Earlier I posted a link to my trip report of our March Disney trip that I posted in my blog (*link has been removed). I'll tell you right now. It's not very good. I didn't spend a lot of time writing it and I just wanted to get it done and completed with the facts (before my old brain forgot them). There really isn't any humor in it (trust me, I just reread the thing
).
I started taking classes online last January (trying to finally earn my degree!) and have been writing in a blog regularly since around the same time. My writing has improved greatly, at least in my eyes. I think the trip reports that I wrote about my visits to Lexington, Virginia and Alaska are much better than the Disney one. So, here's a sample of what you might be in for later on down the road in this trippie.
Here's an excerpt from my Alaska trip report:
"This night was to be an exciting night because Allie was going to take me on a ride along (not sure if I've mentioned this, but Allie is a police officer). We had planned to do it two nights ago, but with them giving Allie the two nights off, it kind of messed up our plans a bit. So, I was to do a ride along on my last night there. My last dinner in Alaska was a real treat. Allie made me King Crab with butter (super yumm-o!) and tempura battered halibut. If you've never eaten King Crab, you must try it. I'd had it in Maryland and loved it for it's super sweet flavor. I'm not a big seafood eater, but that stuff is good. After dinner, Allie took a nap to prepare for her allnighter, while I packed up and read.
It was very cool to be sitting in a police car, although I kept wondering what people thought when they saw me there in the passenger's seat. I am sad (ok...probably more like relieved) to say that it was a very quiet night. We spent most of the night hanging out looking for Fishing Bear (trying to find speeders at the same time). The biggest excitement of the night was when Allie pulled over two vehicicles for speeding. Allie had mentioned to me how "touchy" her volume control is on the radio. So, Allie gets out and heads over to the first vehicle to talk to the guy. I wanted to be sure I got to hear the conversation so I attempted to turn the volume down. Notice the word "attempted". The second I put my finger on that knob, the volume immediately rose to the level that I use when I'm alone in my car rockin' away. Crap! The windows were OPEN! I quickly tried to turn it down again and once more the volume chose to go UP instead. Frick! What to do?! Allie is performing a traffic stop, all professional, and here I am playing with the frickin' radio! I can only imagine what she is thinking, or what the guys in the trucks are thinking. I finally get the bright idea to put the windows up. At least that'll cut down the volume for those outside. I finally conjole the volume control to come down a tad and I decide to leave it. I'm not touching that thing again!
Allie comes back to the car to radio in the guy's info and I start in with, "I'm so sorry! I tried to turn the volume down..." yada yada yada. Allie smiles and says, "Shhh...I have my recorder going." Double frick! She finishes her business and comes back to the car and I am so totally embarrassed. I retell the story to Allie (after she turns her recorder off) and she mentions casually that I could have just pressed the volume control button to turn off the radio. Pause. Crap, frick, crap! I am such a dummy. (But, it did make for a fun story to tell.)"
