Inspired by the what to get a 3 year old thread. I see lots of little boys were obsessed with Thomas.

One of my three sons seems to go from obsession to obsession. Each one lasts about a year.

The first obsession was Nemo. He was 2 going on 3 and learned to spell Nemo out loud before he could spell his own name. He would find the video to put in the vcr, even if it wasn't in it's clamshell. DH and I would laugh and swear he could read.

When he was about 4 the obsession was Toy Story. He liked Woody and his twin loved Buzz. We got them those characters for Halloween costumes and they wore them every single day for almost a year. Those costumes could have stood up by themselves!

At age 5 the obsession was briefly Hercules and then we moved on to Lions. It started out with just the Lion King, but then it moved onto all large cats. He started a stuffed lion collection. We sent him to zoo camp that year and he learned the names of animals in the cat family. He could rattle off a list of large cats that I've never heard of before. And of course, he had to be a realistic looking lion for halloween. I had to search ebay for a realistic lion costume in his size.

Now, at age 7, the current obsession is split two ways between Ben 10 and Spiderman 3. He has literally every Ben 10 toy ever produced...with a few new ones under the tree on Christmas. He's also working on collecting all the new Spiderman 3 figures.

It's funny that he's so passionate about his likes. His two brothers only show a casual interest in any character, but my "obsessed" one goes bananas about things.

My DS10 is similar. It kind of worries me. He started with Thomas when he was 2. There was the Rescue Heroes obsession, baseball cards, football cards, and more. Currently it is Tech Decks. He is also sports obsessed since age 3. That moves back and forth, depending on the season. Either baseball or soccer.

My oldest has never really had an obsession. I was always hoping she would but she never did, or so I thought. I looked around one day and realized that books were her obsession even at 3-4 years old we had hundreds of books and she read them all (yes, she read them) and she couldn't bear to part with any of them. At 7 that is still her only true love.

My son started w/Buzz Lightyear at 3, then it was Star Wars. He still loves the video game, but doesn't play with any of the toys. Now, at 5, it's Power Rangers. I don't know what it is, but he loves them. He isn't allowed to watch the movies, he doesn't have any of the toys but I did get him some PR clothes for back to school along w/a PR backpack and lunchbox. He sees PR stuff in the store and goes crazy.

DS11 is obsessed with ToonTown. He only plays the free version, but has asked for a subscription so he can play all the games. I'm not sure it's a good idea because he's always on the computer and it's a fight to get him off of it.

DD11 is also one obsessed with books, she will read anything she can get her hands on.

DS10 is into sports, especially baseball and bowling. He walks around the house "air bowling" all the time.

DS8 is the one who really gets obsessed. It started with batman when he was two and that moved to superheroes in general. It got to where I would lay out a handkerchief (he wore as a cape) every day with his clothes, he even had a Mickey one to where when we went to WDW. He grew out of that in kindergarten when I wouldn't let him where a cape to school. Then it was Buzz, then Star Wars. But right now there isn't one thing that is holding his interest like that.

DS6 is obsessed with video games, I hate it. My kids are limited on their video game time and he throws a tantrum every time his turn is over or I tell him no. I've even grounded him from them for the tantrums and it hasn't worked. He will go outside and play, especially when his friends are out, but he prefers games.

DS3 loves Mickey Mouse, bowling, and pretty much anything that his Daddy does which means right now doing push-ups because he saw soldiers (like Daddy) on tv doing them, he's good at them too, lol.

My oldest, now 18, was enthralled and adored the Power Rangers from about 5-9. The middle, now 14, was a huge Barney lover from 2-4 and the youngest, now 11, loved Blue's Clues between 2 and 4. I soooo miss the toy days. Shopping is so much harder (and more expensive) now. They're very particular about how they dress and while some AE and Hollister is good, some is crap, lol. It would be easier to buy a gift card although they're not much fun to open xmas morning.

DS9 at:
2yo - Thomas
3yo - Buzz Lightyear
4 & 5yo - Power Rangers
6yo-present - Yu-Gi-Oh cards!!

DD13 (here's what I can remember) at:
1 & 2yo - Barney
3yo - Annie & Winnie the Pooh
4yo - The Wizard of Oz

That's all I can remember about her obsessions!!

My son loves cars, HotWheels, Matchbox whatever-he's 6, he's been playing with them since he was 2, I guess.
He has grown up getting anything firefighter related because Daddy's a fire man, he's into that still.
His major obsession is Star Wars, he's been all over Star Wars for over 2 years now, he's asked again and again for me to make him a Star wars room, and I thought it would pass, but it hasn;t so he got his Star Wars room this summer.
Star Wars has led into Legos.
First he wanted the Lego Star Wars ships, then the Lego City fire, and now it's any Lego, but mainly Star Wars and Lego City.
He still likes Power Rangers and has for years, he tends to stick with things I guess.

DD doesn't have any obsessions really, she has liked/likes, Princesses, Barbies, Polly Pockets, American Girl.

Oh! and both of them were in on the Webkinz craze (they got their first ones last Christmas and now they have 13 each).

My oldest definately went through a Barney phase around age two. The real obsession was with Santa around age 3 though. For about a year, he WAS Santa and corrected you if you called him by his real name - especially if he was wearing his red sweat suit, which was often! Even in the summer, he wanted to wear his sweat suit and his rain boots. From about 1st - 3rd grade he was totally obsessed with Pokemon cards.

My younger son goes thought periods of interest in things, but isn't really obsessive like my older son was.

My son who is 7 now:

Rugrats - around 3-4.
Toy Story and Buzz especially: 3-6
Now: Pokemon and video games

My daughter who is 3:
Cinderella/Princesses
Monsters Inc

I forgot (how could I?) - for tha last year or so, my son has also been obsessed with Disney in general - in terms of the imagineering, reading books about it, watching Travel channel shows, etc. I enjoy that obsession!

He also has a strange affinity for cooking channel shows - he says Emeril is his hero.

I think maybe he is odd. Lol

My almost 2 1/2 yo is all about Disney Pixars Cars these days - the movies, the toys and any CARS books. He plays with his die cast cars and Mack truck all the time and even reenact parts of the movie...like when McQueen falls out of Mack and starts looking for him..."Mac...where are you?"...loves his CARS books!

My dd who will be 4 1/2 in a few months is all about the princesses right now...her favorite is sleeping beauty!

My 4-yo is obsessed with Cars.....everything Cars.

The 7-yo doesn't really have any obsessions, his Game Boy would be, but I don't let it.

We're also obsessed w/ books at our house.... also can't bear to part w/ any of them, even the board books (YIKES!). I think I started that, though since I encourage book-buying (at garage sales and thrift stores where we get them for so cheap). Other than that, we haven't had any long-lasting obsessions.... more than a few weeks or a month anyways.

DS 3 is obsessed with keys. All keys, any keys and will take them and hide them. He will cry like his heart is breaking when you find them and take them back. ( He does have his own keys, but always wants more) He also loves Bungee cords.

:lmao: OMG - my kids do too! We have a mess of them and my kids always steal them to "play" with - drives me nuts!!!

When DS was around 3 it was Star Wars (thats how we ended up potty training him....nothing else had worked and DH got a big box of carded Star wars men at an auction. DS really wanted those men so I hung them up where he could see them and every 3 days that he used the potty every time, he got to pick one. And he was trained in a week, made me wonder what the heck was so hard about it to begin with).

DS is now almost 7 and has been crazy about pirates for the past 3 or 4 years, was a pirate for halloween for 3 years and at parent conference at school his teacher commented on his love of pirates. Everything he draws has a hook, pegleg and eyepatch. He even wanted a hook and pegleg for xmas the other year and we had to explain that you had to lose those body parts to get that stuff.

He also has a thing for Mummy's, watches mummy movies (even had me track down a lego mummy online since they are no longer made, he calls it cleopatra though I think its a man) and he wants to go to the local museum for his bday to see the mummy that they have there.

DD 3's first obsession was the movie Cars and anything "Li-Queen." since she was barely talking when the obsession began. Cars may still be her #1, but Transformers are up there too. Any toy, show, song, color book, regular book, sticker, bag, anything branded with Cars is "her favorite."

And she loves watching the Star Wars movies & Spiderman too.

Do you think I have a tomboy on my hands?

My oldest dd was obsessed with Scooby Doo when she was 2. She had her 'puppy' with her at all times. Then it followed her in to her tweens, she loves the movies. My son has only had a few obsessions (#48 Nascar, Spongebob when he was younger and Lego's). He's currently still in to Lego's.

When DS was 1 yr old, he was obsessed with the Baby Songs and Barney videos. That's all he ever wanted to do was watch those videos.

At age 3 it was Spiderman -- big time! That lasted until he was almost 6.

At age 6 he was into Star Wars -- He knew every character and all of the movie plots. He'd play with his action figures and ships non-stop.

At age 7, still way into Star Wars but mainly the Storm Trooper type of guys. He has quite a collection.

Now at age 8, I'd say he's still into Star Wars, but his interest is not quite as strong. I think now he's beginning to love music -- the 80s rock-n-roll like AC/DC. He really wants Guitar Hero for Christmas this year. That is his big want! We bought a Wii but he doesn't know it yet (we've never had a gaming system in the house besides PC games.) He'll be so excited.

Oh, he's always been into knives -- We always had to hide the knives in the house since he could walk. When there's a man at Sam's club giving a demo on the super duper knives, he always drags me over to watch the demo. He loves seeing the guy cut a steel hammer with a kitchen knife. When I cook he always asks if he can help me cut up stuff and peel potatoes. He just likes to cut up things -- thinks it's cool. Of course we don't let him play with knives, but there were times when he'd find one and I'd find arms or legs sawed off of McDonald's toys. He's in Cub Scouts now and has earned his whittling badge (has now been through the safety training). He's really hoping for his first camping knife for Christmas.
