OT would you use a pink carseat for a boy baby?

I have to be honest, I would never put my son in a pink car seat! There's gotta be a cheaper cover you could find....don't you know anyone at all that has an old graco they're not using??? Heck, I've got one in my garage I'd give ya!!!

I just checked ebay, buy it now for only $16.95!

That's cute - and if eBay has it, then there has to be department stores that have it as well.. I would check Toys R Us (are they still in business?); Walmart; Target; JC Penny; Sears; etc. - and it might be found cheaper.. (Plus no S&H if it's a store that is close to the OP)..:goodvibes

Of course, colour is not important. I really don't get the whole genetic/colour segregation that society has. Honestly, it's beyond silly to assume that the colour of something is going to change a baby's personality. It's just a colour...

Our DS2 favourite colour is pink - he has pink clothes among other pink things, he plays with princesses too. My DD6, conversely loves blue and brown. We have taught her that people have a problem with colour, but it shouldn't be her problem.

I really don't get the whole colour issue thing at all, so I would definitely use the seat. My son frequently sits in his sister's Mac XLR that is brown/pink. I got the colour of stroller that I liked, and it had nothing to do with the kids. It will be his stroller one day, and if he won't sit in it, then he will be walking.

Good luck, Tiger

Free = colorblind. :thumbsup2

There's no way I'd spend so much money on something new for cosmetic purposes only when the item already owned is perfectly safe and serviceable.

That being said, if it bothers your DH, ask around and see if any friends or family are handy with a sewing machine and could whip up a quick cover.

please don't do that
you should only get a seat cover made by the company because they have been crashed tested

I would not put a baby boy in a pink car seat that would kill me. The only pink on my boys is a cloth diaper which no one can see :rolleyes1

Why would a cloth cover need to be "crash tested"? It's only cloth - not the car seat itself..:confused3

IF it really bothers you can you use some RIT dye to change the color? I would use it anyway. No matter what your child is wearing people ALWAYS seem to call them the other gender.

DD was head to toe pink, pink blanet over and pierced ears, still told I had such a cute little boy!

I was thinking the same. Soak it in some RIT, black or brown and poof no more boy color.

Totally agree. And there's a huge double-standard - it's okay to put little girls in blue, but it's not okay for little boys to be in pink.

We purposely bought gender neutral gear for our DD, in case the next one is a boy and because we just like it better. Her room decor is also gender neutral (greens & browns w/ monkeys) because that's the set we liked. Some of the girly bedding sets are pretty, but the neutral ones & ones meant for boys are more fun & playful.

People sometimes think our DD is a boy if she's not dressed particularly girly, since her carseat is red & brown, but it doesn't bother us. Sometimes even if she is dressed in pink or a dress we get, "Oh what a cute little boy!" because of the red carseat.

Just wanted to get some opinions here...we are having baby #4 in Oct. The infant carseat I have is a pink pattern. DH doesn't really want to use a pink carseat for his DS, and originally I didn't want to either.

However, after calling Graco and asking how much a new cover would be (it's around $60 +Shipping). I also checked ebay and no luck in finding covers. I just think it's a waste of $$$.

I plan on using a JJ Cole Bundle Me so only a little bit of the carseat will be visible anyway. Plus anywhere we go, people will most likely see we have 2 DD's and understand where the pink is from.

Plus, I would rather save the $$ to put into a toddler seat for new baby when he is big enough.

I guess I am just trying to save a little $$ so we can finally get back to Disney next year after 3 long years!

What would you do? Thanks!

By #4 I'd just use it. And FWIW I had a custom made cover made on Ebay... It was for a Regent, but I know they make other ones. Search custom carseat cover, or PM me and I'll find the contact info.

I'd be careful with this, if you do make sure it's rinsed and rinsed and rinsed... don't want a dyed baby

Use the pink seat. If not, .....

Skip the RIT dye and try the Dylon dye that is as Walmart and most fabric stores. It's about $3/package. It rinses well and no rub-off. I'd let the cover set in the dye for about 6-8hours though, at least.

Geez.. I'm not talking about cutting off the straps in order to put a cover on the seat. I'm also not suggesting it should be anything that is just thrown over all the equipment that would interfere with its use. Several companies make car seat covers and I'm sure anyone who's handy with a sewing machine can do the same.

I'd use the tulip spray on fabric pain to diminish the pink. you can even dab it on with a sponge instead of spraying it. I have used it on a number of projects and haven't had it run. From a financial standpoint, I'd want to use the pink seat, but I'm sure it would drive me crazy and I'd have to get a neutral seat for a baby boy! I had a gray infant seat and stroller with DS, just in case I ever needed it again.

I was just reading a magazine thats hwoed some famous star wiht his son in a bright pink carseat. It was his first kid so it's not like he had a recent baby girl or couldn't afford a blue one. I don't think it matters so much. Think about how long you actually used it the first time around (6 months maybe) and then put the extra money towards the reversable one.

Thanks for all the replies...I am really leaning to just using the pink one. I found a JJ Cole Bundle me on amazon for $20 (reg price $50) so I was pretty psyched about that! :goodvibes

That will cover most of the pink and the rest of it, oh, well!

We have a DS as our oldest and my next two DD used his blue seat. But then it was expired so I bought a pretty pink one for my last DD (thinking she was our last kiddo).

Surprise, #4! :rotfl:

We are so happy about another one, but that's why I bought the pink thinking I wouldn't need to buy another one. It was nice having DD in a pretty pink seat!

I was thinking about dying it but I am afraid the dye might be toxic? Anyone know?

We got a blue Bundle me cover so at least that is blue!;)

Thanks again for all the responses.
:)

I would.... when ds was little,he wore pink hand me down snow pants, when we moved, our new neighbors complimented us on our cute little girl:lmao: I figured he didn't use them much, and for a car seat,I wouldn't stress

I wouldn't put him in a pink carseat, but I would have never bought a pink carseat to begin with. :)

I'd use it. My DS used a beige, pink, blue & green one with a ruffled canopy on it. He also used purple snow pants last year in a pinch in the back yard & he was 6. No biggie to me, no biggie to him.
