Other people's opinions on getting married at WDW.

When my fiance told his parents that we were getting married in WDW, the first thing that came out of their mouth's was "What are we going to do with the dog?"

When DF suggested a Disney wedding, that's exactly what I said to him  Pets are people with fur! Our baby does not do well in kennels, or with dog sitters, he always starves himself and ends up on an IV :sad2: I am still going to be REALLY worried about him, but realized I cannot revolve my life around the dog. So Disney wedding it is :goodvibes

HI and sorry to hear about that.. I havent had that problem everytime I tell people I am getting married at WDW they end up going crazy:woohoo: and ask me if they are invited... I dont know :confused3 I guess to each his/her own... I wouldnt worry to much what people think its your DAY:love:

We had alot of people upset with us and say that they would not go if it was at Disney. So we changed it to an Intimate wedding at Disney and didnt invite them.

GOOD FOR YOU...ITS your day...if they dont want to participate,,,then the loose out

i swear most people go to weddings just for the food & liquor....hey...its about the couple.

thats why i say do what ever you too want & the rest is a bonus;)

I've gotten the same kind of response even saying I am honeymooning at Disney. When people ask and I tell them that, they just kind of let the conversation drop. There are just some people that have lost the magical feeling.

I tell you, weddings can get so political! That is one reason why we decided to go to disney and have an intimate. There is no one invited, and the majority of people won't find out until we come back and have a reception. Everyone seems to think that they have the right to throw in their two cents worth when it comes to weddings.

LUNA99- Don't worry about narrowminded people! I hate when people do things like that. The reality is she was probably jealous and really she has NO IDEA of what its like in Disney. The only thing you can do really is feel sorry for people who are so unfortunate. We have been really lucky or not so lucky depending on your point of you (LOL) since telling everyone we are getting married at Disney the guest list has grown!

Who cares what other people say it's your day to shine!

Ha - when people say that kind of thing to me (usually my mum and dad who I'm sure are secretly jealous of my disneymoon!) I just say loudly 'thats right!'

I am not grown up and I reserve my right never to grow up!

Kids have much more fun.

I Completely agree with you all, we've had quite a lot of bad vibes about a Disney wedding

Most people have made a pathetic joke saying is it legal having Mickey mouse marrying you! or they probably think it's going to be tacky but i can't wait to see their faces when they see how good it's really going to be!! :rotfl2:

Alot of people have said that it's to far to go or made some silly excuse so we've just said you're loss and when they see the pictures and video then they will kick themselves as to what they have missed!!

:dance3:

I think a lot of people don't get the concept and you have to expect that there will always be comments. You need to ignore them and remember how important WDW is to you and your future DH.
We are so happy we were married in WDW and you will be too!!!!!

Attention all pet owners : Disney has animal kennel!!! You could fly the pooch down (or ride with you if you're driving) and stop by to see hiom/her during the week! Here is what the WDW site says about the kennels:

"With the exception of service dogs for Guests with disabilities, pets are not permitted in the Theme Parks or hotels, or on the Resort or Theme Park buses. They may, however, stay in one of the air-conditioned kennels, which are members of the American Boarding Kennel Association.

Pet Care Kennels are located adjacent to the Park entrances at Epcot®, Disney-MGM Studios and Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park. At the Magic Kingdom® Park the Pet Care Kennels are located adjacent to the Transportation and Ticket Center

Kennel fees are per animal, per night. Guests are required to walk and exercise their pets 2-3 times daily.

Resort reservations do not guarantee a kennel space for your pets; availability is first come, first served. No native wildlife or exotic species are allowed in the kennels. Prior to boarding, all Guests are required to show records of vaccination (for dogs: Rabies, Parvovirus, D.H.P. and Bordetella; for cats: Rabies, Panleukopenia, Rhinotracheitus and Calcivirus). "

:rotfl: Good on you. I bet they will be kicking themselves when your other guests tell them what a good time they had!

When DH proposed we thought about where we would get married and I told him I'd always wanted a Disney wedding. He wanted a small wedding. When I found the Disney Intimate I knew it was perfect for us.

I got some negative comments, but they were more because we only invited 8 guests. I actually had a cousin (a third cousin) not invite me to her wedding last year because she wasn't invited to mine - practically no one was invited to my wedding and she thought she was special? :lmao:

Now when I tell people we got married at Disney I get one of two responses: "Oh I love that!" or "Did Mickey marry you?" Sometimes I take the time to explain how each Disney wedding is unique and can be as much or as little "Disney" as you want (ours was very little "Disney") but usually I don't care what people think.

I have gotten the "Is Mickey going to marry you?" question too. From my experience most people seem pretty surprised when you tell them you are getting married in Disney World and don't know what to say.

I first got interested in a Disney wedding after seeing an episode of A Wedding Story where the couple got married in Disney World. I never thought my fiance would be interested in a Disney Wedding, but he was all for it. I think most people don't realize that you can have a beatiful wedding in Disney World that doesn't really have to include any characters or Disney elements.

The reason we have chosen the Disney wedding is because I wanted something small and didn't want to have to invite all kinds of people I didn't really know or care about. This way only our closest friends and family are coming and we will have more time to share with our guests throughout the week.

We have had objections to our wedding, but most people have come around. I have come to realize that those who really want to be there will make the effort to come. If people don't want to be there and have problems with my choice then I don't really want them at my wedding.

To each his/her own. I didn't do the DFTW, but I was married on property. Everyone had a blast. I met someone the other day who went to a DFTW in February, and she said it was worth every penny.

For the record, whenever someone asked me if Mickey was marrying us (which happened many, many times seeing as how we were engaged for 2 1/2 years), I would say, "No, no, no, you've got it all wrong! GOOFY is marrying us, silly, Mickey and Minnie are our witnesses. And Donald and Pluto are going to carry my train. I mean, you know Donald always gets the crappy gigs, right? Geez, try to keep up people!"

Some people thought I was serious, but then they quickly realized what a ridiculous question they had asked in the first place. In my opinion, if you ask a stupid question, you deserve a stupid answer! :)

This is the PERFECT response! I would be willing to bet that it will shut up 99% of the people who ask that question - no further discussion needed! ;)

I have gone to many a wedding that was in an interesting setting (on firetrucks, in movie theaters) I have never complained or made comments wether or not it was "my thing." Fact of the matter was it was not my wedding and I was only too happy to be a part of their celebrations. I hope I receive the same respect from the guests of my wedding (though grandma doesn't like it).

Jenny

I had it all too, with the Is Mickey marrying you comment too.
You know even my Mum & Dad were skeptical, and some of the other guests too, because they had all never been before and had a vision of this place, that they assumed to be very childish, but afterwards they all still rave on about how good it was, and just how elegant, fun and magical it all really was. We all had a fantastic time together and those memories will last forever.
If people are catty enough to comment in that manner, just say ' please explain what you mean....' put them on the spot and make them feel as though they just opened a can of worms.

Your guests will love it, and only those that have been to a Disney wedding can really appreciate what it is actually like.
