DS6 has a plantar's wart right on the ball of his foot. Is there anything over the counter that will get rid of it?

Yes,
My DS had one on the arch of his foot (thank goodness it was not where he walked on it.)

I used the over the counter stuff, like Dr.Scholls or Duo-Film.

Apply ONLY to the wart.
Let dry.
then cover with a band-aide
I swear by the Nexcare Comfort strip bandages..
Nothing else compares!!!

I also occasionally had DS soak his foot before treatment, to help things along.

this will take time.
The wart itself will turn black, and there will be a ring of white dead-skin around it. When needed, very gently remove some of the excess dead skin. The wart will eventually all be brought to the surface and die and fall off.

If you see progress after a couple weeks, it is working... If not, then you may want to see a Dr. to have it treated.

Duct tape.

You cover the wart with a piece of duct tape for 6 days, then take it off on the seventh day. Soak the wart, and then file it with a pumice stone or emory board. The next day, cover the wart with duct tape again and repeat the whole cycle. It supposedly takes 8 weeks or so, but all the information I've read says it is about 80% effective.

:thumbsup2 That worked for me

If you have good medical insurance a doctor's appointment is cheaper than the OTC stuff and it works better too. My DD had two big warts on her finger and they eventually came off with repeated applications of "beetle juice" from the blister beetle (aka Spanish Fly).

I occasionally get plantar's warts and warts on my fingers. My dermatologist told me to ignore them and eventually they would go away. Works for me. However, it does take a while for them to go away and they can get annoying. But they have always disappeared on their own for me.

My 6 yr old had 2 really nasty plantar warts on his left foot. One on the heel and one in the middle. I had warts as a kid and I had them frozen off and it hurt so badly so I knew that wasn't going to happen with my son. I did an online search and found a GREAT product that worked in about a week's time and the warts have never come back. :thumbsup2 It's called Amoils and here is a link to the website

http://www.amoils.com/warts.html

I've given this to my nephew as well who was covered in warts on his hands, arms and feet. He is 8 and he went through some of the freezing and cried forever so I had sil try this. Within 2 weeks he was wart free and none have come back! I was skeptical at first but with the unconditional return policy I decided to give it a try!~ I am so glad I did. We had NO luck with duct tape, vinegar, pumice stones, Dr. Scholls, Compound W or any other product except this one!!!!

My dd11 had a nasty one on the bottom of her foot. Took her to the Dr. He completely suprised me by telling me to do the duct tape thing. I tried to get him to freeze it off or something so we could just be done with it. He said nope, duct tape works the best. Tell that to a DD11 that she has to wear duct tape on her foot in the middle of summer, yeah right :rolleyes2 . We finally bought the OC freeze it yourself stuff (I think it is by Dr. Scholls) We had to do it a few times, but it worked.

DD had some on the bottom of her foot that were bothering her. Our dr's office referred us to a local compounding pharmacist who makes a stronger version of compound W. She had to put it on at night and cover it with strips that contained more of the same chemical. It worked in about 2 weeks. They will ship it anywhere. Let me know if you want more info.

My son had a regular wart on his finger and our pediatrician recommended the duofilm. It worked for us and the package says it works for plantar warts as well. I didn't like using the patches that came with it though. They got all dirty and "gummy". We ended up using duct tape (on top of the medicine) or a regular band-aid. It did take several weeks to heal completely.

Our ped recommended the duofilm & also a Mediplast bandage (you may have to ask for this at the pharmacy counter).

Mediplast worked best for us. You leave it on as long as it will stay, covered with another bandage (during showers, swimming, etc). It eventually pulls the roots right out.

Urgh, plantars warts. I got these a few times in college, always on my heel. Most times the Dr. Scholl's plantars warts kit worked to remove it--it took a while, but worked.

One time though, I had a very painful one that I could not get to go away. I waited until the end of the semester to have it looked at, and ended up having to have it removed at the doctors. It was so deep they could not freeze it off and I had to have it cut out. The needle for the painkiller is by far the most painful thing I have ever experienced--worse than broken bones, wisdom teeth out, etc. They pushed it all the way though my heel, depositing the painkiller through the foot.

I only share this gross story with you to emphasize that if the duct tape or wart kits don't work, don't wait too long to take him to have it looked at. If I had not waited so long I would not have had to get that procedure.

Compound W (if they still sell the stuff...it's been a long time).
