OT Wii ? - Guitar Hero or Rock Band?

I have 2 girls - 7 and 10. Looking for the whole set up (drums, guitar, etc).

Which would be better - Rock Band or Guitar Hero? Is the 7 year old still too young for the songs on either sets?

Looks like guitar hero is $119 and Rock Band is $139? Do they come with all the same instruments? Could 4 people play with both set?

I don't really know anything about either of them.

Check out the songs and see if you are ok with the lyrics for your children. My kids say that they like Guitar Hero better and they have both. A bundle pack comes with a guitar, drum set, and mic for both of them. You would have to buy an extra guitar to play bass for four of you to play. It is a LOT of fun. And, it is quite humorous (the singing in particular by some people). My kids say that the reason Rockband is cheaper is because it has been out longer not because of any lesser quality. They also say there is a new game coming out called, "Band Hero" which is more family oriented as far as lyrics go. It is made by the same people as Guitar Hero. Have fun!

We have both GH and RB and we only play RB with the kids. Mine that play are younger, 8 & 6, and my 4.5 y/o plays with her own drums and mic vs ones from the actual game. We much prefer RB because it has a no fail option when the younger ones play, so this way if they screw up a bit the game still goes on and you don't get "boo'd" off stage mid song. We're actually eagerly awaiting Lego Rockband which is due out Nov 3rd which also has more child friendly songs & lyrics.

I must admit though, I always chuckle when we do fail out and in the game the cops come and arrest our lead singer and toss him in the back of the cruiser and drive away. We tell my middle guy (who is our singer in the band) if he's not careful it will be him for real.

Rock band is coming out with a Lego version in Nov. Kid friendly songs, an easy mode where all you have to do is be on beat, doesn't matter what guitar color you hit or which drum pad. And of course the whole Lego theme. Biggest problem is it is just a game no bundle as far as we have read. We are considering for DS (turning 7). I've seen the original RB as low as $89.99.

Not exactly sure, but I do know you can not play a Wii game in an Xbox, vice versa. I do believe the instruments are interchangeable. We are looking to buy the Lego rock band, and then the instruments separate. The best rated average priced guitar was marketed for Guitar hero, but works with both. Basically I think the instruments plug in USB ports.

Make sure that you are looking at the Wii chart, because the instruments aren't as compatable on the Wii as the are on the 360 and PS3.

If you want all the instruments, the Guitar Hero:World Tour and Guitar Hero 5 games are your GH options. The other GH games only use guitar. Rock Band, Rock band 2, Beatles Rock Band and the upcoming Lego Rock Band use all the instruments. The lyrics in RB, RB2, and the Guitar Hero games might be questionable for some kids - it just depends on what you are comfortable with.
