I found this map very amusing and enlightening and thought I would share.

Interesting. I call it 'pop'. On the map, my county is mainly 'soda' but it's right on the edge of 'pop' counties. Pretty accurate.

They definitely have Ohio right. I have never heard anyone from here call it anything other than pop.

That is SO awesome! Can I steal that map to share? I call it "pop" and I'm smack dab in "pop" country! :lmao: Believe it or not though, when I travel, I call it soda often just for those workers I'm ordering from. Weird, I know. ;)

It's soda where I'm from ....and sandwiches are called "Grinders" ...and water fountains are "bubblers"(or "bubblas"). Not sure if there are such maps for those things, but it should narrow my location down a bit.

So your telling me in the south they just use the term coke.. even when refering to Orange Pop or Gingerale?!?

I called it Pop when I lived up North. I call it soda now. I usually always ask for a Diet Coke and then am surprised when I get what I really wanted which is a Diet Pepsi.

We used to call a sub a hoagie in Pgh. but when we went to Mass. and CT it was called a grinder.

I told my kids to "speak" the language when going to places. Once we were at a get together in CT and my daughter asked for a pop and everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her. It was priceless. :)

I have a friend from Arkansas and she calls all beverages Coke. Here in Ohio, I'm right on target and call it pop. My daughters, who now live in Virginia and called it pop all their lives, now call it soda...and laugh at me for calling it pop!

I just had a friend who grew up w/ me here in MN but now lives in TX say that it catches her up all the time in TX. She'll order a Coke and they'll say "what kind?" or they'll ask her if she wants a Coke and she'll say "No, I want a 7Up". They would have gotten to that. LOL Sounds like the Kleenex/Xerox issue to me. :laughing:

Pepsi = Coke
Sprite = Coke
Sarsaparilla = Coke
Club Soda = flavorless Coke

How do they ever get what they want?? :confused:

Love the map. Love how there's not a single spot of anything but 100% soda in New Jersey!! :thumbsup2 No confusion here!

:rotfl2: You must be a RIer:thumbsup2

But my Grandmother who lived near Boston always called it TONIC

I grew up in Michigan and called it "pop." I didn't (and still don't) like carbonated drinks, so I drank very little pop.

I grew up calling it pop (although I had very little of it), my dh from the same area now calls it soda cuz he like the sound of it. :rotfl:
