My DD will not be able to go to Disney World with us this October so I want to take her on a short vacation for her 15th birthday this August. We live in NJ and I'm not sure where I would take a teen on vacation...just her and I AND maybe one of her friends. I need ideas. Thanks!

Being relatively close, you may have already done this in the past but Washington DC is awesome...the history, the museums (most of which are free :thumbsup2)...and if you do, DO NOT MISS the DC by Foot tour...it's a walking tour that starts at the Washington Memorial.

DC (see the sites)? New York City (sites, Broadway, shopping)? Maybe a cruise? I went on my first (and currently only) cruise at 14 (though I'm guy, not a girl), and loved it.

My 15 year old dd loves going into NYC. Or what about HersheyPark??

If she has any interest in history, Williamsburg is good. Plus you could hit the outlets, Busch Gardens and maybe stay a night at Great Wolf Lodge...

For a mother and daughter trip I think NYC would be fun! Stay in a fancy hotel (or as fancy as the budget allows for), go see a show, and of course shopping!

I've also always wanted to take my kids to a guest ranch, but am waiting until they are older. I know that's probably not something all teens would consider good times though.

There is also Smugglers Notch in VT.

Why not back to WDW? My DD wants her 16th BDay celebration there. Lots of fun things to do with that age!
Shopping at DTD, LaNouba, Tea at the GF, the spas, nice restaurants, etc.!

If you're looking for something semi-close-- how about Virgina? You could hit up the beach, Colonial Williamsburg (a girlfriend and I went when we were 19 and did a night "ghost tour"-- so cool!), Busch Gardens. BG is AMAZING-- beautiful, clean, great rides/atmosphere.

Take her to Universal! Theme parks but much more fun for a tween or teen. Stay onsite and have FOTL access. And most importantly with a teen -- you can sleep in and arrive whenever you want and still be able to get right on the rides since you will have FOTL. Best of all -- you really only need 3 days onsite to do pretty much everything you'll want to!
