My youngest daughter (Cathy) now 22 was just 5 years old when Tabby became a part of our family.
A week before we adopted Tabby my daughter Cathy had brought home a bunny from school in February (in Michigan) to watch over the weekend.
Apparently the bunny had caught pneumonia and died in our care.
Poor Chocolate Chip.
Cathy was distraught so we promised her we would a pet kitten for her.
Do you know hard it is to find a kitten in February? Most kittens are born later in the spring.
We finally found a pet store which had two kittens.
I took Cathy and her older brother (who was 7 at the time) to pick their kitten out.
They chose an orange stripped tabby cat. He had Tabby written on his collar because of the breed he was But the children insisted his name was Tabby.
Thus Tabby became a part of family.
Tabby would not let us keep him in the house he had to be outside if the kids were outside.
In fact just last week he was outside under the patio furniture watching the family while we went swimming in the pool. He has always been a very healthy cat.
I let Tabby out Thursday and he has not come back. I am writing this late Saturday. We are all so worried.
Today my 22 year old and I delivered fliers up and down the road.
I know sometimes when a cat knows it is their time they will wonder off to spare the family. But it is hard without closure.
We are still hoping he will come home but with temps in the 90's the last three days it does not look good.
Please keep my family in your thoughts.
Thanks so much.
