i received my shot during my physical on Monday. Right Away my arm was really sore but I remembered this from last time. Now I have three reAlly sore lymph nodes in the general area. Looked at my paperwork and it seems some people stay sore for awhile. It says to use warm compresses and to take a painkiller. Anyone have this kind of pain for days?

That's what I figured. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain and I had to do a lot of driving today and the seatbelt was positioned right where it hurt.

My arm hurt for over a year after getting a tetanus shot. Just when I thought it was healed I would twist my arm the wrong way and it would hurt again for weeks. I had my shot in March of 2014 and it finally was fully healed in June. I will never get another tetanus shot as long as I live.

I understand where you're coming from, but I'd talk with your doc about that very seriously in nine years. The shot also contains pertussis and Diptheria vaccines. I know pertussis has been becoming a larger problem over the past several years, but I believe Diptheria has become more of a problem again as well.

I am a nurse that works in a hospital and we were recently told that Tdap provides lifetime immunity, it isn't necessary to keep getting it. So no more pushing it on patients :yay:!

Yeah tetanus soreness lingers for awhile. Was surprised last year at this :)

If DTAP provides lifetime immunity then why are kids expected to get boosters ~ 10 years? My middle schooler just got her booster and tetanus is definitely recommended every 10 years or so. and Pertussis DOES wane and need boosters. Not sure how outdated the info you were given @Kellydelly - I work in healthcare as well...At the very least titers should be checked.

A little over a year ago I was at the ball fields for an event I stepped on a dirty rusty needle (the sewing kind) and it went right through the sole of my shoe and about a half inch into my foot so I had to get one . I ran to minute clinic because it was a Saturday and they didn't have just tetnus only the Tdap. I not only had a sore arm for several days I also bruised and had a lump on my arm about the size of a silver dollar and I ran a fever of about 100 for almost a week. NOT fun.

Ugh. I almost feel a little feverish. Hoping to feel better in the morning. Still have sore and swollen lymph nodes.

definitely time for some advil. I hate taking meds but I lived on them that week.

I got a big, red, swollen, hot area (about 3" across) on my arm from my tetanus shot. And I couldn't raise my arm more than about a foot for about 3 days. After that, I was fine. I think I may have taken ibuprophen.

I haven't had a shot in over 40 years but I still remember the pain. I couldn't move my arm for at least a week and missed school for the whole time too. I ran fevers and was vomiting also. For my mom to keep me home I was really sick, she NEVER let us stay home from school. I was actually advised not to get it again by my doctor as I am probably allergic. Don't know if it's true but I took his word for it and never will get another one.

Tdap isn't supposed to be given more than once, but I don't think it's because there's lifetime immunity for tetanus. It's a booster itself. The tetanus booster has to be separate for adults.

My kid just got a DTaP shot and I was there. The technician said that could get sore around the injection. My kid also got four shots and wasn't too happy about it.
