Hi! My DH, DD and I will be going on the 11/6 7-day western cruise. Our daughter will be 13 1/2 months old at that time. This will be her first cruise. My DH and I have cruised many times and this will be our 2nd with DCL. We will be traveling together with my parents.

Has anyone cruised with a child of similar age? How did he/she enjoy the trip? Any suggestions to make our trip better?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Denise

Hi, Denise. I say my youngest is very lucky. It took me 35 years to get to cruise and he cruised TWICE in his first year of life!! We had a 3 night cruise planned with the grandparents when he was just over 3 months old. We liked it so much we changed our vacation plans 5 months later to include another cruise--this time for 4 nights. Our next cruise is coming up in May and we're trying the 7night Eastern---this time with both sets of grandparents!

Jake will be 20 months old and in some ways I'm sure it will be harder because he will be walking (running) everywhere. But also it will be fun to see his interaction with the characters and enjoying the pool, albeit just a Mickey ear, but he'll be thrilled. And the sand at CC. I think the main thing is realizing that it is a vacation and to just take things slow and do what you want to do. We may try Flounders this time--we didn't use it before. I'm still hoping that he will either watch or sleep thru the shows like before. And we like the late dinner because our other 3 kids (10, 8, and 5) usually eat during our appetizer and then go onto the clubs, back to the room, etc. and we can finish our meal leisurely. At the earlier seating it is just more rushed and then we have to take them back out of the clubs for the shows. Once they get started in something we don't want to keep moving/transitioning them every hour. This way we can watch the show, change for dinner, and eat. Once they go to the clubs they can stay until we are done with our adult stuff at night and then we pick them up. as far as the little one, maybe he will fall asleep during dinner and it will be really peaceful for us.

Have lots of fun!! Debi

Hi Denise,

My DD is a CM in the Club. She says if you plan to use Flounder's go make reservations as soon as you get on board to have a better chance of getting the times you want. If you're dining at Palo's, include that info in your request.

Hope this helps.

I just got back from my cruise a few weeks ago with my 20 month old daughter. She had a great time, but it was harder in the fact that she's running around, i'm very glad we brought our own stroller it really helped a lot.
She loved the characters, She went to one show and sat through the whole thing and loved it! She had tons of fun at Castaway Cay.
If I were to go again I would wait until she could go to the clubs. We did use Flounders Reef and loved it! It was our first time leaving her with strangers but as soon as they opened the door she would run in and never look back. We made sure to get there as soon as we could to choose times, and we picked 8-12pm the first three nights. It was great because she would play with the other kids for a bit and then they would put her to bed. While we got a chance to do the adult pool, have some drinks and do some dancing at the clubs.
