Did anyone else get the email that, effective today, OTU points are now $22/point? My mind was blown when I saw that because it seems steep to me.

And it looks like a few of us posted at the same time 🤣 Mods, feel free to delete this one.

The info is interesting and good to know. I wonder how many people actually find a need to purchase those points..... We've never actually bought them. What were they previously, around $18 or so?

Yes, I got it. They aren't ROFR'ing many resale contracts which leads me to believe demand for direct DVC purchases must be low. So they have to make money somehow, why not increase the OTU price point. Unless there are other things at play here.

$19/point. I got some back in 2020 when we were planning a trip to treat my in-laws.

I could not believe this either. That means renting points will probably increase as well. I would think renters want to match DVC
That’s my guess, too. Rental costs are about to go up. I wonder if the rental companies will also increase their rates going forward?

Not sure I see a correlation between renting and OTU - renting is driven by demand. I'm sure potential renters have done some negotiating at times.

I figured it would happen soon. However, I also wondered if OTU demand would be high this year due to last years borrowing restrictions being lifted.

I got the email too. I've bought them when I was a few points short for a reservation but didn't (or couldn't) want to borrow points.

I had to buy 1, one time use point a while back when they were only letting us borrow 50% of next years points.

I buy them a lot - sometimes because I don’t want to borrow and sometimes because I’m slap outta points!

That being said, no warning, not cool. Should have made it effective in a week or two, giving ppl the chance to buy their OTU points for the next year….
OTUP can be purchased only by calling MS while making an actual reservation, and they are only good for the use year that reservation falls into. To buy them “for the next year” would involve making a fake reservation with MS, then, after getting off the phone with MS, canceling that reservation and applying it to another reservation. A bit too convoluted to use routinely to stock up on points for next year!
