We just recently joined the DVC and will be going home for the first time at SSR! We plan on "checking out" other resorts in future years. How hard is it to get ressies at other resorts? We usually go to WDW at the end of August, but could change if other times are easier. We have a DD15, who we have to watch our school schedule for. Any suggestions or tips. I don't want to take away other peoples "homes", but thought it would be nice to stay in a few different ones. I know we have 11/7 months, but at 7 months, can you still get ressies at other resorts?

In August - especially the later part - yes - you should not have any problems.

Don't consider it "taking away other people's homes". At 7 months you have as much right to make a reservation there as any one else. I would suggest you make your reservation at your home resort as soon as you are sure of a trip and then at 7 months switch it to the resort you want. If there isn't an opening, go on one or more waitlists to switch. Most of the time you won't have too much of a problem switching but it depends on the time of year.

Have fun with DVC and welcome home.

I see you're going home soon, have a great time! We're checking out SSR for one night in December before our vacation at BWV (booked it @7 months, but it's a Saturday night and I didn't expect to not get it,) and that's a great plus for DVC we CAN go to the other resorts.

Plans change, and yesterday I was able to get a ressie at the BWV for the week before Christmas, yes, our son will be changing rooms if things stay the way they are, but still, he's going to have his own bed, and not the pull-out we initially thought he would use in the 2 bedroom that we reserved 11 months out.

I love Figment, your picture shows him at his most wonderfulness!

Thanks, everyone! I feel kinda stupid asking these questions, but they don't tell you all this when you buy. In the past, we have been like everyone else and "paid" for our stays. So points and timeframes are all new to me. We are really excited to be members to DVC. As you can see from my signature, we have been down often and could have paid DVC a long time ago. Now at least, our DD will be able to take her kids and maybe grandkids to WDW long after we are gone!

ps-what do you mean by booking home resort at 11 months and then switching 7 months out?

Yes-Figment is my favorite! I am a 48yo Figment kid!
I like to embarass my DD whenever I can!

You book your home resort (in your case SSR) at 11 months - to be sure you have a place to stay - then at 7 month you change it to VWL, BWV, BCV or OKW (your choice).

Lots of DVC members do this - it does tie up the home resort for those 4 months - but DVC really encourages their members to do this - so that you won't be disappointed. You will get a room at a DVC resort.

I love figment too!!!! So glad he is back!!!
