If you have your wisdom teeth, when did they start growing in?

The back right side of my mouth is killing me. It feels like immense pressure on my teeth. IT HURTS! How long is it gonna take for them to finish growing in?

My wisdom teeth have been creeping their way up since I was 13. (I'm now 15.) Some days it hurts, most days it doesn't.

When I got my braces off about a year ago, my orthodontist looked at these x-rays and said that I was about to have mine start growing in, but I don't feel them at all. From what I've heard, I will eventually, but I refuse to let anyone cut them out or anything else for that matter unless they are hurting me so bad that I can't take it anymore....mainly because I've never had a cavity...and the worst thing I've had done to my teeth are cleanings and braces. The idea of anyone sticking needles in my mouth....or cutting anything out scares me to no end.

So! No one is touching my wisdom teeth when they come! I WON'T LET THEM!

And my mother, who is even worse than I am when it comes to people messing with her teeth, completely understands. She's 41 and her wisdom teeth are STILL growing in. She's just extra careful to clean back where they're coming in and takes motrin for the pain.

So....yup.

mine have been since teh end of school last year. some days i wanna put my head in the oven, but most days it doesnt hurt too badly.

if there isnt enough room in your mouth for your wisdom teeth, they will push all of your teeth together making them crooked. is being scared of a little shot and cutting some teeth out really worth undoing all the work those braces did?

I just got my wisdom teeth removed Thursday. It really isn't that horrible. You get anesthesia and when you wake up, you have so much a novacane and gauze in your mouth and you don't feel a thing. I don't know how long they hurt coming in, because my dentist caught them in early stages. If it hurts, try putting icce packs on your cheeks. That help when my jaw feels a little sore.

I have one coming in, and I'm fourteen and a half. It hurts sometimes, but thats' because it's breaking through my gums still.

Every time I go to the dentist they say "next time we will set up an appointment to get them out" They keep taking x-rays and mine are simply just sitting there. I want to get them out though, I would rather get them out and go through a week of pain, than go through months of pain of letting them grow in.

i don't know hot long they been there probably for 2 years [15 now] but my wisodm teeth never really bothered me. i got my wisdom teeth pulled last week. im happy i got them pulled so i don't have to deal with them, it wasn't pain but just the pulling my cheeks out and holding my jaw down bothered me. i was also awake they gave me shots of anestehia so i wouldn't feel anything. the way they were growing were affecting my teeth because i still have braces so now my teeth won't be crowded or affected. and happily no more liquid diets:) unless something happens for my braces.

I had all four of mine taken out before they started to grow in, so I have no idea how bad/long they hurt while growing in. :upsidedow
But I would think that if they're bothering you, you'll prolly get them taken out pretty soon. :confused3

All four of mine are impacted. I get them pulled this winter. =[[

awk getting teeth out is no a problem for me!

i'v had eight out i think haha,
2 when i was four
4 for my brace
and 2 as a result of my old dentist screwing up my teeth:rolleyes:

its easy
all you get is a jag in your gum, yea its uncomfy but its not really sore, and they even have freezing gel that they can rub on your gum so you wont feel it anyway!

and after you get them out, its just slight discomfort for a wee while then its fine:)

although that last tooth i had out, i had to get stitches in my gum for because the gap was too big haha!

Mine have been fighting to come in for about 2 years now.

I have a high pain tolerance, though, so I don't even notice them.

And I've got a big mouth, so they won't even have to be removed! My dentist made sure to tell me that because while I don't mind needles (I actually like getting shots...*is weird*), I hate needles in my mouth. I've never had novicane for any of my fillings (3) and 1 of them should have required it, but I said no.

Uh oh. My mouth is not big at all, and my teeth are already crooked. I have to go in for more fillings next week so I'll bring it up then. (Stupid me forgot to take my antibiotic this week. Got to the dentist, "OH **** I didn't take my med! They couldn't do any work. : ( )

No, but my teeth are really bad. Fillings, root canals, and braces. This is just what I need

Years ago I felt them... doing something. They weren't coming in because I was too young, but I could feel them existing underneath my gum. Now I can totally feel one on the left side, and the rest of my mouth.. they're sorta there.
Mine probably won't grow in for a while, if they're anything like my brothers. He's almost 19 and they're only growing in now.
And if I'm like my parents, I'll probably get them removed.

If there isn't enough room in my mouth and it majorly starts to mess with my bite, then I'll worry about it then. But honestly? I have been through 3 brain surgeries. If I can avoid going through another (which, imho, getting teeth cut out is like a surgery), for something as minor and unimportant as this then I will.

I'm only going to worry about then, though. Otherwise, to me, it's really not worth the pain and stress of getting them cut out of my mouth.

I'm not sure when they started growing in. Maybe 15 or 16. I got them out when I was 17 and I'm glad I did too. They were growing SIDEWAYS and my mouth is small anyways, so there wasn't enough room for them. They wouldn't have come in though because they were impacted.

I am a huge adcovate of getting them removed. One of my teachers didn't have hers removed because they weren't bothering her. She was in a car accident where the car rolled over. Her wisdom teeth were pushed up into her nasal cavities. She's had 30 surgeries because of her wisdom teeth. Another person I know didn't have his removed and they grew AROUND his jaw bone and it had to be broken to get to the tooth.

I totally agree.

They put you under. And even if they didn't, they are so good at putting the shots in that you barely feel it. I've sometimes never felt them putting a shot in for my cavities.

I got mine out when I was 15. I had three and they were all growing in sideways and it hurt SO bad. I have a permanent retainer on my bottom teeth, and the wisdom teeth were pushing on it to make room. For me, the pain was unbearable. I would come home from school, do my homework really fast and then go to sleep so I wouldn't have to be awake through the pain. It felt like a mixture of double ear infections and someone punching me in the jaw. Every time I opened my mouth just a tiny bit my jaw would pop and sometimes got stuck (that happens a lot, but it happened almost every time I opened my mouth when the wisdom teeth tried to come in).

The surgery to get them out hurt, too. Well, the surgery didn't since I was asleep (for an hour and a half), but the aftermath did. They had to put stitches in my mouth and they wouldn't dissolve (they were supposed to dissolve after a few days, but it took them two and a half weeks). The holes got slightly infected and my mouth flat out HURT for 3 weeks.

I didn't have any choice of getting them removed or not. They were coming in sideways and I was NOT about to risk my teeth being severely crooked after 3 years of braces :rotfl: . The teeth also wouldn't have ever come in - they would have just kept pushing my teeth closer and closer together. It was bad.
