Ot What do you feed your 11 month old?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm always hesitant to start table foods due to choking. I guess it's a phobia of mine. I gave him pasta the other night and smashed it so much my DH thought it would disappear! He does have a lot of teeth so I have to start worrying less. Tonight we're having breaded chicken cutlets rice and broccoli. I'll try some of that or if Im not brave enought to do whole meat, I'll make some pastina.
Rice and soft pieces of veg should be fine. After all, your mini me has more teeth than mine... :goodvibes

DD will be one next month....she pretty much eats everything we do except for seafood, peanuts, popcorn and chocolate.
She's had most all fruits, most all meats, veggies, etc....

You can put your table food in a blender or food processer for larger texture & feed it to your baby. I agree use whole, fresh, hormone free meat & vegtables when ever possibel. Do not buy anything with MSG in it. Bullion cubes ect. If you have a Traders Joe near you shop there. Its cheaper than reg stores & the food is safe.

I just remembered something else he loved - black beans. I think it sounds so gross (I dont like beans) but he would eat them all the time! A good friend's son does the same thing.
They are real easy to semi-mash with a fork if you are worrried about choking.

If you are worried about chocking due to lack of teeth, Babies are Us sells a gadget, I forget what it is called. Looks like a pacifer bottom with a screw off top that is covered in a type of netting. You put the food inside and the child chews on it without allowing any large pieces to come through. I know I am not explaining it very well, but it worked great, especially when the kids were teething. We froze small bits of fruit and put them in the feeder. The kids loved them and it helped with their irritated gums.
It was invented by a man who's child had chocked on a piece of food. Maybe someone out there knows what it is called. It cost about $4.00 and when you fill it with food it kinda looks like a popsicle. It is a pain to clean, but my grandkids and nieces and nephews all loved it.

Grammyof2 that sounds so cool! Thank you I have to get that for my DGD 6 months old.

I dont remember what it is called either, but it does work good. A friend of ours used it all the time for grapes, as her ds LOVED the taste of them but of course they are totally choking hazards.

I was going nuts trying to think of what the feeder was called ....so it it made by one step ahead and is called the baby safe feeder.

I have a question. What kind of yogurt are you feeding your under ones? I am confused because my older child got the YoBaby yogurts with whole milk after one. But should I go Soy for my 11 month old? Or do you use whole milk yogurt? My guy really wants whatever we are eating-he only has 4 teeth so that is a problem. Generall he eats a mashed up version of what we are eating- like sweetpotato or peas.. just put it through the food mill. He loves to chew on a hard bagel. Not much nutrition there though. I just started with the pastina and he loves that. but in very small spoonfulls. He hates that food thing that they are talking about- he usually drops it as soon as I give it to him- then you have to start from scratch again because it gets gross fast. And he wants more in his mouth than he is getting from that thing. The thing I worry about is protein- I hate beans but I guess I am going to have to bite the bullet and try working some beans into our diet(I am married to a hispanic he would be in heaven if I started making some red beans and rice)

JAVA, I am in the same boat as you! my dd is 12 months and only has 2 teeth and gags on anything and everything that isn't texture free! she has even thrown up when she swallows some chunkier foods.

my doctor says it doesn't matter how many teeth she has, she needs to chew with her gums and work her jaw muscles now! I feel like I am at a loss as to what to give her.

she loves gerber fruit/veggie puffs, just started accepting cheerios, and 1/2 sugar fruit loops this week. I made her scrambled eggs yesterday and mixed it with baby food squash and you would think I was trying to feed her razor blades! The same reaction this morning with oatmeal!

I think the noodle soup is a good idea, for the noodle rings cooked very small, maybe she'll think it is a cheerio!

I know it is frustrating, but stay positive, they have to eat eventually! One meal at a time is where I am, one meal at a time!!

good luck!

My DD is turning one next Tuesday and while she has 6 teeth she mostly uses her gums and she has been on table food for probably close to 2 months now. She started rejecting the strained stuff and was trying to attack us to get food off our plate. Here are some of the things off the top of my head that DD has eaten this past month or so:

Pasta with and without sauce
Muffins
Toast with a just little bit of jelly (she loves this)
Waffles - no syrump
Cheerios or Rice Chex
Banana Bread
Canned/Fresh/Frozen Veggies (corn, carrots, green beans, squash, sweet potato, etc.)
Fresh/Canned/Jar Fruit (bananas, peaches, pears, mandarin oranges, pineapple, etc.)
Gerber meat sticks
Gerber raviolis (especially the chicken and carrot ones)
Turkey, Ham, Lean Hamburger, Pot Roast
Potatoes (baked and mashed)
Stuffing
Cottage Cheese
Cheddar Cheese cubes (very small pieces - a pizza cutter is great for cutting small pieces of foods)
Soups made thicker so she can eat it herself
Saltine Crackers
Nutri-grain bars
Oatmeal
Rice

I know she eats lots of other stuff as well. We just cut everything up pretty small and she has done wonderfully. It seems really important to her to eat what the rest of the family eats. If she has something different she just tries to get to our plates. ;)

My DS is just over a year old. He does not do well on regular foods yet, very strong gag reflex. We got a veggie steamer years ago - I use it a bunch. I let his stuff go about 5 mintues longer than I do ours. I don't mash it, as he has a hard time handling it, but I cut the well steamed stuff into small cubes:

apples
pears
carrots
cauliflower
sweet potato
squash

If I give him that I can usually sneak in some bites of something stage 2 with protein in it (Carrots and beef, apples and chicken) and he does great as long as he still has his finger foods. It also seems to help if he gets to hold the spoon and I help it get into the jar and then he puts it in his mouth. You can thicken this up with some rice cereal to make it easier too. It doesn't seem to add any flavor, just makes it thicker for bites!

As his gag reflex lessens I'll add things like mandarin oranges, slightly bigger pieces of noodles, rice, etc.

My son is 11 mos old today (!) and just really turned picky almost overnight. We can't get him to eat any fruit other than bananas and no veggies. We mostly give him jarred veggies and fruits first b4 all other foods and it isn't easy to get him to eat them. However, it's the only way he will eat them. He does do tater tots (baked) and other various forms of potato but not as healthy as some of the other veggies.

We found he likes the Chef Boy R De (sp?) ravioli. I cut them in 4's and he loves them. LOVES cheese and the new cheese crumbles for salads (found with shredded cheese) is the perfect size for him to munch on. Loves wheat bread torn up. He loves his dairy - cottage cheese, yogurt etc.

I am also struggling with finding a good balance of things for him to eat that he actually WILL eat.

Thanks all - found this thread interesting and helpful!
