your lady :hippie:.

Before I go, I did a bunch of housekeeping tonight on my PTR. I put some links in the first post so that people can jump through the thread quickly to each "titled" entry. There's also a link at the end of each "titled" entry to the next "titled" entry. Hopefully, this will make it easier to navigate :cool2: . Unless you enjoy reading all of the extra comments and then, by all means, browse! As always, thanks for reading

Yep, that's it. And you guys should have no trouble doing this. WE didn't with our 4! All you do is sit in a little theater for the short, yet cute and entertaining, "show". I don't know if you remember from my pictures/trip report where I talked about this and said how #3 totally LOL at the part where Mushu refers to himself as a Chinese hot dog?! All of my boys enjoyed this and sat still the entire time! And then after the theater part, you go into the big room with all the computers, and they have the meet and greets in there too. You just go wherever you want to go, spend as much or as little time as you want to. We didn't do the part where you can learn to draw a Disney character, there was a big line for that. After you leave the big room, there's a series of a couple rooms with Disney items displayed. And then after that is, of course, a shop where you can buy Disney art and collectibles (I LOVE this store, and we have a big wishlist of things we'd love to buy from there!)

LOL to the driving tips....

Well, I KNOW how experienced you guys are with driving far and wide, so I know you'll be just fine. :goodvibes

Heeeyyyyy!!! Thanks for the shout out. I am LOVING your countdown calendar. It is so cute plus I love the trivia & stuff under each day. Very nice!:thumbsup2

Your driving tips had me :rotfl2: . We will definitely have the DVD player going. It helped a LOT on the last trip. :goodvibes

:welcome: Cool!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! It's almost the New Year. And I was just getting use to writing 2007!

We are now at 25 days until we leave for Disney World!!!! So today we will start using our Countdown Calendar. :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:

I have two new resolutions for this coming year. One of them is to be off the computer more. I will post new entries, I just might not be around as often as I was.

Enjoy your holidays!

Up Next...Ouch!

Today I placed our order for Garden Grocer. That was painfully expensive. I'm use to shopping at the commissary and I'm not use to regular grocery store prices! Ouch :sad2:

There were a few items that I just couldn't see paying such a high price for so I'll purchase them here and bring them down with us. Things like granola bars, peanut butter, cereal, etc.

The 3 meals that I've planned for at our townhouse will be spaghetti and meatballs (frozen), breakfast for supper (eggs, homefries, toast), and Shepherd's Pie.

I really need to get Josie to the vet for her shots. I need to have proof when we take her to the kennel. I'll try to get that done next week.

Oh wow!! I have my calendar set to remind me to place my grocery order while you are going to be at WDW. How funny!

Last time I ordered way too much. This time I'm sticking to ordering cold items that I won't be able to just pack and bring with me. Things like cereal or washing detergent, I'm bringing with us.
