...other than WDW and FW for vacation ?? I know several regulars here live in FL and I was wondering if you like to camp away from home in the summer to get some cooler, fresh air ?? Any of you come all the way up to Michigan ??

other than WDW and FW?????????

We have been to Savannah, Key West, and the Bahamas. Not camping though. I'm kind of snobby when it comes to camping. I have to have hot showers, flushing toilets and toilet paper 24/7 (and of course electricity so I can use my curling iron)

I don't camp in other places as much as I used to do when I was younger, but I've camped all over the US, out west being my favorite. As for vacations, it's been a while since I've traveled in the US outside of Florida, I really need to stop planning all these Disney trips...lol.

We like to cruise. Living in FL makes it real easy to drive to the port and take a cruise! :)

since we take so many mini vacations to FW, we don't take a lot of other vacations. Last year we went to Cancun for a week, this year we are hoping to take a Disney cruise. We do go to Michigan, but not to camp.. to visit family!! DH and I might be going to vegas in Dec. But we have 4 FW trips planned this year for a total of 15 nights still in 2007. And I am also a camping snob... I will camp other places but majority of the time it is a FW!!!

Let's see during the past year, we've made several shorter trips - 1 to Georgia, 1 to Lake Eufalua in Alabama, and several (about 6) to the Choctawhatchee Bay. We go to a military campground at the Bay and it's one of our favorite camping spots.:goodvibes

We are headed back to Ft. Wilderness :woohoo: later this week and Washington D.C. (although not camping) in June.

Would love to see some of the country up north, but as far as needing cooler weather - no way. I am truly a Florida Native (for at least 3 generations before me)!! Love summer, love the beach! Course - maybe that's partly because I'm a teacher, so I love the off-work time too.:woohoo:

every year in January my gf and I go to the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona sports car race, and we also go down to Miami every year to watch Hurricane and Dolphins games. Other than that we spend our weekends racing at short tracks across Florida

As a kid we use to camp up North. All my camping recently have been either here locally or Disney. Theres a campground about 45 minutes from here that allows you to take your horses and its on a very cold water river. So thats my get away.

We love to camp at FW the Most, but Wendsday we are leaving for a 2 month road trip. Stopping for about a month in DC where we stay at a very nice campground in College park. Then we are off to Pa for a couple weeks and then to Kentucky for a couple weeks. We also love to cruise (we became addicted on our first Disney Cruise). It is nice once in a while to get out of Florida and go North to see the mountains and greenery.

There are other places to go besides Disney themed attractions?

hmm that is what that big Spiderman sign is all about when you pass Universal!!!

I was for sure alll we had was Disney and the DCL..:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

We usually stay in Florida, lots of places to go including state parks, we've been to Wakiwa Springs just north of Orlando, St Augustine, Daytona, Sebastian Inlet, and of course the Keys, have not yet been but want to visit the panhandle, we also head to Atlanta ever year for the NASCAR race in October. We are in the early planning stages for a trip to Michigan in Spring/Summer 2008, my niece and nephews have never been out of state (out of country once) and we want to show them where we grew up, hope to visit some of the state parks on lake Michigan including Ludington and possibly Mackinaw Island, we will most likely rent a motorhome for that trip.

(we became addicted on our first Disney Cruise)

this is the case with us as well, I'm heading out on Sunday on the Caribbean Princess for 7 night western Caribbean, can't wait, the service was so spectacular on Disney I hope Princess service is just as good.

This thread makes me realize we got a lot of use from our campers. I originally bought the 04 Tailgator to go to Ocala Nat'l Forest to ride 4 wheelers. I took it to FW (big mistake as it's addicting) and to some races in Daytona, Lowes and Atlanta. I will say that after taking my camper to a race and having food, shower and a clean potty I will never attend a race unless my camper is hooked up lol. I also did the FL Keys trip in 05 for mini lobster season (another big mistake as you have thousands of people looking for bugs lol) The trip was nice but all the places we went to were crowded. Being a single dad of a 9 y/o it is nice having the bathroom. Whenever she needs to go we just pull over. No dirty bathrooms or having to stand outside the ladies room.

My DD also shows horses and I've used the camper to stay at the shows for the weekends as most showgrounds have hookups. It used to cost around $125 a night for a hotel and had to eat out all meals and drive back and forth. Most places charge $20-25. I guess if this was a contest on who get's the most use from their camper I win lol. Just kidding but when I make plans I think how can we do it using the camper. As far as coming up north Shannone we've only made it as far as Atlanta for the race and this place called Durhamtown which is a 8,500 acre atv trail facility. I do want to see the Indy track one day so maybe we will make it up. I just got the new 31' 5'er toy hauler last week so I'm sure some new trips are a comin.

We head for Oregon and Washington States every summer (July or October) to visit my family who all live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. We save WDW for early December or January when the weather is cooler and the crowds are lighter. I don't know how I ended up living in Florida - I can't stand the heat!

We are spoiled too and would take our motorhome over just about any hotel room. It is so convienant and I love knowing it is clean !! We did a cruise once and it was wonderful !! But at this point with 3 younger kids, we won't be cruising again for awhile. I like traveling too much !!

I started this post because most of the campers I know in this state travel to other states as well as camp locally. Especially over the winter when it is too cold here to camp. They turn off the water at most campgrounds here from end of October- April. Makes it much less convienant even if you don't mind the cold weather !! It made me curious about how people in other states camp.

You sound like me, lol !! I want to go to the Pacific Northwest one day too !! How long do you take for a trip like that....and how many days do you take to get there ?? My goal is to go to at least one brand new place each year. This year is was FW and soon Mount Rushmore. Next year we are hoping for either the Grand Canyon or the New England States, just haven't decided yet. I also can't wait to get back to FW !!

I just came back from Europe (London/Paris, though I only have Paris pics up now):

with a day in Disneyland Paris:

We also visited San Francisco/San Jose in January to see family, and I am going to a wedding (my sisters) in California in July - seeing Disneyland and maybe the Reagan Library and such too. I need more Europe, though. :)

It's actually quite nice living in the Orlando area, I can see Disney AND travel elsewhere!

Right now my family just began a month long out west trip. We are in Texas at the moment. We doing the big out-west-loop :goodvibes

Besides that, we go to the Keys for the whole month of July (lobster season) in the coach :thumbsup2

We going skiing in Colorado every other December by plane

We go to Ocala National Forest for ATV'ing :yay:

We usually go to Captiva for spring break (by boat)

We bring the Coach to UF and UCF games for a big tail-gate! :woohoo:

I live in orlando because I go to UCF so I go to IOA and US a lot!

and then in between we go to the fort, our next fort trip is for Thanksgiving

Question! Who here has done the out-west-loop? We are n day 3! 28 more days left!

We go to Captiva for about a week every summer. Actually, we go to Sanibel, but basically that whole area. Love that area, very quiet and laid back, good food, great fishing, tons of fun. Actually, when we were there last year it was the Saturday that the Crocodile Hunter was killed. Everyone on the island was talking about it, it was crazy, every restaurant, bar, beach chair, all people were talking about was the Crocodile Hunter.

I swear I must have heard "Crikey" about 1000 times that weekend!
