Ouch - Summer Electric Bill

Okay, I have a 2700 sq. ft house on the panhandle of Florida where it is God awful hot. I am also running a pool pump but I do have new windows. I keep the air set at 76 during the day and 73 at night. Our bill is roughly $250.

Geez. I thought mine was bad (relatively speaking) because it more than doubled, up to $147 from $70. That's for an 800 sq ft apartment that I work out of, so unfortunately I don't really have down time when I can have computers off, etc. And I start to suffer when it gets to more than about 72 degrees, so I just put it at the temp that makes me comfortable and deal with the consequences. Life's too short to be hot. I do use a fan during the day so that the heat put out by 2 computers and a separate monitor doesn't become overwhelming; that helps keep me from jacking the thermostat down to ridiculous levels.

Our's went up from 107 to 188.

Mine was $68.14 this month. We have 3200 sqf, and am running the pump on our water feature 24/7. We have the AC set around 78. We are lucky to have very low utility rates, as it is all generated by dams/rivers.

For July ours was $367.00. That is for a two story 3200 SQ ft house in Tampa. We have two AC units, downstairs was on 74 during the day and 72 at night, upstairs 76 during the day and 74 at night. I was happy at the cost since when we were in a rental that was one story 2400 sq ft it was $400 in August on 75.

Here's another "Amen" for the budget plan. It's the best thing since sliced bread!

We'll probably wind up owing PSE&G something next January for this summer. Last year, summer was so cool, we wound up with a refund in January. That was nice, but not typical. Still, it's great to pay the same amount every month for something as basic as utilities.

I have always specifically avoided the budget plan. I'd be concerned about breaking the feedback link. If my rates or usage went up, I'd like to see the cost quickly so that I could make the appropriate adjustments.
