Is there an amount of time you must work for the company to be eligible to collect. I have been here for 10 months and the company is closing at the end of October so I am being laid off. I live in Massachusetts if that matters.

There is no time requirement in California, you just have had to earn at least 2K or something, it was pretty low. Benefits are calculated on your quarterly earnings from the previous quarter so with 10 months at the job you should be ok.

When I was laid off 7 years ago, (in MA) my compensation was based on my income over the previous 6 years. So, even if you have only been working for this one company for a few months, if you have worked for other ones(and paid into unemployment) that should factor in as well.
