So I'm working on my laptop when a screen pops up that LOOKS like when I open "My Computer". It lists a bunch of virueses & says I need to fix/remove them. But every time I click remove, it takes me to a website to buy software to fix it. I googled the site ("Internet Security Suite") & it seems like it is a true product.
I am running my Webroot right now & it has found some spyware, but no viruses yet.
WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON??!!
A while back the Webroot detected a virus & quarentined it. I tried to find out if there was anything else I needed to do, but didn't have much luck. It seemed to be working fine, so I didn't do anything more.
(I am on DH's laptop right now...)
Now I just got a pop up about a "spambot" that infected all these emails I have supposedly gotten...FUNNY none of them look familiar.
I am leaving the screen up that lists the supposed viruses...is that a bad idea??!!
UPDATE:
Webroot found "rouge security" as a high threat...that must be it...but it keeps popping up. HOW do I get rid of it??!!

Only you can open "My Computer" Anything else is a hack or a well-done fake. Anything that tells you to buy its software is a scam.

MalwareBytes is my preferred software for removing this sort of thing. You may want to get SpyBot, MalwareBytes, maybe even CCleaner. Update them all, get completely off the internet, and run a full virusscan, and all the software.

Get a good firewall to help from now on. The Windows one sucks. Comodo is excellent and free.

For more info on this virus, I did a quick google search for you:

If you need more help, I'm happy to help, and best of luck dealing with it! :thumbsup2

Unfortunatly the first prompt to remove seems like a fake dialog put on your computer by a website....

Do you have antivirus Software on the computer? Best thing is dont panic...

Who makes your laptop and does it have valuable data on it?

I agree and use MalwareBytes, also SuperAnti spyware is really good. I downloaded for free online- just search- it has a picture of a "spy" in a hat with a red circle and red line thru it.
Often when I get something funny like this, I search the exact wording it gives, and I usually can find others that have found a good solution, and advise to use.

I tried to uninstall...BUT while it appears on the programs list, when I pull up the "remove/uninstall" list--IT ISN"T THERE!
After some searching I have downloaded TRojan Killer. It caught it immediately (so WHY didn't Webroot??!!) Will email BIL the programmer...have him advise for best plan...
HATE THIS CRAP.
(BTW apparently it is CA Internet Security Suite)

we had this hit both our laptops not long ago as well. For us, getting the computer into safemode was the key and then getting it removed via malware removal on one and then the other was taking it to an earlier restore point and then updating the security software. The Computers have different operating systems, hence the different methods to get rid of the same virus. Good Luck.....this one was annoying to get rid of, but didn't seem to do any damage.

Good Luck.
Val.

It is a nasty one. It's important to have malware killers on hand for this kind of thing and keep them updated, oftentimes regular virusscans can't entirely wipe them out. And if something as simple as "Add/Remove Programs" worked, they wouldn't have a very good bit of code. :rolleyes1

Agree with PP about safe mode. The BIL might be good for this time, and then install preventative measures to prevent a "next time."

Oh my gosh, I just had this exact thing pop up on mine about 15 minutes ago and was complaining to DH that it just annoys me that those things can get into your computer. I'm running my anti-virus software now. I don't understand any of the stuff you guys are saying about malware removal. I'm relatively computer illiterate.

This same thing happened on our computer about 6 months ago. I ran all kinds of spyware and malware scans and I have a firewall installed and it STILL went undetected. I finally had to call my DH's best friend who said it wouldn't damage anything on my hard drive but this type of malware is extremely annoying and will only get worse. I shut it all down and waited for him to come over and fix it because it got to where if I tried to close out the windows that it was popping up to buy their "software", a porn site would pop up......grrrrrrrr

Got this during the summer and it was PAINFUL to remove. Required malware, spybot, and then doing changes to the registry - thank goodness I knew how to do it. Did all kinds of searches and found a site that told me exactly what to do. Malware and Spybot didn't catch it - had to do it manually. Good luck!

Echo what everyone else Malebytes, Sunperantispyware, Avast and good firewall. I would use Hijacked this if know what doing.

Went and doubt google the product and should be instructions on how take it off.

Bear in mind that often trying to remove these trojans is impossible, and you can't ever be sure you got it all.

The absolute BEST defense against a bad trojan invasion is to first make sure you are REGULARLY backing up your data files, and be sure you have recovery discs for your system.

I have had both a laptop and a desktop invaded by trojan viruses and in all honesty it was easier and faster to just re-install the operating system than to try and find all the bits and pieces of it to get rid of it.

Having an external drive with all my data files backed up made the process very simple and took just a couple of hours.
