Hi,
Does anyone have any hotel suggestions for Wildwood Crest, Looking for a family place . My kids are 3&4 . Just looking for a quick get away. Thanks for any help.

Do you want to be close to the Boardwalk? I work in Wildwood and there are alot of nice Hotels in the Crest. . Some are beach front and a few in Wildwood Crest are right near the boardwalk. The Adventurer Motel is at the end of the boardwalk.

This is our first trip so any suggestions would be great. How is the vacancy rate?

Call the Wildwood Chamber of Commerce. They can give you a list of the good ones. I stay at the Royal Canadian when I go. This one is in the Center of Wildwood right off the board walk. The Sunflower is really nice(also right off the boardwalk.) I have never stayed in Wildwood Crest. But call the commerce they are very helpful.

May I also so suggest to make sure you eat at Mack's pizza. It is the best pizza!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I drive down all the time (1 1/2 hour) just get pizza.:lovestruc Have a great time!!!

:goodvibes Macks Pizza is my husbands favorite too. There is one open year round on the Ocean City boardwalk, we usually go there on Sundays for pizza and a stroll on the boards. :)

This time of year you will need to call and make reservations. There are alot of motels in the Crest. The Bristol Plaza is a nice one also. If you are coming on a weekend your choices may be limited. There is a Hotel in North Wildwood with an inside water park, Montego Bay. I think there is a web site you can look at it online. :)

Yum... Mack's Pizza, it's 7:30 am and I want Pizza!! lol...

Wildwood is great... just remember that most of the hotels are old style simple, clean rooms. They are unique to the area and the Chamber of commerce is trying to preserve that look. If you want to stay in Wildwood the Star luxe on Rio Grande and Ocean was redone a few years back and looks nice. I go down to Wildwood a few times a year for cheer competitions and the convention center/boardwalk is right across the street and it's only a few short blocks down from where the boardwalk "action" starts.

I LOVE it and there is nothing like anywhere. If you google Macks Pizza there is a website showing when there were 3 locations on the Wildwood board walk and all the pictures. It brings back alot of memories for me.

The convention center is so nice now. I used to live summers on Burke Ave when I was a kid. I miss it so much. My parents now live MD but I have some family in Rio Grande. Now I want pizza. :yay:

When I was very young we used to stay at the Caprice on the corner of Roberts and Ocean. The place still looks exactly the same!! Do you remember when they used to have the trampolines across from there? I guess it was located in what now is part of the convention center parking lot.

You used to be able to rent trampoline time and that was always one of my favorite things to do. Of course liability being what it is.. they took them out in the late 70's.

Oh.. Also to OP.. get yourselves some Douglas Fudge! It's on the Boardwalk around the 22nd block.. It's the one that has the plaid box with the Scotty dog on it. It's my all time favorite fudge! :) I LOVE that the box and logo has not changed since the beginning of time.. We used to take my grandparents with us when we were kids and at that time going to the Jersey shore was still a pretty big deal.. My grandmother would buy fudge for just about everyone she knew back home! I can still see her walking down the boardwalk with the two big plastic shopping bags with the Scotty dog on it! :)

We like the Adventurer too (www.adventurerinn.com) because it's super close to the boardwalk, the pool is nice and the rooms are clean. We also like the Port Royal very much - much more "upscale" feeling if you can even use that term for a Jersey Shore Motel - but way more pricey. We've also stayed at the Attache, (fine) Pier 6600 (nice but way down at the opposite end of the boardwalk) The Waikiki (nice but pricey for the fake palm trees) The Fleur De Lis (nice but was a long time ago) and I've heard good things about The Pan American though I have not stayed there myself. Hopefully that will get you started!

We go almost every year, and have stayed at lots of diffreent places.
Keep in mind, they are not "resorts" by any stretch of the imagination. But for the most part you'll find clean accommodations, decent pools (some heated) free beach access and a fun boardwalk.

Silly as this sounds, with little kids try to stay somewhere where the pool is on the south side of the building so it's sunny there in the afternoon. If the pool is on the north side it's usually shaded by the building and the water could be chilly, not to mention the kids when they get out of the water. BTDT. Brrrrrr.

And along with Mack's Pizza (yum!) I also have to recommend Curly's fries!

We have stayed at a few Wildwood Crest motels, and so far, we like the Adventurer Motor Inn the best.

The have a web site you can check and/or read reviews on Tripadvisor.

If you have never been there...

The Wildwoods have a lot of "Mom & Pop" owned, 2 - 3 story MOTELS, (considered part of the charm for some people.) The Adventurer has interior hallways/doors and rooms with private balconies. (As always, oceanfront rooms are more expensive, and poolside rooms, IMO, at least on the lower floors, would be more noisy.) The Adventurer is the first hotel off the Boarwalk, making it in a quieter, family friendly area, (as opposed to motels on the boardwalk, which would actually be Wildwood, not Wildwood Crest) but still convenient to the boardwalk... you can stroll (or jump the tram) without moving you car.

There are 2 other Wildwood Crest hotels we liked, but they are more expensive and not located near the boardwalk... (not a big deal, but one night we returned late and there was no parking spot available. We had to park out on the street, a couple of blocks away, and when we complained to the owner in the morning, he said we should have parked in their one and only handicap spot!)

Mom2aredhead, mentions just about all the top Wildwood Crest h/motels, in her post.

Douglas Fudge (now I just gained 5lbs thinking about Vanilla Nut fudge)

I also LOVE Sea Shell Ice Cream (it was such a treat to go and get bubble gum ice cream)

I remember the park went there often. I also remember the drive in move (now shoprite) Diamond Beach Water park (now Condo's) It has changed so much But it is nice again.

The only thing I hated was the LONG walk to the water on the beach. Now I see the have trams to take you out or wood walk ways.

Hey "Watch the tram car"

These are very good recommendations.

It depends how 'fancy' (an oxymoron, really for seaside motels in Jersey) you want. The prices they charge for places that are more 'upscale' such as the PanAmerican referenced above, are really outrageous IMO. When we go we are just happy to have a beachfront location (no walking blocks with little ones) that is clean and has a heated pool.

This is peak season so do call ahead as many places will not have vacancy.

The motels closest to the Boardwalk would really be considered the very tail end of the 'Crest'. The motels such as the Adventurer Inn, which we did two years ago and was very nice, are MUCH further from the water. I found this a HUGE issue for us personally, especially with little kids. Although the location was wonderful - right at the end of the Boardwalk (no cars to have to park to go there) - we chose not to return because the beach was sooooo wide there that getting to the water with 2 kids and all our gear was a big issue. They have little shuttle type trucks to get you back and forth, that's how far out the ocean is. Then to return to the hotel for lunch and back. I prefer being on a narrower stretch of beach on the 'Crest' (farther away from the Boardwalk) so that we can very easily go back and forth to the room if necessary. I know many people tell their kids to just pee in the ocean (at least I know plenty) but I've always thought that was icky and have always taken my kids back and forth to the room when nature calls. This location is just perfect for us. And even though we always go peak season time in early August we never have any issues finding parking in the evening when we want to go to the Boardwalk. Some days we get lucky and find a spot on the street, otherwise there is always a spot to be found in a parking lot. Just factor in the cost of about $8 - $12 for the night.

Last year we stayed at The Lampliter (lampliteroceansideresorts.com) and it was great. Very reasonably priced and extremely clean. Also the Astronaut Motel is very nice as well, but it always seems to be full. There is also The Bal Harbour (more pricey) that I wished we could stay at when I was a kid. But I've never seen the rooms, so I don't know if it has deteriorated inside since then (the eighties). I also stayed at the Royal Hawaiian many, many moons ago (early nineties) and it was fine then. Don't know about now.

Hope this helps. I Love Wildwood Crest!! Our family had the most awesome vacation there last year!

I would also recommend Ocean City if you are looking for a south jersey shore experience.. It's a real family town and the boardwalk there is great for the little ones. The beach is not as long as Wildwood but similar packed sand. Just a suggestion. :goodvibes

Sorry - I can't help with Motels in Wildwood but - this thread has me missing Wildwood, Cape May and No. Cape May!!! I grew up down the Shore, my grandparents still have a house in No. Cape May - 1 block from "The Cove" ( I know the name has changed) and 7 blocks from the Ferry -

But thanks for the trip down memory lane!!!!
