Can anyone here help me with Spokeo.com. I just found out about this today. I REALLY do not want my pictures, credit score, income, etc. out there for consumption with one click.

I went to their site and pulled up my name...but when I click on my state, nothing happens.

Has anyone successfully removed themselves from this site? If so, can you help me???

Thanks in advance!!!!

It seems as though that site is mostly made up of random info that is public knowledge and total guesses. People have reported that they actual are asking for more info to get off the list and it doesn't really matter, because they don't take you down.

There was another thread about it and people were saying the things posted were so off. Like no kids, wrong amount of people, wrong ethnicity, and according to mine a house price that is at least double what my house may be worth on a very generous day.

Also snopes has some info.

here is a thread from earlier today and there is a link to a thread from a few weeks ago in it. I would also check out the links contained in both threads to get more info. All the info on the site is public info, it can be found elsewhere too.

It says I have two husbands and enjoy gardening. I do clerical work.

I also enjoy reading about politics, but I dislike politics. :rotfl2:

It is so wrong, I'm not worrying about it.

If you read it on snopes, they believe that the site is mainly trying to harvest e-mail addresses, when you try and get something removed or corrected.

I opened up a yahoo email account, deleted myself (following the info on the previous thread). Confirmed the deletion and never plan to use that email again. So, if they are searching for emails, mine is pretty much invalid. All the details were wrong except my name and street, but still, I'd rather those details be a little harder to search for.

what makes you think its "deleted"?

they get all that info from on-line public records and they have no ability to delete or change the information that is being made available to the public.

So, I was reading this thread, kind of fretting about it and went to drop my name in.
Ok, so they have my address, but everything else is so wrong!:lmao: Apparently I did find time to go back to grad school and my house is worth over a million bucks!:lmao: I love travel, gardening, children, and good books. Wonder if I also weigh 125?:rotfl:

Interesting that they show nine people with my first and last name, but I am not listed there (and will not complain to them).

Accoring to them I also live in a house worth over a million! I think I will downsize back to my 3br house and buy 30+ weeks of DVC! :rotfl2:

I don't see myself or my husband listed on there. I think it is so shady that they want an email address in order to have your info deleted!

Bwahaha! I'm listed about 6 times (various addresses), seem to own several expensive houses, and (variously) in my 30s, late 40s and 70s! (and in the one where I'm in my 70s; DH is in his 30s and I have elderly parents)

I'm not too worried about this site....

This is just one of many sites that provide this information. If you are worried about Spokeo, you will be frightened by other sites with more accurate information.

Spokeo is different in that it uses social media sites to try and harvest additional information and make some informed guesses. The guesses are usually wrong.

Yeah, my house is worth over $1M bucks too.. anybody want to buy it, I'll knock a couple thousand off the price... :thumbsup2 I wouldn't worry about the website.

A thought just occurred to me....what were all these $1M houses worth BEFORE the housing price crash?? Gotta be some pretty wealthy people out there! LOL

I just looked my info up and my house in a below average neighborhood is worth over $1 million. That's really funny. If anyone would like to buy a 2 bedroom/1 bath home for that price on a rinky-dinky lot, I'd love to talk to you! I'll be willing to cut you an awesome deal and sell it to you for 50% off! :)

I looked up my info..and I'm not there. But they were pretty accurate for my grandparents and aunts and cousins. It was kinda scarey..it gave their phone numbers and everything. Might have to have them check it out.

I have a million dollar house with no central heat and no central air! Where do they get this info?

Thank goodness, they don't have my DS listed, but ages, address, and phone number are correct for DH and I. Although they have my DH with a college degree, he'll appreciate that.

I checked out my sisters, too. My younger sister will be surprised she's now hispanic, not causasian. My older sister will be mad she's listed as late 60's when she's 63.

My info is sketchy. DH's info is largely accurate, and MUCH more detailed. I have tried REPEATEDLY to get his info removed, using a "fluff" e-mail address that is valid but is NOT our "good" e-mail. Can't get him removed. :headache: Several people on FaceBook have said they were successful in removing their profiles, so I guess it does work sometimes. :confused3

The business about the million-dollar house is a marketing ploy. When they sell their database of email addresses (harvested by posting all this stuff and goading you to reply), the "statistics" for the database will show the people in it as good marketing targets because they are supposedly high-income homeowners.

Don't rise to the bait -- they post bad info randomly to lure you into contacting them to make corrections, and they they have your correct info to sell.
