Dh has a buisness trip to Calgary in May (week after the long weekend) and we have decided that we will all go early on the Friday morning so the kids can see another part of Canada. The kids and I will fly home late on the holiday Monday - leaving me to drive home all by myself from Toronto :scared1:

Travel party will be dh, myself, ds almost 12yo and ds 6 going on 16!!

What are the 'must see's' in Calgary? HAve never visited there before and don't have a clue what to see or do or where is a good place to stay! :confused3

Help me plan please!!

Go to the Calgary Zoo - it's huge and has a great play area for the kids. There is a heritage park as well that my god son loves to go to (cannot remember the name of the park....It is very nice).

I don't live in Calgary, so cannot really help you further, but when we go down, that's what we usually do with the god-kids.

Also, if you are up for a day trip - go to Banff. It is so unbelievably beautiful there and truthfully is well worth the day trip.

yes banff is so close..the scenery is amazing!

we also reallly enjoyed the calgary tower, amazing view and that glass floor is something else!

I'd reccomend a hotel in the downtown area. It's in the middle of town and pretty easy access to other areas of the city. It's pretty busy downtown during work hours but fairly empty on the weekends. Definitely check out the Calgary Zoo, and try the ice cream! I second the motion to check out Banff. There's a gondola you can ride up to the top of a mountain, hot springs and some neat shopping on the main street. Check out the candy stores! You can also do a tour of Canada Olympic Park (COP) where you can take an elevator to the top of the ski jump and this gives you an amazing view of the entire city and the mountains. There's also mini-golf at COP. Eau Claire market could also be a good time. There's a theater there, some touristy type shops, restaurants and a big grassy park near a river inlet, there's usually a lot of ducks and geese there. Oh, and i almost forgot, there's also the Lilac Festival the last weekend of May. They close down a street and a bunch of vendors set up selling junk and stuff. Weather is usually pretty good in May. Hopefully you have a great time here!

Ok looking forward to this now!! so much for my romantic weekend away though

We are thinking of spending one night in Calgary then getting a hotel in Banff for the other 2 nights. Seems like there is so much to see and do there and I would love for the boys to see the mountains!

Anyone have any recommendations on Banff hotels/resorts?

My favourite place to stay is the Falcon crest lodge in Canmore which is about a 10 minute(or less) drive to Banff and closer to Calgary. You can get anything from a standard hotel room to a 2 bedroom suite and the hotel is only one year old. If you go there ask for a mountain facing room. Check out the website at falconcrestlodge.ca
