Ouch...forgot! 7 month window opened YESTERDAY: Update: Happy Ending!

So I was planning to call and try for a switch--booked at 11 months, split stay, 2 BLT studios for Aug 21, 22, 23 and 2 BCV studios for Aug 24 and 25. I had to do it this way because we have more BLT points. We like the Epcot area better and wanted to switch the Aug 23 stay from BLT to BCV.

BUT when I called today there was only 1 BCV studio left for the 23rd
I didn't want to make the change and risk having our party split up for that 1 night...now I'm wondering whether it's worth it trying again and waitlisting for that 1 night.
Would they honor a request for the waitlist to go through ONLY if 2 studios become available so that our party doesn't get split up?

I don't think you can have a wait list set up that allows for them to do it for two rooms.

Is that room available as cash? Maybe you could change one room, book on points for the other room for the nights available and then book the first night as cash through MS. Then you can wait list and cancel the cash night if the points night comes through.

Sigh...I wish waitlisting weren't so complicated...will call them and see what they say today. yes, at least we do have rooms booked--the 2 BLT studios were the very last standard view available at the 11 month window.

Booking the one missing night on cash might be a really good idea...

I did that w/a BWV reservation...made it at only 5 months out...needed a 1 BR SV and a studio SV...got the 1 BR; couldn't get the SV studio, but cld get all but one night (in the middle) garden view...and the one missing night was available for cash...so I booked it (4 nights on points, one on cash) and WL'ed the cash night...took about 4 weeks, but the cash night WL did come through...

WL'ing for just one night gives you a pretty decent chance especially in late August..of course, the risk is having to spend that $300-$400 (give or take) for the cash room if the W/L doesn't come through...only you can decide if it's worth it...

Happy ending....I tried MS again this am and there was still just 1 BCV studio available. I decided to take a gamble, go for it and just waitlist for the other studio. Right after we finished making the change and booking the available studio we were starting to waitlist--then another BCV studio popped into the system!

So we got some pixie dust and have the booking we wanted

And hopefully someone is happy at picking up the BLT studios that I released!

I have a question, did you tell MS that you wanted to modify your resv? Or did you ask about availabilty first? I'll be switching from SSR to BLT at the 7 mo mark, and just want to keep abreast of how everyone is accomplishing their switch. Thanks!

I usually call and ask for availability. I do this even if I already have a W/L for what I'm asking for. Then if it is available I explain what I am trying to do.

I plan on using the same points (but will need a little extra), so as I've understood in the past, MS is not able to hold that new room, they would first need to cancel the existing resv. (something about having to change screens) However, if MS modifies a resv, they bring that screen up and then try to find availability to switch out what resort the resv is for. Am I understanding that correct? Or do I have it wrong? OP, how did you handle it? I just want to make sure I will do this correctly when the 7 mo mark comes around. Thanks.

I asked about availability first. Also the CM at MS said that she would put a hold on the studio I wanted before cancelling the one I didn't want--she said "That way you don't get left without a room"
