We are decorating the Christmas trees today. I got me wondering. Our decorations ate eclectic. Collected over my lifetime. Many different types of things. Many Disney included of course. But many other themes as well.

So do you have a single theme or lots of different things?

Kim

I've got a whole bunch of stuff. I have a lot of Disney ornaments, of course, and quite a few from other places we've traveled. I have ornaments my mom has given me and some I inherited from my MIL after she passed away. I also have a bunch of Hallmark ornaments - I buy those from time to time if I find one I really like.

Maybe if I had multiple trees, I could do a themed one with just red, or just Disney, or just angels, etc. Since we do just one main tree, we use all the ornaments we've collected throughout the years. I don't think I could leave off sentimental favorites just because they were the wrong color or type.

We do have a small tabletop tree in white that we decorate in just red and silver each year- I guess that counts as a theme tree...

All sorts of stuff. No themes for us.

We just decorated our tree this afternoon. We have an artificial for the first time in several years! It's a lot thinner than trees we've had in the past so we had to be picky about what to put on. There are certain ones that must go on.

We have a set that we got for a shower gift that have to be included. DMIL always used to get us Swarovski or Waterford crystal ornaments each year so those are on. Each of the girls has their first Christmas ornaments and my mother buys DD1 the Madame Alexander ornament for Hallmark each year and DD2 the Fairies Hallmark series. We also have some Windows on the World ornamants and Red Sox and Patriots ornaments. The girls each have a little tree in their rooms. One was pre-decorated and the other DD1 did as a project last year. I also have several from growing up and ornaments that were my in-laws. Everyone is well represented on our tree!

Have fun decorating everyone! We're off to see the Disney trees on Wednesday!!!!!:santa:

We have three sets of Christmas Tree decorations that we rotate.

Why three sets? Before I met Valerie, I had my own decorations/lights that were all white (on a green tree). Val had her own set of multi-colored decorations/lights. And between the two of us we had acquired enough Disney ornaments that we could do a third, all-Disney tree.

I grew up Jewish, so most of my ornaments are my new husband's. We have gotten some together, however, including a Cindarella castle ornament, and Snow White, Sleepy, Happy, Grumpy, Dopey, Sneezy, Bashful & Doc.

The latter eight ornaments mean a lot to us because my late father in law wrote the Snow White live action show that premiered at Carnegie Hall.

Ours is very eclectic. We've got Hallmark Ornaments, we've got ornaments from traveling, we've got ornaments I've made, we've got ornaments the kids have made and we have ornaments that were given to us.

We have so many ornaments that they all can't fit on 1 tree but we only have 1 tree so we try and rotate out the Hallmark ornaments and ornaments we got as gifts.

I have 7 tubs of Hallmark ornaments that are not on the tree right now and another tub of regular type ornaments that didn't get picked for the tree this year.

We have the ceiling height so I'm thinking of getting a 10 foot tree next year so we can put more of our ornaments on it. Our current 7 1/2 footer just isn't cutting it and since half the lights don't work and I had to string on lights this year it's time for a new tree.

I have one themed tree in the dining room, (winter theme--skaters, snowflakes and such, all done in varying shades of aqua, white and silver but the family room is eclectic, with ornaments that all have special meaning from my childhood, places we've been, people we've known. I love taking that trip down memory lane each year.

Totally ecclectic...like most others have said. Although, I feel like we have distinct categories.

- Hallmark (mostly from my DMiL and DH)
- Waterford/Hummell/other collectable brands
- Our First Christmas (we got married in December and got about 8 as gifts)
- Childhood stuff (to include home-made items, as well as others that DH got as a child living in Germany)

I love our tree!! It went up yesterday, as did all of the house decorations, and I'm so glad it's done.

Ours is 100% Disney, including angel Minnie on the top from the Christmas store in downtown Disney. My aunt and uncle gave it to my kids, saying it's a tribute to Mommy, so it's extra special when we put it on top.

Our live tree in the family room has a little bit of everything. We have a very sparkly silver tree in the living room that is all disney and a few glitter (solid color) ornaments to fill in.

Some years back, my theme was "a Black and White Xmas." My small carnivores took it on themselves to decorate the tree with...themselves:

That put and end to the tree really quickly.

My Christmas tree is decorated in Disney theme. I began "collecting" ornaments in my 20s and each year I would buy an additional one or two.

I will share a funny story about the ornaments (well one in particular):

It was my husband (Aaron)'s first year teaching 8th grade and for a present he received a paper mache lion ornament. He came home from work and placed it on the tree. I came home from work and zoomed in on it and announced that it wasn't Disney and couldn't be placed on the tree. Aaron just looked at me and spent a couple of minutes trying to figure out how to get this ornament on the tree. He looked at me, yelled "Lion King" and proceeded to place the lion back on the tree. Now it looks nothing like the lion from "Lion King", but I laughed and the ornament was left on the tree.

Well, each year, I put that stupid looking ornament on the tree because I just laugh about the whole incident every time I see it. That is what ornaments are for...the stories...right....:confused3.

Happy Tree Decorating to all who are decorating their tree or who have already finished.

disneym2m, that's just funny!!:lmao:

I have a tying theme of blue, purple and sliver, but the really special ornaments go on the downstairs tree! our vacations, Disney, a few childhood favs, and lots of crystals! upstairs the kids tree has all nonbreakable and series ornaments, like the Simpsons, Disney characters, and the ornaments they get each year. the girls have their own girly tree in their room with a great Tinker Bell topper that I just love!
I'll have my tree up here in a couple of days! we are finishing up the outside lights this weekend!

I absolutly love this picture! I have two black & white sister cats. We have had to put the tree in a room with the door closed because they did the same thing as your furries!

Ours is "Our life in Review" We have ornaments from our travels (lots of Disney:), momentous occasions (children, first house etc), hand made ornaments from our DS's. St Nick brings everybody an ornament each year that represents something important to them from the previous year.

We decorated our tree this past weekend and it was fun seeing/remembering the fun times.

I'm not sure mine is a theme but....I have a beautiful artificial tree, with white lights. I have four sets of lights wired together and plugged into a light sequencer that go in the center of the tree, then 2 other sets that stay on steady. For decorations, I use mainly red and gold...with a few special ones (including my mickey on a star). I put candy canes on the tree, red bows, small bells, and gold tinsel..on top is an angle. I love watching TV with just the tree lights on.

For us I cannot imagine doing a theme tree at this point in our lives. Our ornaments are all sentimental of a special time or event or are made by us (when we were kids) or our kids. Decorating the tree with these is so fun as we talk and reminisce about the ornament as it goes to the tree.

Someday when the playroom turns back to a living room I want to do a second themed tree.

Our is not themed either. We have mostly ornaments from our various travels.

One funny story- me and DH were in London shopping- more like browsing in Harrods and we came accross this beautiful hand painted christmas ornament. It had all the scenes of London. We snached it up, paid and not until we got back to the hotel did it dawn on us that we just paid $60 US dollars for that one little ornament- it was 29.95 pounds. So needless to say it gets wrapped in bubble wrap, placed in a solid box with peanut packing foam and then placed in another box. We call it the most expensive ornament ever.
This year we are just putting up the tree and then when we get back from Disney we will decorate it with the new ornaments we are planning on buying.
