Two girls at work recently gotten into a disagreement over this(nursing station on night shift) I guess I never really thougth about it before they were disagreeing.
Ok one girl is saying that if you yawn, you cover your mouth and then say excuse me
the other girl says that you should cover your mouth while yawning and not say anything
I really never have thought of it before and this squabble has them taking polls as to what is the proper etiquette, LOL
As for me, I always cover mouth while yawning though do not say excuse me. I work the night shift and probably yawn a lot.
So which is the proper etiquette?

I was taught to cover my mouth, and if we were in a conversation and the yawn sort of interrupts I'd say excuse me, but otherwise, no. However, I am not a loud yawner. ;) I would think you cover the mouth for the sake of anyone looking, but saying "excuse me" is only necessary if the yawn was loud enough people heard it. :p

I don't say excuse me for the most part. I only notice people saying excuse me once in a while. Not often.

I was reading this and kept yawning :rotfl2:

Anyway, I always cover my mouth and sometimes I do excuse myself but not all the time, it really depends on the situation. I don't plan to say excuse me or not I guess sometimes I just automatically say it when the occasion arises (like maybe just having a coffee with just one other friend and they are telling a story and I yawn :lmao: I may excuse myself so they don't think I am yawining because their story is boring, but maybe at the movies I wouldn't)

It doesn't bother me if somebody does or does not excuse themselves. Now I must move away from this thread, I just can't stop yawning talking about it :lmao: how weird!

If the yawn interupupts something or someone, excuse yourself. If it does not, don't cause further interuption by stopping the conversation to excuse yourself.
