I was hoping that my ankle would be better at this point, but it is ooking like I will need to use an ECV this summer. We are planning some time in Washington, D.C. when my dd goes up for a student conference. Has anyone visited D.C. using a scooter? I have checked on line & found some rental places, but I am wondering if anyone can share any experiences vacationing places other that Disney. WDW is very friendly for mobility-restricted travelers, but I would love to hear some other ideas. Other cities or destinations - any recommendations!

I have not done DC is a scooter but I have done DC numerous times is a wheelchair and have found it fairly easy to negotiate the city. The metro system is very accessible friendly, there are discount tickets for the metro and a listing of all accessible stations and where the elevators are located. We toured DC in 2004 for Very Special Arts International Conference and there were many individuals with scooters that had no real big problems getting around. Many of the toursit sites have accessible information on their websites. Also, there are some on street handicap parking sites near some of the monuments. The most recent monument the WWII monument is universally designed so everyone can enjoy the beauty of it. :)
