OT: What were your kid's obsessions?

I guess I have really focused kids!

DD Power Rangers then
Harry Potter from 2nd gr to now (and she is 18)

DS Star Wars since 2 and he is almost 12.

Star Wars obsession has been going strong with my kids from about age 2 to ages almost 23 and 19.

DS23 loved Sharon, Lois, and Bram from when he was a baby until he was about 4. He was really into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Bunga Bunga Dude! He couldn't say Cowabunga at 3. It was so cute. ) from about 2 until 8.
Power Rangers was big through third grade. The White Ranger (Tommy) was his favorite.
Legos.
Planes
Lord of the Rings

DD19 was into Barney (shudder!), but stopped liking it when Baby Bop got more prominent thank goodness.
She was a big fan of Kimberly on Power Rangers.
Legos
Decorating and Travel shows on TV. She became our tour guide on so many trips. At 11, she showed us the best sites of Vegas.
And of course, LOTR.

LOTR and Star Wars will be life-long obsessions for them, but I can't blame them. Both parents are LOTR and SW geeks too, so it's a hereditary condition.

DD does this....
Up until she was 2 it was Sesame St.
When she was about 2 it was Cars and Thomas (yes a little tomboy).
3 it was Lilo and Stitch (my favorite obsession!!!) and she really enjoyed Bug's Life for a while.
She also began to dig Snoopy and she's 5 now and still is into Snoopy, she has a snoopy doll that for that past 2 Disney trips she carried around, this thing needs to get into the wash machine!
Now its American Girl dolls!!!!

DD8 is into Barbies. It used to be Care Bears. Both girls are way into Build A Bear now. Nothing real unusual.

DD11 got obsessed with some movies in her younger years, most notably Bug's Life and Chicken Run. She had a hat that she thought was like Ginger the Chicken's and wore it till I hid it. She still takes her big stuffed Clifford everywhere we go (stays in the vehicle at least). She wears denim bib overalls and a certain cat shirt as often as possible, and is totally into Lewis & Clark.

She wants to marry someone with the last name Clark so she can name her son Will Clark. DD8 said, "What if you marry someone with the last name Clark. And his first name is Lewis...and is middle name is And?" It cracked us all up!

My DS now 9 was obsessed with particular movies when he was little. He would become fixated on one and we would have to watch it EVERY night. The movie that lasted the longest was...get ready... DANCES WITH WOLVES! Yes, my 2 year old watched that movie every night for approximately 2 months! Thank goodness for Lady and the Tramp that saved us!:rotfl:

My DD 3 has been with obessed with spongebob for about a year now and I am wondering if it will ever fade. She quotes lines from the show and we have just about every DVD she cant read but when it shows the title she can tell you which episode it is and what happens in it. I can barely get her to sit still for any other movie.....not interested at all in Little Mermaid but now is starting to like Bolt....but seriously it is rare that she picks anything other than spongebob to watch...Im thinking lord I know we have seen every episode how can it be interesting anymore? I think something on there brainwashes them.....and guess week all this week at 5pm new Spongebobs....someone please reassure this too shall pass.....:rotfl2:

All 3 of my kids have "liked" things, only 1 was "obsessed". My now 7 yo was obsessed with the Wiggles from age 2-5. He HAD to wear a yellow Greg shirt EVERY day for about 1.5 years. I ended up ironing on the logo to yellow t-shirts, tutlenecks and sweatshirts!

Haha... this is how you know I have a weirdo kid. It's the Alphabet and numbers 1-20. She's saying the alphabet and numbers whenever she feels like it, and then if she sees a certain letter or number she just calls it out. Oh and we have to go over her letters every day, lol. I don't know if it's necessarily an "obsession" but it's definitely her thing right now.

My 5 year old has been this way with counting since he learned his numbers, he counts EVERYTHING, he likes to line things up and counts them, loves watching the timer on the oven or microwave count down, anything with numbers.

My DS that is almost 11 now used to be obsessed with superheroes, especially Batman. He would use handkerchiefs as capes and would wear one every day. It got so I would lay one out with his clothes each night before bed for him to wear the next day. He even had a Mickey one he wore to WDW. When he was hospitalized at 2 years old he would wear his capes and the nurses would ask him who he was so he made up "Strongman". I was sad when he gave them up when he was about 5.

My oldest son was obsessed with Pokemon when he was little. Then as a teenager it was paintball. Luckily, he seems to be outgrowing this and realizing there is more to life!

My middle son wore his batman outfit just about everyday as a preschooler! Now it's snowboarding and we don't live near any mountains!

Youngest son's obsession was video games...wait, still is! Can they be a college major?:lmao:

My daughter LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Bolt the dog. Has carried that stuffed animal around for almost 2 years, writes stories about him, watches Bolt videos on utube, etc...!

Inspired by the what to get a 3 year old thread. I see lots of little boys were obsessed with Thomas.

One of my three sons seems to go from obsession to obsession. Each one lasts about a year.

The first obsession was Nemo. He was 2 going on 3 and learned to spell Nemo out loud before he could spell his own name. He would find the video to put in the vcr, even if it wasn't in it's clamshell. DH and I would laugh and swear he could read.

When he was about 4 the obsession was Toy Story. He liked Woody and his twin loved Buzz. We got them those characters for Halloween costumes and they wore them every single day for almost a year. Those costumes could have stood up by themselves!

At age 5 the obsession was briefly Hercules and then we moved on to Lions. It started out with just the Lion King, but then it moved onto all large cats. He started a stuffed lion collection. We sent him to zoo camp that year and he learned the names of animals in the cat family. He could rattle off a list of large cats that I've never heard of before. And of course, he had to be a realistic looking lion for halloween. I had to search ebay for a realistic lion costume in his size.

Now, at age 7, the current obsession is split two ways between Ben 10 and Spiderman 3. He has literally every Ben 10 toy ever produced...with a few new ones under the tree on Christmas. He's also working on collecting all the new Spiderman 3 figures.

It's funny that he's so passionate about his likes. His two brothers only show a casual interest in any character, but my "obsessed" one goes bananas about things.

It's funny this thread got bumped up. Two years after I posted it, my one obsessed son is now 9 and a half and currently obsessed with electric guitars. He's taking lessons and all he thinks about is buying another amp or guitar. He doodles pictures of them, watches Youtube tutorials, and would spend every Saturday browsing in Guitar Center if I let him.

My oldest is addicted to the xbox. The young ones are/were obsessed with my little pony, bratz, then spongebob ( i cant tell u how many times ive watched the movie), monsters inc, and now naruto..

Ha- my brother at age 12 read guitar parts catalogs and followed my mom around the house spouting off about guitars. Definitely obsessed! Well, last year at age 46 he quit his 20+ year office machines career and went full-time guitars...he gives lessons, builds customs, sells parts on eBay, and gives Guitar Building 101 classes. It's so cool that he could make his passion (obsession) his life's work!

DS 2.9 years old is OBSESSED with Peter Pan and anything related! He loves all the characters and plays Peter Pan/Captain Hook sword fight all day long. He's too funny.

DD 2.9 years old is obessed with Peter Pan and Wendy. She loves to pretend she's Wendy. Also loves all princesses, especially Cinderella.

They both also Love Handy Manny!

Sheesh, how could I forget my DD8's obsession with High School Musical! I was putting her to bed last night and looking at the posters in her room thinking, hello, HSM has been her obsession for 2 years! Not to mention the fact that last night while we were at BJ's she says to me, mom you know that movie 17 Again (which she hasn't seen since it's PG13), well the guy from Friends turns into Troy Bolton. Made me laugh cause she calls him Troy Bolton. I know she knows he's Zac Efron, but I love how she doesn't call him that.

My youngest DS5 is obsessed with animals. He has been since he was two. And while he has his favorites, hippos and elephants, he loves to learn about all of them. We have encouraged his obsession because he has learned a lot about geography and science through it because he knows about what type of habitats they live in, the way they hunt or hide, and where they live at on a map.
