Curious to see where the rental cost pp will go.
Yes we are the same. We have 150 direct points and used ours last year. I rented my OTU points to a friend this year, and borrowed ahead for ourselves. I planned to buy OTU next year to cover what we borrowed. Oh well! For those of us who only have a small amount of points, (125 direct), the ability to add a night or go with a 1 bedroom was simple a phone call away.
We have purchased OTU points on three occasions so far. We bought them @ $19/pt.
24 points per membership, regardless of how many contracts that membership has.Are we allowed 24 points total or 24 points per contract we own ?
It sets the expectations of owners of what the true value of points should be. If WDW says it went up then it is logical for rental rates to go up. I admit it is “emotional economics “ but emotions drive markets. But rentals are for non DVC members and have to be competitive against the cash rates. Not sure I see the correlation between OTU points, which are for owners to supplement when they are short.
We purchase OTU points each year due to small contracts. I wish they would have at least given a little time for war
34 contracts!! you are a beast! That is a compliment. I have a difficult time balancing out trips with my 2 contracts and ONE UY.24 points per membership, regardless of how many contracts that membership has.
I have two UYs and thus two memberships, and could buy 24 points on each. One has 2 contracts and the other has 32.

$3 is a big jump. Wasn’t it previously only $1 increments? Still I doubt it’ll change rental prices. The majority of renters have no idea about OTU. Cost along with benefits/disadvantages compared to other options is how we’ve decided maximum tolerance for rental pricing. If we rented out our points, the main thing I’d consider is our buy-in/dues costs and what profit makes it worth the effort. That value isn’t +$3pp because OTU went up $3.
Thank you. Very close! I remembered reading it somewhere but wasn’t easy to find again lol.I think it started at $14, went to $16, then $19 and now $22. So, this isn’t usual
And that $19 has been in effect for quite a few years.
$19. I bought 24 for this year...and then realized I should add on on 25 pts right before the increase from $207 to $217. So maybe this will push more people to do small add ons?The info is interesting and good to know. I wonder how many people actually find a need to purchase those points..... We've never actually bought them. What were they previously, around $18 or so?
Buy the points and go to Disney. A dozen eggs were $3.99 and always in stock. The last time we bought OTU points in 2022 I was surprised they were still $19/pt. Eggs in my town have gone up almost $3/dz, so I don't feel a lot of emotion about this.
Renting points are what the market will bear, and the market has been going down lately, not up. Just eyeballing the disboards rent/trade board you can see that rentals are lower than what they were a few months ago.I could not believe this either. That means renting points will probably increase as well. I would think renters want to match DVC
fwiw, $19 in 2017 inflation adjusted dollars would be $23 today so it’s hard to complain too much about this.Thank you. Very close! I remembered reading it somewhere but wasn’t easy to find again lol.
2010 was $15, 2017 $17, late 2018 $19, now $22.
From https://dvcnews.com/dvc-program/pol...4295-price-of-one-time-use-points-rises-to-19
“Disney Vacation Club is now selling its "One Time Use Points" for $19 each, an increase of $2 per point over the $17 rate which was implemented in October 2017.
DVC breaks down the cost as $16.89 per point plus $1.10 tax and $1.01 resort tax.
One Time Use Points were introduced in 2010 as a way for owners to buy a small number of points to complete a single reservaiton, rather than purchasing a contract add-on costing thousands of dollars. Owners can purchase up to 24 One Time Use Points per Use Year. The points can only be used toward reservations made 7 months prior to arrival. The fee is charged at the time of the booking and no refund is offered in the event of a cancellation. These points cannot be borrowed, banked or transferred.
The original 2010 cost was $15 per point, a rate that remained in effect for more than seven years until the 2017 price increase”
Shhhhhhh, you’re talking about some people’s raison d’etre…fwiw, $19 in 2017 inflation adjusted dollars would be $23 today so it’s hard to complain too much about this.
