OT - Yard Sale Pricing Question

Do we put little stickers with prices on everything, or just have a price in our heads and see what people will give us?
Deffiently price everything. You can price groups of items also. Say a box of paperbacks with a sign that says "Paperback books 50¢ each"

I've seen it both ways, with and without stickers. Another format is tables with the same 1 price for every item on that table. $1 for a hardcover book is pretty standard. 50 cents is common for paperbacks but there have been plenty of times I've seen it at a dollar for paperbacks also.

I will just say this.....I like seeing prices. I don't like the, "What would you like to offer me" tactic. I feel better with set prices and then asking for a bit of a discount. It gives me a ballpark as to what you are looking for and if it is even worth the "bidding" war.

Thanks for all of the input! I think we will probably put prices on all of the bigger things, and then maybe put smallish things like books, any clothes, small toys, in bins with a general prices. Now I need to find my little stickers...

You should also advertise and, if possible, tie it in with something else that is going on in your area. For instance in my town there is an antiques market the third weekend of every month in a building that is right by our subdivision, so people entering or leaving have to go past our entrance to get to it. Putting your yard sale sign at a point where those people can see it will pull in a lot of people who wouldn't otherwise travel to stop in.

Also make sure you have good directions and signs at points where people have to turn to find your house. Good luck with your sale.

To the other that asked....try to put a price on EVERYTHING! I have yard sales every year and make ton! When I am setting up, I put everything with a price out first...I usually have sooo much stuff that I can't get it all priced. If I don't get a price on it, I leave it until I can & tell people they are welcome to go through the unpriced stuff and make me an offer.

Yes, please price everything. Batch pricing (all books 25 cents) is fine, but I am NOT going to ask you "how much is this?" I'm just going to turn around and leave if I can't tell how much anything costs.
