OTU Points Cost Increase

I don’t care about he $3 per point increase. I can count on one hand the times I’ve purchased them in the past 7 years. I just want to be able to purchase them online without calling. Any idea why we can’t do that??

Because the points come from many different resorts and contracts they have available to use, They have to be sure that the points they give you will work for your trip.

They also have to create a temporary contract in your account to hold them so there are a lot of steps…not to mention that by calling, they have your approval on a recorded line authorizing the purchase.

Still, that's a big increase, almost 16%

Did anyone else get the email that, effective today, OTU points are now $22/point? My mind was blown when I saw that because it seems steep to me.
Did they also change the amount of points we can buy?

Wondering if this will affect rental prices being DVC is valuing points 16% higher

I don’t think so because rental rates are tied to the cash room rates and demand for rentals.

The demand has to be there for rates to go up and right now, it seems to be softening

OTU points are only for owners who may be short a few points at the 7 month mark. I did see them as connected.

This seems fair. Also, if you are buying these every year, wouldn’t you be better off just buying a 25 point contract?

yes. I have an OKW contract that shows up on my account because that is where they took them from, I suppose. It has been many months and I have used that reservation already, but the OKW contract is still there.

I used OTUP for a reservation in Sept that came from OKW as well. It will stay on my account until Aug 2023 when my next UY worth of points become current. It will disappear from your account eventually.

That will usually stay until the start of your next UY..then it should drop off.

The OTU program is a benefit to both members and Disney. Disney makes some extra cash and members are able to top off reservations without much trouble. I don't get all the hand wringing in this thread. Prior to the implementation of this program in 2010, OTU points did not even exist - at any price.

34 contracts!! you are a beast! That is a compliment. I have a difficult time balancing out trips with my 2 contracts and ONE UY.
Well, most of my contracts are 100 points or less... I'm a fan of those small contracts. Easy to purchase with cash, and give me flexibility if I ever need to downsize.

If you want to pay more plus $600 in closing. Maybe one time points are better if you just need a few this one time.

Seems to me the horizon is 10 or 11 years as to my “best guess” for the break even mark.

$19. I bought 24 for this year...and then realized I should add on on 25 pts right before the increase from $207 to $217. So maybe this will push more people to do small add ons?

Edited to add: the 25 pts. we purchased was at VGF.
This was always my thoughts to buy a small contract but I have been guilty of buying OTUP.

Did your VGF purchase happen this year? I thought they had increased it to a 50 point minimum when they started reselling it.

Wish I could pick up another 25 at RIV but 50 is the minimum add-on according to my guide the last I checked about it.

VGF is still a 25 point buy in for existing members. CCV and RIV are 50+ minimums.
