Yes, I know I might not be liked after this, but where else have people gone solo? I'm curious and wanting to (possibly!) try something on my own. If there is already a thread starting, please point me in the right direction. Thanks! :)

I've been in NYC alone, because DH was there and left for a business trip and I felt like staying awhile. It's such a great place to be alone in, because you never feel alone!!!!!! And also, there are lots of people doing stuff alone and you never feel weird.

Wow, just remembering that makes me want to do it again!

same places I would go with others.

Hilton Head, SC
Panama CIty Beach, FL - I own a timeshare here.
St Augustine, Fl - my brother lives here
Atlanta, Ga - my other brother lives in Stockbridge, Ga (south of At)

almost went to WIlliamsburg, Va - but mother decided to go with me at the last minute. I would have more fun solo - there were several things she just couldn't do here.

The only other place I've been alone is Sturbridge, Massachusetts, but I'm from that area. Next month I'm going to DL alone (is there a trend here?)-I've never been there, either alone or with others, so I'm more than slightly nervous.

Boston is a great city to sightsee solo, as are NYC and Washington DC. I've driven around a lot of the San Francisco outlying areas and Las Vegas area solo too.

I used to travel for business and always made time to look around.

I've been to Philipsburg-St Martin, Rome-Italy and Varadero-Cuba and all of them alone.

Philipsburg was nice because I could walk from my hotel into "town". Not that there was much there. (there was No Single Supplement at Great Bay for the time I went which was in June 2003)

Rome...was great. Because I could run all over town looking at all the ruins and the Vatican Museum without worrying about someone else being bored. But I would stay much closer to the center of all the sites than where I was.
The hop-on-off bus is the best bang for your buck because you can get around town without having to worry about conversing with the Taxi driver

Varadero...not much to see but it was great weather and a nice break. Need to go to a higher priced hotel though. (I think they have no single supplement at Sol Sirenas/Sol Coral...most of the time but try to get into Sol Coral because that is the busier hotel of the two and has most of the younger people)

I've wondered the same thing for years. About the only place that I could go and still have fun was Myrtle Beach SC. Then the prices started going up on their rates. Then my weight started going up, and after I found out that I could only walk down the beach about 10 or 15 mins without diving on to someone else's towel. "10 or 15 mins is about as long as I can suck in my gut"!!! Now I can stay at one of the value resorts at Disney and the rooms are cheaper! The main thing is to try new things while you're able. Also if you're unsure about someplace, ask someone here on the Dis and I'm sure you will get some info. to help you!........If you find a good place let us know!!! IJ pirate:

Thanks, everyone for the great ideas! I am thinking hard about taking a solo trip...hard because I'm getting my Masters and am not sure what I can afford...at least with Disney I can stay all day at the parks and transportation is included with the hotel, ya know? Please keep sending in ideas! :)

Pretty much anywhere and everywhere! Just be sure to take your common sense with you, and you'll be fine!

Los Angeles/Santa Barbara, California
San Diego, California
San Francisco, California
Sacramento/Fresno, California
(If I drank wine, I'd certainly consider a tour of Napa/Sonoma/Medocino wine country)
Medford/Grants Pass, Oregon
Seattle, Washington
Vancouver, BC
Toronto, ON
Las Vegas/Lake Tahoe, Nevada
Chicago, IL
Various locations in Michigan (visiting relatives, so technically not solo)
Albuquerque & Santa Fe, New Mexico
New Orleans, Lousiana
New York, New York
Washington, DC

Italy: Rome, Florence & Venice
France: Paris & Bordeaux region
England: HQ in London, but traveled quite a bit
Germany: Berlin, Bonn and numerous other places
Australia (on business, but extended trip 2 weeks for personal holiday)
Brazil: Rio de Janiero

I'm sure I've missed a few, but I learned very young not to wait for others to want to do things when I am able to do them! It rarely happens! If I had waited, I probably never would have traveled to 80% of the places that I've visited! :)

I have met several single females in Cancun. (btw I am female) I go once a year with a group of women friends and we "adopt" single women we meet. We dont do bars just hang around the all inclusive hotels and do activities sponsored with the hotel and invite singles to join us. The hotel arranges tours and things that i would feel safe doing alone

My brother in law has done cruises alone.

I've been to almost every state in the US, almost every province and territory in Canada, and almost every country in Europe. A lot of those trips were solo. I do travel for work now, but also really enjoy my solo trips for pleasure.

I've had great trips with friends, great trips with family, and great trips alone. It's a very individual thing - I personally enjoy the time alone, even if I am often alone by choice.

My list of places would be too long to list, but one can go anywhere alone and enjoy new experiences.

Best of luck!

I have done tons of solo trips...From Boston to San Francisco...Lots of places to go Mall of America (I Love to shop!) ...Reno..LakeTahoe...Niagra Falls...Vancouver..Toronto...Montreal...Lots of hockey cities..(I am a Hockey nut too!)...NYC during Xmastime..Anywhere you can dream of going you can go solo...I've even gone to England & Ireland solo although I have family there I do alot on my own!!!

I live in Staten Island, New York.

I go to the City alone alot. I love my solo day trips to the City. It really is a very easy place to be alone, because it seems like most people are solo. I love walking the Village, Times Square and just window shopping. It really is a great city with so much to do and see.

However, I have never done WDW alone. In fact I'm kind of impressed by those who have. This year I am going with my wife and daughter and I think I might take one day to explore on my own.

Hi,

I have visited the following places solo. Because I cannot drive and therefore cannot rent a car, I must plan my trips in terms of how I can get around without one.

Atlantic City, NJ at least 3x
WDW 3x
Vancouver, BC, Canada (visiting aunt, uncle, and cousins, September 20-30, 2004)
Las Vegas, NV February 25-28, 2004
Sacramento, CA (visiting aunt, uncle and cousins, May 8-15,2004).

Jim

I would go almost anywhere solo.
I have taken ski trips the past 5 years solo out to Colorado, seems alot of Floridians aren't crazy about snow!
I just returned from Wisconsin and Chicago.
If it is somewhere I want to go and I can afford it I go...........sitting around waiting for someone else to go could mean you won't go! To much to see and do in this world. I don't know if I would go overseas by myself. But I would do Hawaii.
