Other WDW Resort "Cost"

I was looking into the DVC and wanted to know the approximate point cost for the other Disney resorts at WDW.

Can anyone give me a good idea of how the other results compare to the DVC resorts?

I understand that the points change due to demand and season.

I think you mean using your DVC points to stay at non-DVC WDW resorts? They do vary widely based on type of room, resort, day of week (Fri-Sa nights are more) and season. There is also no guarantee that the points will stay the same, they can and do increase year to year. (This doesn't happen at DVC. At DVC, if something goes up, something else has to come down - the total does not increase.)

That said. Using points to stay at non-DVC resorts is okay for variety but "costs" much more than staying at DVC for accomodations that are not as deluxe. But, it does give us the option not to "miss out" and to use our pre-paid points.

If you have a particular resort in mind I can be more specific but to give you a general idea --

Moderate resorts range from 14-40 points per night.
Deluxe Resorts (non-Concierge) range from 26-119 points per night. Concierge ranges from 85-158 points per night.

Ft. Wilderness Cabins run from 25-67 points per night.

In contrast to Pam's post...DVC resorts will be from 8-43 points per night for WDW/DVC studio rooms. I put this in to compare with a similar size room for the Deluxe resorts. That being said, you have to realize that DVC 1,2, and 3 bedroom units will be FAR larger than either the studios or Deluxe resort rooms.

mouseplanet has charts from 2000. Points do and have gone up for non DVC resorts, so don't use this as current state, more as a relative idea.

I pulled up some numbers the other day for another post, so they are fresh in my mind:

Adventure Season DVC (Jan, Sept, Dec 1-14)
OKW Studio: 8
SSR Studio: 11
BCV, BWV, VWL Studio: 12


Value Season WDW
Grand Floridian Garden View: 37

These numbers are for Sunday - Thursday stay.

Even a DVC 1B is cheaper than that same Grand Floridian room. Pretty high premium to pay for lesser accommodations. If you really had your heart set on another resort, most seasons you would probably be better off renting DVC points at $10 each and paying cash for the room.

There is a nifty "DVC Points Calculator" on this website that you can try out with some sample dates and locations (for the non-DVC resorts). Keep in mind that the number of points for the non-DVC resorts varies by season and by weekend/weekdays, just like DVC point charts.

I tried entering dates for the Disneyland Hotel (Paris) for a week in October, 2004, and the calculator wouldn't work. Was it something I ate?

The Paris hotels don't seem to work for me either.

From 0ct 1-Oct 19 the Disneyland Paris Hotel is 60 points a night Su-Th and 84 points per night for F-Sa. On Oct. 20 it goes up to 70/84

Just a bit of recent history. Mousesavers.com used to recommend that travelers consider renting points from DVC members in order to stay at non-DVC resorts! For the 2001 point charts, this actually could give significant savings compared to rack rates. With the 2002 point charts, there was a major increase in the points required to stay at non-DVC resorts, and that bit of advice soon disappeared.

Yes you are right! I hadn't realized that. It says LOS passes to Disneyland Paris and Walt Disney Studios for the maximum number of guests allowable in the room and/or registered (i.e., if you have 2 guests in a room for 4 you only get 2 passes).

The rate also includes breakfast each morning!
