(BTW) this is costing me less then if i wanted to drive 45 mins from my house and stay at the MGM grand hotel at Foxwoods casino (for one night!).

You'll have a great time! I went with DH for the first time in 2007. He had a conference so it was a free trip and during the day I was on my own so I had plenty of time to explore. We had a lot of fun!

Get a Deuce bus pass - you'll use it a lot!
See the light show at Fremont St. Experience (it's free and pretty fun at night with the street performers and vendors)
M&M World
If you want to see a show definitely go to one of the Tix Tonight places - they usually have discount dinner deals too
The Bellagio dancing waters and Treasure Island pirate show are free to watch from the street
The shops in The Venetian are fun to walk around - feels almost sort of kind of like Venice ;)
Hotels I liked just walking around inside: The Wynn, Paris, Caesar's, Mandalay Bay
The Stratosphere is cool
I really liked Circus Circus - DH thought it would be awful, but we had a fun time watching the trapeze show and they have a small indoor amusement park

Have a blast and a happy birthday!

wow-
thanks for all the details
i am printing off your recomendations and taking them with me

Dh and I mini-mooned there in September (got married in the Mojave desert). You really don't have to spend much at all. Each casino has a theme and usually some sort of free show, the sirens, dancing fountains, bird show, MGM lions.
You do have to spend some money and go to the top of Paris. it is a great view of the city.
if you have never seen a Cirque du soleil you should really see one of the 6 they have there. the grand has their own actually. Tickets aren't cheap though.

We never got on a bus and ended up seeing every hotel on the strip and some of Fremont. It is a lot of walking, but you don't really notice will all there is to take in. We used a cab once (technically twice) to get to Fremont and back.

Ask any questions you want!

I love the Conservatory in the Bellagio - it's a huge room filled with flowers. It's decorated differently every month.

Also, if you stay in the strip area, tuck a $10 back each day - at the end of the day, it is worth it to know you've got the option to just grab a cab back to your hotel! You may not always need it, but if you're down at the other end of the strip, you'll be really glad you've got it!

Oh Jen, you have to go the Treasure Island and stay for the entire show out front - it is incredible to watch. Bring your camera and try to set yourself midway between where the ship of "Sirens" are and the Pirate ship as it moves toward the center. If you have a video camera, charge that battery and be ready for an awesome show!! Have a great time. Caroline

Great way to spend your birthday. Have fun! :goodvibes

wow what great ideas!! i cant wait to see the pirate show and since we are staying at the MGM i heard the lions were great!
we might try to get cheep same day tickets for a show - would love to see a Cirque du soleil show or blue man group and my brother wants to eat at craft (chef tom's resturant from Top chef) -
just going to be fun to get a coffee and people watch.

MGM is a "sister" of TI so if you show your room key you get to enter a "special" viewing area up front.
