OT--Traveling by Air while on Oxygen

Question for folks on oxygen. We have traveled from Colorado to WDW by car, several times while taking my mom who is on oxygen. She has been nervous about air travel but now loves WDW so much she is willing to give air travel a try.

Can y'all fill me in on the logistics about traveling by air and being on oxygen? I'm hoping it's not quite as complicated as it seems. Thanks!

I looked into it once. As well as I remember it varied by airlines. Some provided the oxygen and some didn't. I would go to the airline you intend to use and look at their policy.

The first thing you must do is check with your airlines "Special Services" desk. It is up to each individual airline as to how it is handled. Then make sure it is in writing and after that make your reservations.

I helped my grandma do this a couple of times, once pre-9/11 and once post 9/11. She was allowed to bring her own oxygen both times, and it cost $75-100 extra each way above the cost of her ticket. I was allowed to help her onto the plane pre 9/11 and had to get special clearance to do it post 9/11. Hope that helps a little--
