OT: WWYD: Ebay buyer won auction 2/16 wants to pay 12/23? UPDATE post 23, SHE PAID!!

Ebay will give you MUCH MORE than just ONE WEEK to ship an item to a buyer. If she pays for it on 12/23 and you leave on 12/23 and don't come back until 1/2 then you can mail it on 1/3. She will not have filed a Paypal dispute by then I am sure and even if she does, they give you ample amount of time to ship the item.

And a SUPREME act of faith. The only way to deliver the doll before Christmas is to ship early in the week... before the winner pays. If you want to wait until the winner pays, you're forced to do an "overnight, guaranteed Saturday delivery"... watch the shipping fees skyrocket.

I would email the buyer what you suggested, that you're willing to wait until the 23rd to accept payment if they are willing to wait until you return from vacation for you to ship it. If they're not, and assuming the PP are correct about ebay policies, I'd have the doll boxed up, addressed, fully ready to ship. When payment is received, drop it by the Fed Ex/UPS office on the way out of town. I don't know what the ebay rules are regarding how long a seller has to ship after receiving payment, but I'd tell the buyer NOW that you'll be out of town and unable to ship if that's what you want to do.

My recollection is that PayPal gives you 3-7 days from payment to ship out the item to a confirmed shipping address.

Thanks everyone for the input--All's well that ends well.
I emailed her this message:
"Is there any way you could pay on the 22nd? I'm going out of the country on the 23rd and will be away until Jan 2, so really want to get the item shipped out before I leave."
She replied:
"Thanks anyway. I just paid so you can ship out tomorrow. Thankyou once again. Have a nice day. :)"

So, big sigh of relief, the $$ is in my Paypal account and I won't have to relist!

Now I'm glad she paid and was planning to ship out tomorrow anyway--but does it strike you as a little demanding to expect immediate shipping when she was asking to put off payment until a week after the auction end?

I would mail it since it could be a Christmas gift BUT I would pay for insurance and delivery confirmation in case she is a scammer. I am assuming you were paid a decent amount for the doll, so personally, I would take the money out of my paypal ASAP. Then, I would mail it with both the insurance AND delivery confirmation so I have proof of shipping and receipt and coverage in case it is somehow damaged. I hate to sound skeptical, but I had this happen twice...once with a buyer who was truly a good buyer but once with someone who demanded quick shipping after their untimely payment and then as soon as they received the notice from me that it shipped, they filed a dispute with paypal. Lesson learned...I don't ship w/o delivery conf. anymore!

Depending on what it sold for, you might need signature confirmation too!

I'm glad you got it all resolved and she paid without much hassle. I wouldn't worry much about her comments. She's either a pain in the butt person to deal with, or it's a Christmas gift and she's just worried about it getting there in time. I completely agree with the poster above. Make sure you send it with delivery confirmation, at the very least. Then give her the tracking number once it's shipped. That way she won't bug you asking if it's shipped or where it's at. She can figure it out herself.

If you print the label at home, delivery confirmation is automatically added, with the option to add signature confirmation and insurance. It's only 19 cents through ebay or 89 cents in the post office.

Plus there's a discount for printing online.
