Other "extras" for kids

I'm going solo with my 5 year old. I have a great 8 days planned and since it isn't our first trip I wanted to load up on the "extras" instead of the park. She really isn't into rides (nor is mom) so we will have lots of time to do shows and other things that make up Disney!

So far I have the My Princess Tea Party, Cooking Adventures with Goofy, Pirate Cruise, Illuminations Cruise, Family Magic Tour, CRT, Chef Mickeys, Fantasmic Dinner Show.

What am I missing? Isn't there a tour in Epcot in The Land for kids?

Oh, she did the Wonderland Tea Party last time and decided not to do it this time as it "was for babies".

It all depends on how much you want to spend.

You may want to try the backyard bbq @ Fort Wilderness

You can always spend a day "resort hopping" we do this, we get on boats/busses/monorails and visit all of the resorts and look in their gift shops, maybe get a snack or a drink!

At CBR they do that embroidery floss with beads in the hair thing..hair wraps I think which can be a fun treat

The Land is close right now.

Theres a new tour in the MK for all ages, check on Deb's site www.allearsnet.com as I can't remember the name of it right now.

They used to have the Ice Cream Social at the Garden Grill.. but The Land was closed when I was there in January and we couldnt do it. Check and see if the Land and Garden Grill is open.. My kids have been really wanting to do the ice cream social.. and the one trip we make an effort to do it, and we couldnt! Try to get to where the candy lady is in Japan before she comes and get up front.. the candy suckers she makes are incredible!!!

Fort Wilderness has a camp-fire sing along with Chip and Dale. Then they show a Disney movie...it is usually around 8pm...best of all..it is Free

For the first time in my life I can say money isn't a problem... I'm totally planning on spoiling her this trip.... yep she will probably be the princesses throwing the fit when I finally say no to something. It's been a rough few years of her life and this is our treat to ourselves. Wish she was a bit older and we would do mom and daughter spa treatments or something.

I think the tour you are talking about is the Family Magic Tour? If so we have that scheduled already. I thought about HDDR but I don't eat meat or drink so that would be a waste for me.... BUT is the show worth the $50 itself?

Congrats on your trip. I know alot of moms who are too afraid to travel alone far with theirs, and I thinks its sad to give up such memories. I went two years ago alone with my three girls, 8,7 & 3, and it was amazing. Exhausting, lol, but great! Dont forget to try and wake Tink, and drive the monorail. DTD is great to walk around and shop. Get your hair wrapped and faces painted up. We had a blast, I hope you have a fabulous time.

I vote for this too! It is a great break in the middle of the day and the restaurant revolves in a circle (very slowly). Great interaction withthe characters. We liked this one a lot.

The Ice Cream Social is fun... but unfortunately the Garden Grill is suppossed to remain close for refurb. through something like July 7th (last I heard).

I don't think that even the main pavilion of The Land is scheduled to re-open until May or June. They've been working on completing 'Soarin', and making all the modifications to the food court area, etc... and it appears that the GG will be the last area in The Land to be brought back online. Sorry.

If you are the first to sign in (7:00 am ressies) at Breakfast with the Princesses, she will be honorary princess, get to open the door with her magic wand and be able to sit in the special princess chair. Priceless!!

I'm planning on having my princesses hair cut at the Barber Shop in the MK. I've never done it but it is suppose to be fun and they put a glitter hair gel in their hair, so your daughter might get a kick out of that!

Let's hear it for Moms going alone with kids! I had such a great time in October taking DD8, DD6 and DS4 that we're going back again in August. Most people think I'm crazy for even attempting it let alone doing it again. There's no better place to go than WDW!

I just wanted to saythat although your daughter is only 5 she may still have fun with the whole spa thing. Probably not a massage but my daughter and I (my daughter is now 8) go and get manicures to gether every once in awhile when we have our mother daughter day. She loves it. She feels so grown up and they usually paint rainbows or suns on her nails.

Keep Pin Trading in mind - went with friends last year and their 6 yr old refused to do any rides. The beginning of the week started off a bit bleek for them until they purchased a Lanyard for him and allowed him to start collecting / trading pins. It allowed him to fill time while the rest of the party went on attractions. Turned out he had so much fun doing it, all the other kids caught the fever as well and had a blast with it.

My DD 7 has been to WDW 6 times and has never even inquired about the pin thing until she saw her friend having so much fun and getting so much attention. Her Lanyard is now proudly displayed on her bulletin board and dreams daily of her next trade. Cast members are obligated to trade with you, that makes it a safe way for them to trade with others.

Be forewarned - to get started you are looking at about $30.00 minimum and future pins purchases start at about $6.00. We felt it was well worth it.

I agree about the spa thing. She may be too old for a massage, but I bet she would love a manicure. My DD 7 got her nails painted at her grandma's beauty parlor one day waiting for grammy to get done--I think she was only 4--and she still talks about it. Everybody made a fuss over her and how good she was and how pretty the color was that she picked--sparkly pink of course.

My DD loves horses but she is not allowed to horse back ride until she is 9. She takes lessons at home, so the whole pony ride thing would be "for babies". So we are going on a Carriage Ride--its only $30 for a half hour--never done it, but sounds like a nice, quiet way to end a busy day. We have it scheduled for our last night.

Have you gotten her a Guest of Honor Badge? I'm sure you've seen the posts--we didn't have them last time, but we have them for our next visit. They have one that is for best friends--its pink (of course) and it breaks into two separate name tags--one with Minnie and one with Daisy. Even though they put two names on it, they still only charge you for one tag.

BTW, I think what you are doing for your daughter is a wonderful thing. She deserves to be spoiled rotten and forget her hard times. And what better place? I'm sure the both of you will be much closer for this wonderful time together.

Have you thought about a day "out of the world" at Sea World?
They have a wonderful behind the scenes 6 hour family tour.
You could skip the FOTL access to the rides, but the rest is terrific.
